Chapter 397 Resentment in the Heart
On the other side, Victoria, who was about to arrive at the Hughes Mansion, received a reply from Nancy.
After reading Nancy's message, her already cold and indifferent eyes grew even sharper, with a hint of menace.
Alexander keenly noticed her change. "What's wrong?"
"The Hughes family wants Sarah to marry into the Astor family," Victoria said coldly. "They shouldn't have set their sights on her."
Alexander asked, "For that piece of land in the East District?"
She responded affirmatively.
The Astor family was originally set to marry into the Kennedy family, and their son Derek was engaged to Clara. But after Clara's recent scandal, the Astor family no longer wanted her and broke off the engagement. The Hughes family then approached them.
The Hughes family wanted to participate in the development rights of the land in the East District, and the Astor family showed sincerity but with one condition: marriage.
However, everyone knew that the Astor family's son Derek was a fool, and the Hughes family was unwilling to sacrifice their daughter.
Originally, Julia was the most suitable candidate, both in age and status.
But Julia's mother was adamantly opposed, and Julia herself was even more unwilling.
Somehow, Algernon found out about Sarah's existence, leading to today's situation.
While the Hughes family was still in a stalemate, a servant hurriedly ran in.
"Mr. Algernon Hughes, someone has broken in," the servant stammered.
Everyone in the living room was stunned.
Before Algernon could ask who had broken in, Victoria had already appeared in their sight.
The people present were not unfamiliar with Victoria, as she had recently made headlines.
Moreover, the Hughes family was not unfamiliar with Victoria either, as she had almost married into the Tudor family and nearly became part of the Hughes family.
But now, she was no longer the useless and fallen socialite in everyone's eyes.
Now, she had a powerful background; she was the wife of Alexander, the business tycoon.
Even without the Howard family connection, she was a person with various hidden identities.
Facing Victoria's exposed powerful background, not only did the Kennedy family regret it, but so did Soren and Algernon, otherwise, they could have been her family too.
Seeing her and the imposing Alexander behind her, Algernon immediately stood up to greet them.
"Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard, what brings you here?" he said obsequiously.
The rest of the Hughes family also stood up.
Mainly because the Hughes family had never hosted such important figures before, this was a rare occasion.
Soren also stood up to greet them, "Mr. Howard, sorry for not welcoming you properly," he instructed, "Butler, make coffee for Mr. and Mrs. Howard."
Sarah snorted, rolled her eyes, and looked at their obsequious behavior with disgust.
She didn't expect Victoria to arrive so quickly.
Seeing Sarah standing there unharmed, Victoria felt relieved.
The Hughes family didn't know that Sarah and Victoria knew each other, but Claire did. When she saw Victoria, she remembered the time they met at the mall.
She felt uneasy and wanted to warn Algernon and Soren, but it was too late.
"No need." Victoria's voice was cold, with a hint of sharpness.
Algernon and Soren awkwardly looked at Alexander.
But the dignified Alexander didn't even spare them a glance; he stood beside Victoria like a knight.
Algernon and Soren thought Victoria's attitude might be because of the previous incident with Lucas.
Soren then put on a kind smile and said, "Victoria, it was indeed Lucas who wronged you before. He knows his mistake now. If you still hold a grudge, I'll have him personally come to apologize to you."
Victoria glanced at him and said lightly, "No need, my housekeeper is very busy, and we don't have any disinfectant left at home."
Soren's face stiffened and he fell silent.
He didn't expect Victoria to be so disrespectful to him.
The entire living room fell silent.
Victoria's words clearly insulted Soren and the Tudor family's dignity.
Sarah laughed. They all looked at her, but the next second, they saw her winking at Victoria and heard her say, "Darling, if you need disinfectant, just tell me. I'll make sure you have enough."
Who was she calling darling?
As everyone was pondering this question, Victoria responded, "Okay, you buy it, and make sure it's delivered to the house."
The Hughes family was dumbfounded.
Did they know each other?
Soren and Algernon were the most shocked.
And to their surprise, no one noticed the dignified and aloof Alexander slightly frowning at the term "darling."
"Mrs. Howard, do you know my daughter?" Algernon was the first to recover and shamelessly asked.
Victoria raised her eyebrows and said, "What?"
