Chapter 183 Ragnarok, Blindingly Bright
Jessica stood by the door to the banquet hall, watching Edward look right at her.
"Edward," she said, cheeks flushing as she walked toward him, heart racing with joy.
Suddenly, she caught a strong whiff of roses, intense and alluring. The sharp click of high heels passed by, making her heart skip a beat. The presence was overwhelming, and she barely dared to breathe.
Everyone was stunned. Edward was frozen, his dark eyes locked on Evelyn's exquisite face. She was as beautiful as a painting, her expression cold, with red lips like flames dancing on Edward's heart.
Evelyn wore a custom black suit, trying to be low-key, but her striking beauty made her stand out.
People whispered as Evelyn's appearance was as stunning as a bolt of lightning.
Tiffany and Debra shivered at the sight of her.
Someone exclaimed, "I know her! She's been in magazines and on websites. She's the daughter of Charlie Taylor, the chairman of Knight Spear Group, and she is now the general manager of KS WORLD Hotel!"
"Yes! Her name is Evelyn!"
"Is she the one competing with Edward? She's beautiful but looks tough to deal with."
"I think she and Edward look like a couple. They shouldn't be enemies; they should be together!"
Edward felt a surge of anger but relaxed a bit at the last sentence. 'Strangely, that sounded... pleasing?' he thought.
Jessica watched Evelyn walk past, stealing all the attention and glory. She felt her soul leave her body, eyes turning red with anger. What made her even more furious was the light in Edward's eyes as he gazed at Evelyn. She had never seen him look at any woman with such passion and longing.
'Does he still have feelings for Evelyn? Has he fallen in love with her?' Jessica wondered.
"Ms. Smith, Edward, I came uninvited. Hope you don't mind?" Evelyn said gracefully, her smile making everyone feel at ease.
"Not at all, Ms. Taylor. You are more than welcome here," Edward said with a faint smile. "If I had known you were coming, I would have sent an invitation."
Evelyn's smile didn't reach her eyes. "No need for that. You should know I'm not here for the banquet."
Edward's face darkened. Behind him, Bart broke into a sweat, quickly messaging the bodyguards outside.
Bart: [What's going on?]
Bodyguards: [Sorry, Bart! We don't know where Ms. Taylor came from either.]
Bart: [What kind of answer is that?!]
Bodyguards: [It's our fault! We'll accept punishment! We'll take her out right away!]
Bart: [Are you stupid?! She's Charlie's daughter, the richest man in Hameen, and someone Edward cares about! Do you dare touch her? Just keep an eye on things and report any issues immediately!]
Ada suddenly exclaimed, eyes lighting up, "Ms. Taylor, is that brooch you're wearing an Alexa creation, 'Ragnarok'?!"
"Yes, Ms. Smith. This brooch is indeed 'Ragnarok'," Evelyn responded with a smile.
Everyone was so focused on Evelyn's stunning appearance that they hadn't noticed the yellow diamond brooch, "Ragnarok," which had won the International Jewelry Design Competition's gold award.
"An Alexa piece? It's dazzling! I want to touch it!"
"Haven't you seen the news? This brooch is a treasure that countless jewelry collectors dream of owning!"
"As expected of the richest man's daughter in Hameen, so extravagant!"
"Ms. Taylor, I've been searching for 'Ragnarok' for a long time. After seeing it at the exhibition two years ago, I couldn't forget it. I didn't expect it to be with you!" Ada sighed, her envy clear.
Jessica's chest burned with anger, her sharp gaze almost piercing through Evelyn. She couldn't decide what to be jealous of first: Evelyn's beauty, the coveted jewelry, or the deep gaze Edward directed at her.
"Two years ago, I went through a tough time and couldn't get over it, so I thought of buying a piece of jewelry to cheer myself up," Evelyn said lightly, her lips curving slightly. "I saw 'Ragnarok' at the exhibition and liked it immediately. It healed my bad mood, so I bought it without hesitation."
Her words cut through Edward like a knife, making it hard for him to look directly into Evelyn's bright eyes. Two years ago, he was busy creating the "Heart of Flame" for Nicole. Whatever Nicole wanted, he delivered it as a surprise without her even asking. But he was indifferent to what Evelyn wanted.
Edward continued to gaze deeply at Evelyn, but she didn't spare him a glance. 'So, she still resents me, meaning she hasn't let me go.'
"Jewelry designed by Alexa can't be bought with money!" Ada looked at Evelyn with admiration. "It shows you must be passionate about charity and public welfare."
Evelyn smiled calmly, lowered her eyes, and took off the expensive "Ragnarok" from her chest. She pulled out a silk handkerchief from her pocket, placed the brooch in her palm, and handed it to Ada with both hands.
"Ms. Taylor, what are you doing?"
"'Ragnarok' suits your noble temperament more than it does me. This is our first meeting, and I didn't prepare anything. If you don't mind, I'd like to give you this brooch as a gift."
Everyone was shocked! Tiffany, Debra, and Jessica all gaped in astonishment!
In an instant, Edward's lips tightened, and his clenched fists began to sweat. 'Evelyn, what are you up to this time?!'
