Chapter 199 Be Good, I'm Very Tired
Two hours later, the operating room doors swung open, and out came Owen, still in his scrubs.
"Owen, how's Donna?" Lila grabbed his hand, her voice shaky.
Owen looked at her, saw the worry in her eyes, gave her hand a reassuring pat, and then turned to the others. "Donna's gonna be okay. But with her injuries, she's not heading back to the set anytime soon. The nail went through the side of her right thigh, messed up some muscles and bones. Surgery went well, though. She just needs to take it easy and heal up. Both her hands are dislocated, but that's no biggie; they'll heal with time. She probably used her hands to protect her head when she fell. Good thing your crew had a thick sponge mat. Otherwise, she could've ended up with a serious spinal injury."
Owen didn't want to freak them out, but he wasn't sure if he should call Donna lucky.
The words "serious spinal injury" hit everyone hard. The thought of it was terrifying.
"She's in a ward now; you can go see her," Owen said, trying to pull Lila away.
Lila stopped him. "What are you doing? I still have stuff to handle."
Owen looked serious. "I'm beat. Come crash with me."
Lila went silent. Everyone else did too.
Owen glanced around. "They're here; you don't need to handle it." He rubbed his brow, looking exhausted. "Come on, I'm wiped. I've done five surgeries back-to-back."
Lila noticed the dark circles under his eyes.
He'd done four surgeries in a row and was supposed to be resting, but she had called him over.
Lila, usually carefree, felt super embarrassed with him saying this in front of everyone.
Victoria was the first to speak up, "Alright, you two go ahead. I'll take care of things here."
Lila, feeling awkward, started, "Victoria, I..."
But Owen cut her off, "Alright, then I'll leave it to you."
Then he pulled Lila away.
Patrick looked confused and shocked. How was Lila so close to Owen?
Wesley, who knew the score, wasn't as surprised.
In the private ward, Shirley had just brought over some daily necessities.
Victoria said, "Shirley, stay here and take good care of her. If anything happens, let me know right away."
Victoria glanced at the still-sleeping Donna. Patrick had said Julia was the only one who had beef with Donna, but something felt off. It couldn't be that simple.
Julia was usually a pain, but even she wouldn't go this far. Anyone with half a brain would suspect her; she couldn't be that dumb.
Shirley looked at Donna, her face pale, lips colorless, and arm in a cast, feeling a pang of heartbreak. In all the years she'd been Donna's assistant, Donna had done many wire stunts, but nothing like this had ever happened.
Shirley nodded. "Got it, Ms. Kennedy. I'll take good care of Donna."
Donna, who loved looking good, would probably lose it when she woke up and saw herself like this.
Shirley had been there when Donna fell. She was completely stunned, her scalp tingling, and it felt like all the blood in her body was rushing backward. A bunch of chaotic sounds filled her ears, and she couldn't tell who was who.
Victoria didn't say anything more and left the ward after a while.
Just then, Wesley called.
"Ms. Kennedy, the on-site surveillance is fine; it wasn't damaged or tampered with," Wesley's voice came through.
Victoria was silent for a moment, then said, "Copy a version to my office later."
Wesley replied, "Okay. By the way, after Donna's accident, the crew can't keep filming. This shoot might have to be paused for a while, and the director and investors won't be happy about that."
"I get it. I'll handle it," Victoria said, then hung up.
Two people walked towards her in the hospital corridor. She looked at them, frowned, and wondered why they were together.
