Chapter 400 Darling
At the entrance of the research institute.
"We're here; get out of the car." As soon as the car stopped, Victoria hadn't even reacted when she heard Alexander's deep, magnetic, and pleasant voice. But today, that voice seemed a bit off.
She blinked, somewhat stunned and incredulous.
"Darling, are you trying to kick me out of the car?" She asked simultaneously.
Alexander pursed his lips and said, "No."
"But it sure sounds like it to me?" She didn't believe him.
Alexander simply chose not to speak, to avoid making things worse.
She paused for a moment, then leaned forward in front of him. "You're not still jealous, are you?"
She had been with him long enough to understand his sudden temper.
On the way here, she hadn't done anything wrong to upset him, nor had she done anything behind his back. The only thing she did was deal with Sarah's matter, and he had gone with her, so she hadn't acted alone.
She guessed right. "Darling, are you jealous because Sarah called me 'baby'?"
Alexander didn't speak, but his Adam's apple moved.
She understood.
So next, she said something she thought she would never say in her life.
She unbuckled her seatbelt, moved a little closer, and cupped his face with both hands, turning it to face her directly.
Alexander cooperated with her.
She cleared her throat. "Darling, listen to me."
Alexander looked at her delicate face, full of seriousness and sincerity. He raised an eyebrow, as if to say, "Go ahead."
"Sarah calling me that is a habit; it can't be changed," she said.
Then she saw Alexander's eyebrows furrow slightly, but her eyes were filled with a smile.
"But..." she said slowly.
Alexander waited quietly for her next words, but instead of words, he received a sweet kiss.
Victoria's soft, jelly-like red lips met his warm thin lips.
A warm, sunny smile spread across her face. "You are the one who fills my heart completely. You are my most cherished person."
"So, my love, you can be jealous of anyone, but please don't ignore me or be distant. My heart and eyes are only for you," she added.
Alexander was touched by her words, feeling his heart warm and flutter.
Ten minutes later, she got out of the car.
Alexander rolled down the window and greeted her before leaving.
"My goodness, is this really the Victoria I idolize?" Before Victoria could turn around, a teasing and somewhat annoying voice came from behind.
Billy was about to say something when he met Victoria's cold gaze. Then he immediately shut up and said, "Victoria, I'm here. Are you surprised?"
He walked towards her with open arms, intending to give her a hug, but her icy demeanor made him retract his arms.
"Victoria, you weren't like this just now. Why did you change your expression when you saw me?" he asked, "Am I not handsome enough?"
Victoria remained silent.
She didn't want to engage with his foolish and meaningless questions.
"Why did you suddenly come to Rihegde?" she asked, narrowing her eyes at him.
Billy's expression changed instantly; his handsome face turning dejected as he sighed. "Grandpa sent me to Rihegde."
Victoria's mouth twitched. "So, you're the mysterious person Leonard assigned?"
He nodded. "Yes."
Victoria remained silent.
"But," he suddenly changed the subject, "I'm only in charge of non-research matters. As for the research and technical aspects, that's up to you."
In other words, he was there to handle miscellaneous tasks, solving problems wherever they arose, ensuring the research institute operated normally and safely.
Although Leonard's appointment of this mysterious person was a bit unexpected, it was better than sending someone she didn't know.
After all, with a familiar person, some things would be easier to handle.
Five minutes later.
Billy jumped up from his chair, startled. "What? I just got here, and you're leaving?"
Victoria rubbed her ears, not understanding how Billy could make such a sharp sound.
After he calmed down, she said, "While I'm away from Rihegde, you need to cover for me, making everyone think I'm still in the lab. No one should know I'm not here, not even Alan or Leonard."
Billy asked, "Why?"
"Why so many questions?" She thought for a moment and added, "If you call me Victoria, just do as I say."
"But if that's the case, it means I'll have to manage everything in the research institute," Billy said.
Victoria gave him a sidelong glance. "What? Unwilling?"
Billy remained silent.
Clearly, she was asking for his help, but why did he feel like he had no courage to refuse? "I didn't say I was unwilling. I..."
Victoria clapped her hands, cutting him off, "Alright, that's settled then. I'll have others explain the remaining matters to you. I trust your abilities."
Billy remained silent.
"Wait, Victoria, you're not leaving tomorrow, are you?" he asked.
She hadn't mentioned when she was leaving, but from her tone, it seemed she was ready to leave at any moment.
Victoria didn't say explicitly, just patted his shoulder.
"The rest is up to you. I have something to do and need to go out for a while." With that, she left and went to the lab.
She stayed there for an hour before coming out.
Billy felt the worst for himself, just arriving and already having to start work.
Victoria had come to the research institute today to give some instructions, but Billy's timely arrival spared her a lot of trouble.
She walked out of the research institute's entrance, just in time for noon.
Virgil was already waiting for her at the entrance with the car.
She opened the car door and got in smoothly.
"Victoria, I brought all the information you wanted," Virgil said, somewhat nervously.
After all, it was his negligence that allowed Sarah to be taken away today.
He had answered Bryan's call and let his guard down, giving someone an opportunity.
Fortunately, nothing happened, or he would have faced severe consequences.
He hadn't returned with Bryan but stayed in Rihegde.
Victoria responded indifferently, then said, "Don't let it happen again!"
Virgil knew what she meant. "Yes, I understand."
Victoria glanced at him. "Indeed, it won't happen again."
Virgil felt nervous; what did she mean?
He was too scared to speak.
Victoria saw his face visibly trembling.
She thought, 'Am I that scary? Do my words have such a strong impact?'
"Don't worry, I won't do anything to you." She still had things to do and couldn't scare him off. "You don't need to stay in Rihegde; come back to Aidamore with me."
"What?" Virgil was confused, taking a few seconds to react. "Why go back to Aidamore?"
Victoria looked at him, puzzled. "I really don't understand what Bryan sees in you?"
Virgil remained silent.
"Bryan is engaged, didn't you know?" Victoria asked.
"I know," Virgil replied.
"Then why ask!"
Virgil suddenly understood and remained silent.
He scratched his head, deciding to focus on driving. He couldn't outtalk Victoria.
The Kennedy Mansion welcomed another unexpected guest.
