Chapter 40 Alexander's Cunning
"What is it?" Victoria asked, a bit nervous.
Her usual confidence vanished around Alexander.
"The thing Grandma Davis mentioned."
Victoria played dumb. "Did Grandma Davis say something?"
Alexander squinted at her.
Victoria didn't dare to keep up the act but stayed silent.
Alexander didn't wait for her to speak. "Grandma Davis said she wants to see our child born."
Victoria stayed quiet.
Alexander stared at her and finally said, "Without your cooperation, it won't happen. So, you'll move in with me tomorrow, or I'll move to your place. We'll work on our relationship to fulfill Grandma's wish."
Victoria asked softly, "Can I refuse?"
"No. I can't wait any longer!" Alexander protested.
Victoria paused, then said, "Alright."
Seeing her agree, Alexander's smile grew. Victoria felt tricked. He had promised her time to think, but now he was pushing her.
"But your place is too far from my company. It's inconvenient," Victoria said, feeling guilty. She liked to sleep in, and North Courtyard was close to her work. Alexander's place was in the opposite direction.
Alexander didn't argue. "Then we'll stay at your place. It's big enough for both of us."
Victoria stayed silent.
He left her no reason to refuse. She did have an extra room.
Meanwhile, in room 202 downstairs.
Lucas looked at the bill, shocked.
"Sorry, there must be a mistake. We didn't order any wine."
The bill was two hundred thousand dollars. Their table had only consumed about ten thousand dollars. The extra one hundred ninety thousand was for two bottles of wine. He could afford it, but he hadn't ordered it, so he wasn't paying.
The waiter, serious and unflinching, said, "Sir, there's no mistake. These two bottles are charged to your room."
Julia sobered up and gritted her teeth. "Cousin Lucas, it must be Victoria."
Clara was also surprised.
Hearing Victoria's name, Lucas frowned but paid the bill.
The waiter, expressionless, swiped the card and left without looking back.
The three of them were left deep in thought.
Julia never expected Victoria to trick them into spending more money.
As they walked out of Starlight Diner, they spotted Victoria, who had left a bit earlier.
"Lucas, isn't that Victoria? Who's the guy with her?" Clara noticed first. She grabbed Lucas's arm, and he followed her gaze to see Victoria with a man, looking very close.
Since Alexander had his back to them, they couldn't see his face, but they recognized Victoria instantly.
They watched as Victoria and Alexander walked to a black Cayenne. Alexander opened the car door for her, waited for her to sit, then closed it and walked around to the driver's seat.
At that moment, Lucas and Clara saw Alexander's face clearly.
Clara gasped. The man was incredibly handsome, elegant, and had a noble aura that drew people in.
A flash of jealousy and malice crossed Clara's eyes. 'How does Victoria know someone like him?'
She instantly felt Lucas beside her was far inferior.
In the car, Victoria looked up and saw Clara and Lucas holding hands nearby.
They were staring at her too.
Victoria thought, 'Well, now they know. How boring.'
Alexander got in the car and saw her staring ahead. "What are you looking at?"
He followed her gaze.
Now, Alexander's face was fully visible to Lucas, Clara, and Julia.
Julia was stunned by Alexander's looks. How could someone be so good-looking? Clara always thought Lucas was handsome, but Alexander was on another level. He must be God's favorite.
Clara felt a pang of discomfort. Alexander's cold eyes made people want to get closer.
Lucas, on the other hand, kept staring at Victoria. She seemed different since he last saw her, but he couldn't figure out what had changed.
Then his eyes turned cold. She had just broken off the engagement and was already with another man?
Alexander glanced indifferently and started the car, leaving Starlight Diner.
Julia sneered, "So she was with that guy, no wonder she didn't join us for dinner."
Her words dripped with jealousy and sarcasm.
'That man was really handsome.'
'Why hadn't I met him in Ridgewood before?'
"What's the use of being handsome if he's driving a low-spec Cayenne," Julia chuckled.
