Chapter 191 Sanders, Don't Be So Shameless
Ruth stopped dead in her tracks.
She spotted Bryan, grinning like a Cheshire cat and waving at her.
Just her luck!
How the heck did she bump into him here?
Then she noticed the seat next to him, number 22—her seat.
Seriously?
Running into him was bad enough, but sitting next to him? Ugh.
Adrian, being all high and mighty, had a seat in the row ahead, so no chance of swapping with him.
"Sit down. What? Scared of me?" Bryan teased, patting the seat next to him when he saw her standing there like a deer in headlights.
Ruth rolled her eyes, not even trying to hide it. Her hands clenched and then relaxed by her sides. She silently chanted, 'Don't get mad. Wrinkles, girl, wrinkles.'
After a few rounds of that, she felt a bit better.
She took a few steps forward, spun on her heel, and plopped down in seat number 25, three seats away from him.
Bryan's eyes darkened, his lips pressed into a thin line, clearly ticked off.
But Ruth didn't even glance his way.
Adrian, in the row ahead, turned slightly to look their way. He frowned a bit but kept quiet.
At the entrance, Oliver and Simon showed up and met Lucas at the ticket check. Lucas gave them a polite nod, acknowledging their presence.
Ever since Clara's scandal blew up, the Tudor family had called off the engagement. But Lucas hadn't shown up; he neither agreed nor disagreed to the cancellation. He still greeted them when they met, but he was way colder.
Clara cried every day. She thought she could have it all, but she blew it.
Since Lucas stormed out of the hospital, he hadn't visited Clara in over ten days.
Oliver and Simon knew Clara had messed up big time, so they kept their mouths shut.
Lately, the Kennedy family had been on a losing streak.
With Clara's mess, they lost the Tudor family's resources.
And with Victoria's ties to the Howard family, they were kicking themselves. Even ten Tudor families couldn't match one Howard family. But it was too late. They tried reaching out to Victoria, but she wasn't having it.
Lucas was the first to enter the venue. As soon as he stepped in, he caught a glimpse of a familiar figure, but it vanished in a flash.
He narrowed his eyes. That direction led to the VIP lounge for this academic exchange. Before coming, he had done his homework. His main goal was to expand the Tudor Group's pharmaceutical market in Country M, as they owned a pharmaceutical factory.
He hadn't expected to run into the Kennedy family here. The Kennedy Group wasn't even in this field, yet Oliver had still snagged tickets.
The seating arrangement was all about status and clout. The closer to the front, the higher the rank.
Lucas sat slightly ahead of Oliver and Simon, but not by much.
Shortly after he sat down, a commotion broke out at the entrance.
Everyone turned to look.
Lucas's eyes darkened. It was Alexander. What was he doing here?
Based on his usual M.O., he wouldn't show up in person, would he?
This pharmaceutical academic exchange was for big-shot experts or businessmen. It was an annual event organized by the relevant departments, also broadcast live to the public.
Alexander rolled in with Caleb, Garrett, and Owen, all big shots. No surprise, they snagged seats in the second row.
The first row? Reserved for the top dogs in pharmaceutical research.
Bryan, chilling in the fourth row, glared at Alexander's back, his tongue poking his cheek. Last night's drama still bugged him. He had to admit, Alexander's got clout. Family-wise, he was a solid match for Victoria.
But was Mr. Perfect really all about one girl?
It wasn't that he doubted Victoria's allure, but trusting a guy's heart? Nah.
Bryan himself was living proof.
Ruth eventually dragged herself back to her seat next to Bryan, clearly pissed but out of options.
Seeing him staring ahead, she followed his gaze, a thought popping into her head.
She then casually said, "What? You into dudes now?"
Bryan's brow furrowed. He snapped his gaze back to her, his face tightening, clearly saying, "Wanna say that again?"
Ruth wasn't scared. In this setting, she knew he wouldn't dare pull anything.
She glanced at him indifferently and turned her gaze forward, continuing, "Give it up. He's married, and he's the head of the Howard family. Even if you wanted to chase him, he wouldn't be into you."
She knew he wasn't into guys, but she just wanted to mess with him.
Bryan's mouth moved faster than his brain. "He wouldn't be into me, and I wouldn't be into him!"
Ruth went silent.
She was momentarily stunned, looking at him, and softly asked, "Wait, are you bi or something?"
Why else would he react like that?
Bryan looked at her nosy face, his mouth twitching. Ruth was sure he wouldn't dare do anything to her here, so she spoke freely.
He couldn't openly do anything, but he could be sneaky. He smirked, an unreadable smile spreading.
Before Ruth could figure out why he was smiling, she suddenly felt a pinch on her waist and let out a moan.
People nearby heard the weird sound and looked at her. She could only cough awkwardly.
The woman next to her, a female entrepreneur, glanced at her but said nothing.
Ruth never expected Bryan to pinch her waist. Her most sensitive spot was her waist, and Bryan actually knew it.
Seeing her ears turn red, Bryan's smile reached his eyes. She couldn't do anything now.
"You know, that little sound you made was so tempting. Left me wanting more," he whispered shamelessly in her ear.
Ruth wanted to turn and glare at Bryan, but she knew if she did, they'd end up kissing. She didn't want to be the talk of the town.
She could only lower her voice so only they could hear, gritting her teeth as she said, "Sanders, don't be so shameless!"
Bryan chuckled, "With you, I can be as shameless as I want."
Ruth cursed under her breath. Her good manners crumbled in front of Bryan.
In the end, for the sake of her dignity, she endured it.
The intellectual exchange was about to kick off.
The hosts started to enter.
The first-row researchers were also filing in to take their seats.
Three minutes before the start, two more people entered from the side door backstage. Both were young, a guy and a girl, heading straight for the two empty seats in the middle of the first row. They sat down directly.
