Chapter 245 Release
Debra got grilled by the cops all night, stuck in that station for a whole freakin' day.
Those 24 hours? Pure hell. Sure, they gave her some grub and water, but no sleep, no lying down. She was so wiped out, her eyes were all dark and puffy, and she looked like a total wreck.
A harsh, bright light was blasting down on her, frying her fancy hair!
It was just too much!
"I didn't do it. Dorothy wasn't my corporate spy. I had nothing to do with it. Evelyn set me up." Debra was dead tired, barely keeping her eyes open, but she kept denying everything.
Right then, the door to the interrogation room swung open.
In walked a guy in a suit, carrying a black briefcase, looking all sharp and confident. It was Gordon.
"Sir, I'm Miss Wellington's attorney. Name's Gordon."
Hearing that, Debra's dead eyes sparked up a bit.
Gordon gave her a reassuring look and smiled, "I need to have a word with my client."
Debra followed Gordon to another room. He was the only lifeline she had right now.
"Gordon! Did my dad send you to get me outta here?" Debra grabbed Gordon's hand, tears streaming down her face. "Help me! I can't take it anymore!"
"Miss Wellington, relax. If I took your case, it means I've got at least a close shot at getting you off." Gordon's voice was calm, but his eyes were sharp. "But you gotta cooperate fully, spill everything, and don't hold back."
"Okay, okay!" Debra nodded like crazy, thinking if Gordon could fix the mess Tiffany made, he could definitely save her. She then told him everything.
Gordon listened, stone-faced.
"Gordon, can't you do something about Evelyn? She's such a snake!" Debra slammed the table, fuming. "If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be in this mess!"
"Miss Wellington, Evelyn's the plaintiff. She's the victim here, and you know her connections." Gordon's eyes darkened. "This time, we're up against some serious power. If I can get you out of this clean, that'll be a win. Don't expect miracles."
Debra felt a bit scolded and was kinda upset.
But she needed help, so she kept her cool.
"The journalist Dorothy, who ratted you out, is hooking up with Otis, the big boss at A-Headline. This is gold for us 'cause it makes her testimony look shady." Gordon's eyes were intense as he twirled a pen like a pro. "Plus, Donovan, the suspect, was dating Dorothy before all this went down. That's our ace in the hole."
"You wanna pin it all on Donovan?" Debra whispered, shocked.
Gordon just gave a sly smile.
"But will he fess up? Last I heard, he and Dorothy are totally done," Debra said.
"Don't sweat it." As a top dog at Mugden, Gordon didn't just rely on the Flynn family's clout and his own skills; he was also known for playing hardball.
To win big and flip a verdict, sometimes you gotta go all out.
Even though William begged her enough times, Evelyn still made him leave for a break.
Evelyn had made it loud and clear what this "break" meant. It wasn't about giving him a breather; it was about making him rethink how to deal with her.
Not long after, thanks to Ada's nonstop pestering, Evelyn, posing as Alexa, finally agreed to meet her.
Ada, the international superstar, had no diva attitude in front of Evelyn now, just pure admiration.
Evelyn wasn't out to make Ada's life hard. Even though she was Alexa, she was also a savvy businesswoman. She knew that acting on impulse was pointless; boosting the hotel's rep and raking in cash was the real deal.
So, she agreed to handle Ada's wedding, and Ada was over the moon.
Not just that, Ada also promised a fat budget and swore that if KnightSpear Group ever needed a spokesperson, she'd do it for free to make up for things.
"Ms. Taylor, what's this?" Ada asked, surprised, staring at a document in front of her.
Evelyn took a classy sip of her coffee and said coolly, "Your new wedding plan."
Ada and her agent exchanged shocked looks. "So fast?" Ada blurted out.
'Wow, that was quick!' Ada thought.
"It's not fast. I was ready." Evelyn casually set down her coffee cup. "When I whipped up the first wedding plan for you, I had a backup, just in case. Didn't think I'd need it, but hey, turns out it wasn't a waste."
Ada pressed her lips together, feeling uneasy.
"Ms. Taylor, the wedding date is so close. Isn't it too big of a project to redecorate the venue? Can it be done in time?" the agent asked, clearly worried.
"I know Ms. Smith has always been a fan of the mystery style. You must be into black roses, right?" Evelyn asked with a charming smile.
"Black roses?" Ada squealed in excitement.
"The previous wedding venue was decked out with millions of red roses. Swapping them all out would be tight on time. But if we switch to black roses, it should be much easier," Evelyn explained.
Ada's face lit up with excitement!
If she was happy with the last wedding plan Evelyn gave her, this one was her dream wedding!
The language of black roses was all about mystery, desire, and 'you are mine.'
It was unique and had a kind of cool romance.
"Black roses? Wouldn't that be a bit much?" the agent asked weakly, knowing this change would definitely cause a stir online, and with a celebrity wedding, the buzz would be off the charts.
'This Ms. Taylor is a real business genius. For her, making money is just one part; boosting the hotel's visibility is a goldmine! But isn't Ada being used by her?' the agent thought.
"Am I the one getting married, or are you? And I'm discussing serious matters with Ms. Taylor. Is it polite to interrupt?" Ada glared coldly at her agent. "Since I chose to work with Ms. Taylor, it means I trust her completely. I accept all her suggestions, so stop talking nonsense!"
After re-signing the contract, Evelyn had someone escort Ada and her team out, then went back to brief her team on the latest tasks before calling it a day.
As soon as she stepped out, she saw Landon's Rolls-Royce waiting outside, with the driver respectfully holding the door open for her.
"Landon! You're so free today to pick me up from work?" Evelyn hugged Landon's neck and started to act coy as soon as she got in the car.
"I heard you gave William a break?" Landon touched her soft hair as he asked.
"Yeah, he's been too tired lately and needs more rest," Evelyn explained.
"Is that really the case?" Landon squinted his deep eyes, seeing through her little scheme. "You're swamped with things lately and need help. Why did you send William away at this critical moment? Are you two having a spat?"
Evelyn furrowed her delicate brows. "Landon, why does that sound so strange? We're not dating, so what spat?"
"Everyone can see William's feelings for you," Landon said with a faint smile.
"Everyone?" Evelyn asked.
"And Aunt Donna. She mentioned it to me a few days ago. She didn't feel comfortable telling you directly, so she confided in me."
Evelyn felt a bit helpless as she thought, 'William's secret crush on me has become public knowledge! How embarrassing.'
"Donna is very worried that William, harboring such feelings, staying by your side, will affect your daily life. After all, you two are together day and night. Currently, in the Mugden villa, it's just you and him living there. She's very uneasy." Landon held Evelyn's soft hand earnestly.
Evelyn knew that Donna treated her like her own daughter, which is why she paid extra attention to her romantic affairs.
"I trust William's character. He would never do anything inappropriate. But since you suddenly gave him a long break, I had to ask a few more questions." Landon's eyes showed a hint of concern.
"Actually, I'm giving William a chance to reflect." Facing Landon, Evelyn had nothing to hide and became serious. "I've already noticed that he likes me, so I gave him a break to adjust his mindset, to sort out his feelings for me, and to give him a wake-up call. If he can't let go of his affection for me, then I can't let him stay by my side."
Landon's brows furrowed slightly and he asked, "So ruthless? Just discard him like that?"
"I'm doing it for his own good." Evelyn sighed in frustration. "I've decided not to date anyone in this lifetime. There's absolutely no possibility between us. If he works by my side with such feelings, seeing me every day but never being able to get close to my heart, won't he be in pain? Won't he suffer? I know the excruciating pain of unrequited love. I don't want someone I care about to go through that. William is a great man; he shouldn't waste his time on me. He deserves someone better."
Landon's heart trembled at her words, and he pulled Evelyn into a deep embrace.
At that moment, his phone rang.
With his right arm around Evelyn, Landon answered the call with his left hand, his voice cold and stern. "What's up?"
"Mr. Taylor, just now, Debra was released without charge! Gordon got her out!"
