Chapter 100 What Did I Lie to You About?

Evelyn's back ached as she groaned, "Edward! What are you doing?!"

Edward, furious, gripped her wrist tightly, afraid she'd run away.

They could hear each other's heavy breathing, eyes locked in a tense standoff.

"You keep lying to me! Who wouldn't go crazy?!" Edward's dark eyes bore into her, his voice hoarse.

"Edward, what did I lie about?"

Evelyn struggled, her eyes reddening. "You don't know anything about me because you never cared. For three years, if you'd asked, I would've told you everything, but you never."

Edward's brow twitched, his heart pounding.

"Do you know what I like to eat? My hobbies? What songs I like? Where I like to go? I'm your wife. I know everything about you, but you know nothing about me. Isn't that ridiculous? And whose fault is that? Yours!" Evelyn's gaze was like a knife, cutting deep into his eyes, exposing his indifference. "For three years, I was like a book gathering dust on your shelf. I hoped you'd open me, even once, and I'd have told you everything. But I waited three years and got nothing but your abandonment."

'Abandonment? I abandoned you?'

Edward's lashes trembled, his face pale, heart clenching in pain.

'Yes, I lost her. I remember forcing Lily to sign the divorce papers, how she cried silently. She was so reluctant then, so why can she smile now?!'

"Your coldness took me from disappointment to despair. I have no more expectations, no desire to share anything with you. Now, I've lost all interest in you." Evelyn's eyes were bloodshot, but her fierce smile was captivating.

'You lie!'

Edward's body filled with pain. "Lily, have you really let me go? You're just deceiving yourself."

"Deceiving myself? Sorry, I don't have time for that!"

"Do you really like Landon?" Edward finally asked.

"Of course!" Evelyn bit out each word.

"No, you don't. You're with him just to get back at me for divorcing you!"

Edward's breathing was heavy as he moved closer, their noses accidentally brushing.

"Are you delusional?! Go see a doctor, don't bother me!"

Evelyn's body trembled as she turned her face away to avoid his breath.

Unexpectedly, Edward grabbed her chin, forcing her to look into his eyes. "Lily, do you hate me that much? You'd rather be with someone you don't love just to make me miserable?"

"Are you miserable? I'm having a great time."

Evelyn's lips curled up. "I'm happy every day with him. With you, it was like being in prison. Do you think you're worth my revenge? Avenging you would waste my time!"

"Shameless! Why didn't I see your true colors sooner?"

Edward gritted his teeth, heart aching. "Marrying you was the biggest mistake of my life!"

Evelyn's pupils contracted, her nerves snapping, leaving her frozen.

'The biggest mistake of his life. I risked my life to love Edward for thirteen years, and in the end, I got nothing but became a stain in his life. Evelyn, how pathetic you are!'

Edward watched her eyes fill with red, her face pale. Realizing his words were too harsh, he quickly let go.

'I didn't mean that. How did I lose control and say it? If I really mean that, it would be one thing. But I don't.'

"Mr. Wellington? Ms. Brown?!"

At that moment, Tyler hurried over.

Evelyn quickly moved away from Edward, forcing a smile. "Tyler, why aren't you in the front hall with Grandpa? What brings you here?"

Tyler noticed Evelyn and Edward were in a bad mood but didn't comment. "There's a last-minute issue with the birthday party, and I'm rushing to handle it," he said anxiously.

"What happened?" Evelyn asked quickly.

"Patrick knew Byron likes opera, so he hired an opera master as a birthday gift. But the master got food poisoning and can't perform!" Tyler explained, clearly stressed. "What should we do? We set up the stage just for this. If the show can't go on, Byron will be disappointed, and the guests will laugh at us."

"Laugh at us? Not happening," Evelyn said confidently. "Tyler, don't worry. As long as I'm here, no one will laugh at us."

'Us.'

Edward's eyes widened, feeling a deep touch in his heart. Even though they hadn't finalized the divorce, Evelyn still stepped up to solve the family's problems, ensuring Byron had a perfect birthday.

"Ms. Brown! You have a solution?" Tyler's face lit up.

"Where's the backstage? Take me there," Evelyn said, leaving Edward and walking quickly with Tyler.

Edward watched her slender figure, feeling a sense of loss as he clenched his fists, remembering her reddened eyes.

In the backyard, the stage was surrounded by lush decorations, and the guests were enjoying themselves. Byron loved having his family around, so besides Debra, he also invited Landon and Eric to sit at his table. The empty seats quickly filled up. Only Nicole was left at another table, signaling she wasn't part of the Wellington family. Nicole sat there stiffly, seething with anger, ignored by everyone.

Her phone buzzed with a message from Tiffany: [Opportunities are seized by oneself. Sitting and waiting will only make you a laughingstock!]

'A laughingstock? No, I won't be a laughingstock!' Nicole thought, gripping her phone tightly, her eyes filled with sinister thoughts. 'Tonight, the humiliation I suffered, I will repay a thousandfold on Lily!'

"Where's Edward and Lily?" Byron looked around but didn't see them.

Just then, Edward walked over with a somber expression, sitting next to Eric. Eric shivered silently, feeling the cold aura emanating from Edward.

"Edward, where's Lily?" Byron frowned, displeased. "She's missing, why don't you go look for her?"

Edward pressed his lips together, his thoughts in turmoil, unable to respond.

"Byron, I think Lily might have gotten lost since it's her first time here. I'll go look for her," Landon offered, about to stand up.

Edward coldly interrupted, "I don't think that's necessary. It's her first time here, and it's your first time too. Even if you go, you might not find her. Besides, I know where she went, so you don't need to worry."

Eric was stunned, almost dropping his wine glass. Landon and Edward exchanged subtle, yet intense glances. Landon's clear eyes narrowed slightly, a fleeting coldness passing through them.

At that moment, the music started, and the red curtain on the stage opened. The laughter in the audience gradually subsided, and everyone's attention was drawn to the stage. A graceful and charming figure, dressed in an opera costume, stood in the center.

Edward looked at the figure, feeling a strange familiarity. Tyler quietly returned to Byron's side.

"Oh dear, the show has started. Why isn't Lily here yet?" Byron, a theater enthusiast, found it hard to enjoy the show without Lily.

"Byron, Ms. Brown is there," Tyler said, pointing to the stage. "Look, isn't that her?"

Everyone was shocked. Edward suddenly stood up, startling everyone! His chest heaved violently as he stared at Lily on the stage, feeling a tingling shock in his heart!
