Chapter 562 Strong Alliance, the Alexander Family in Trouble (3)

Zachary saw the prosecutors coming his way and knew he was in serious trouble. His legs gave out, and he dropped to his knees in front of everyone.

All social media platforms and news outlets were buzzing with the same breaking news—Zachary had been arrested.

Quick-thinking reporters rushed to Elbert.

"Mr. Alexander! What do you think about Zachary's arrest?"

"Did you know about Zachary's private dealings?"

"Did you benefit from Zachary's position? Did he use his office to funnel benefits to the Alexander Group?"

Elbert's teeth clenched in anger, his face turning a deep shade of red.

He had thought Calvin would handle the situation, but the prosecutors had still managed to break in, led by none other than Donovan's son, Simon!

Both families were prominent and respected, yet Donovan's son had come to arrest his son-in-law! It was a direct slap in the face!

If he had known this would happen, he would have left earlier, slipping away in the chaos. What a miscalculation!

"Dad! We need to go now!" Calvin hurried over, supporting Elbert as they made their way out.

The reporters pursued them relentlessly, and Elbert struggled to move forward under Calvin's protection. In the chaos, Elbert's shoe was stepped on and came off!

"Oh no! My shoe!" Elbert awkwardly lifted his left foot.

"Dad! This is no time to worry about your shoe! We need to get out of here!" Calvin was sweating with anxiety, focused solely on dragging Elbert away.

So, Elbert had to flee the scene with one bare foot, looking utterly disheveled.

"Look! There's a shoe on the ground!"

"Is that Elbert's shoe? He was so panicked that he lost his shoe."

The reporters snapped photos of the shoe, laughing loudly.

...

Zachary was dragged out of the conference center by the prosecutors, his legs dragging on the ground as if paralyzed, too terrified to take a single step.

Across the street, Evelyn and Edward watched everything unfold.

Bart had already brought over the prepared champagne, cheerfully saying, "Congrats, Mr. Wellington, congrats, Ms. Taylor. Together, you're unstoppable!"

The two picked up their glasses, smiling warmly at each other, their champagne flutes clinking with a crisp sound.

"Thank you, Mr. Wellington, for your support. It's been a pleasure working with you." Evelyn's eyes were filled with emotion, her lips red and alluring, making his heart skip a beat.

"I didn't do much; it was mainly..." Edward almost said "wife," but caught himself, quickly correcting, "It was mainly Evelyn, with her thorough planning and meticulous execution. I just did what I could to assist."

He envied Howard, who could openly embrace Chloe, sweetly calling her his wife, and talk about "my darling" without any reservations.

The envy left a bitter taste in his mouth.

But he had no right to complain; he had missed too many chances for happiness.

Being able to reconcile with her now was already a miracle.

He didn't dare ask for more; even if he spent his life as her unacknowledged protector, he would be content.

Evelyn saw her brave partner's eyes darting nervously after he slipped the tongue, his expression flustered.

Her heart tightened, and she moved closer to him, her slender arms wrapping around his neck, lifting her face to kiss his jaw.

Bart immediately opened the car door, a good secretary knowing when to see nothing and hear nothing.

Edward's breathing grew heavy, his large, veined hand caressing her waist, "Evelyn, don't torment me. My ironclad self-control crumbles before you."

Evelyn's eyes reddened slightly, her warm breath lingering by his ear, her voice soft, "My man is amazing. Tonight... I'll reward you."

This crucial conference for Mugden ended in a spectacularly absurd farce.

Zachary's disgraceful political career was exposed to the public, causing widespread condemnation and severe repercussions. Even the president was alarmed, ordering a thorough investigation into the Zhou family and all officials with private dealings with him to root out corruption.

The political scene was in turmoil, with everyone hating Zachary.

The Alexander family was also implicated, their reputation damaged, their dignity lost, and they were now under scrutiny from higher authorities.

On the way home, Elbert scrolled through Twitter, seeing his abandoned shoe posted online, turned into a meme with the caption "Tycoon style, you deserve it." Enraged, he roared and threw his phone, shattering the luxury car's windshield.

By the time they got home, it was late at night.

Unable to sleep, Elbert called everyone to the living room for a meeting.

Caleb, still drunk, staggered over, only to be slapped awake by Elbert.

Conrad sat calmly to the side, his elbow resting on the sofa arm, his fist supporting his head, watching everything with interest.

"Zachary's downfall is clearly someone's deliberate scheme! Who... who dares to plot against the Alexander family?!" Elbert roared in fury, nearly smashing the expensive coffee table.

He had been powerful for decades, never so humiliated. His dignity was shattered, his shoe lost. This old man wouldn't rest until he exacted revenge.

"Dad, Zachary's arrest has really hit the Alexander family hard."

Calvin's eyes were dark with thought. "Our top priority should be to cut all ties with him immediately. We need to destroy any evidence of the benefits we got from his position. This incident has caught the president's attention; if it keeps going, they'll come after us next."

"What? Zachary got arrested? Why?!" Caleb squinted drunkenly, still trying to piece things together.

"You useless fool! All you do is drink and chase women! How did I end up with such a worthless son?" Elbert's patience with Caleb had run out, his words cutting deep.

Caleb hated two things: being compared to Conrad and being called impotent.

His father had hit both sore spots.

"I ended up like this because of Evelyn!"

Caleb, humiliated and furious, gasped, his eyes red, "If it weren't for that incompetent doctor performing surgery on me, I wouldn't be like this! It's all that bitch's fault!"

"Who did you just call a bitch?"

Conrad's lips barely moved, his eyes fixed on Caleb with a murderous glint, "Say it again, who did you call a bitch?"

Caleb's heart skipped a beat, nervously stepping back and collapsing onto the sofa, his tone weakening, "Anyway... It's all Evelyn's fault! She operated on my leg; how could that affect my manhood? She must have sabotaged me!"

In the past, he wouldn't have feared Conrad.

But now, he was crippled, had lost his standing in the company, and fallen out of favor with his father. He was all bluster, no bite, and didn't dare confront Conrad head-on.

"Caleb, Dad calls you stupid, and you're eager to prove it?"

Conrad adjusted his glasses, a disdainful smirk on his lips, "If Evelyn wanted to harm you, she wouldn't have saved you, leaving you paralyzed. So you're saying Evelyn healed your leg just to make you impotent? Haha... Keep such idiotic thoughts to yourself; don't embarrass the Alexander family in public."

"You!" Caleb's face turned red with anger.

"Enough! Stop arguing!"

Elbert pinched the bridge of his nose, his head throbbing, "Who gathered such detailed evidence... who could expose it without anyone noticing? Who has such power?!"

"Who else, Mario's people! Zachary is his nemesis, with the election coming up, he's bound to use any means to take down his opponent!" Caleb grumbled.

"No, it's not Mario."

Calvin's tone was certain, "From what I know, Mario doesn't have that capability. Even if they had some evidence, they wouldn't expose it at such an important conference. It wouldn't benefit them; they'd be held accountable."

Suddenly, Calvin realized something, gritting his teeth, "I have a feeling this ruthless tactic is Evelyn's handiwork."

"Evelyn?" Elbert was shocked!

"Calvin, do you have proof?"

Conrad's eyes darkened, "You wouldn't be blaming Evelyn just because of the argument at the Tang family over Caleb, would you? You're the CEO of a major corporation; show some maturity."

"My suspicion isn't baseless. After the incident with Caleb, our family practically severed ties with the Tang family. You heard what Evelyn said, didn't you? With her vengeful nature, she's bound to cause trouble for us. And here it is."

Calvin narrowed his eyes, coldly scrutinizing him, "Conrad, are you still dreaming of becoming the Tang family's son-in-law? Show some ambition. The Tang family is stepping all over us, and the one who led the arrest was Evelyn's brother, Simon. The evidence was exposed, and Simon immediately came over. Quite the coincidence, don't you think?"

Conrad was speechless, clenching his fists in frustration.

"If Evelyn did this, why involve that..." Caleb's words trailed off as he realized something, breaking into a cold sweat.

He and Helen had conspired against Kylie.

Could Zachary be a decoy, with Evelyn's real target being Helen?

"Dad! Calvin! You have to help Zachary!"

Helen ran in, crying, her makeup ruined, "Zachary has worked hard for our family for years... you can't abandon him!"

"You dare come here crying?! Zachary has disgraced your father!"

Elbert stood up in fury, pointing at Helen's face, "Zachary is finished. If you have any sense, you'll sever all ties with him and stay away from the Zhou family! If you persist, I'll disown you! Don't drag our family down with you!"

Helen was stunned, unable to voice her grievances.

"Helen, the prosecutors will summon you in the next few days. Be prepared."

Calvin stepped forward, heavily pressing her shoulders, "I'll arrange a press conference for you. First, you must apologize for Zachary's actions, presenting yourself as someone who puts justice above family. Second, you must distance yourself from him, denying any involvement in his deeds. Third, you must speak for the Alexander family, trying to salvage our reputation."

Helen's mind was in turmoil, obediently following Calvin's instructions.

Conrad remained silent, his glasses reflecting an inscrutable cold light.

He despised his morally corrupt family members but didn't want the Alexander Group to fall into trouble. Otherwise, he'd inherit a mess.

Let Calvin clean up the aftermath.

He just wanted to reap the benefits.
