Chapter 7 The Heirloom Gemstone Bracelet is Only for the Granddaughter-in-Law

In the hospital room, when Byron, who was looking unwell, saw Evelyn, he immediately came alive and felt pleased.

"Lily! Come here quickly! Come to me!"

Evelyn quickly switched to a cooperative state and sat obediently beside Byron.

"Grandfather, how do you feel? Are you still uncomfortable anywhere?"

"Even if I'm feeling unwell, seeing you makes everything better!"

Byron held her hand anxiously and asked, "Lily, Edward said you two got a divorce. Is that true?"

"Yes, grandfather, we got a divorce," Evelyn blinked her eyes, feeling somewhat disappointed.

"You are a blind and stupid fool! You had such a good wife. Why did you let her go? What do you want to do?"

Byron struggled to sit up, glared at Edward, and scolded him.

Edward was worried about Byron's health and dared not speak casually.

"Grandfather, don't be angry with Edward. I decided to end this marriage. Edward and I came to a mutual agreement," Evelyn gently comforted Byron, patting his back.

Edward narrowed his eyes.

This woman didn't complain or vent her frustrations in front of Byron, using him as a means to get back at Edward.

Edward speculated, did she want to capture his heart and salvage their marriage using this unique method?

He thought to himself, ‘Lily, where do you get the confidence to think that I will be attracted to you?’
"Lily, have you been mistreated in our family? Has Tiffany been unkind to you?" Byron asked sympathetically.

"No, Grandpa. It's just that Edward and I have different perspectives on things, and we couldn't fall in love. So divorce was the best outcome for both of us."

Evelyn's hidden sorrow was barely noticeable. "Please don't blame Edward. In these three years, we have shared wonderful memories. That's enough for us. We have no regrets."

Edward furrowed his brow slightly, feeling an indescribable emotion stirring inside him. He couldn't recall any pleasant memories with Lily, and he didn't even give her a formal wedding ceremony. At Byron's insistence, he haphazardly obtained a marriage license with Lily, and she hastily became his wife without substance.

Edward wondered if she truly thought it was wonderful. Perhaps she was being sarcastic.

"Lily, is it my fault then?" Byron cried, sighing with self-blame. "I sincerely wanted you both to be happy together, but I never expected him to embarrass me like this. Sigh! In the end, it's my fault for letting you down."

"Don't say that, grandpa. It's fate. I have truly moved on, really."

Evelyn had finally let go of her thirteen years of infatuation, but Edward had made his decision. If she continued to cling on, she would lose even her dignity. She didn't want to become a hideous woman to gain a little bit of love from a man.

"Tyler, bring me the birthday gift I prepared for my granddaughter-in-law!" Byron exclaimed.

Tyler hastily put on white gloves and handed over an exquisite red velvet jewelry box.

When the box opened, inside was a flawless and collectible-grade gemstone bracelet!

Evelyn was knowledgeable about jewelry appreciation. At a glance, she could tell it was an antique piece with at least a hundred years of history!

"Grandpa, isn’t this grandma's..." Edward looked at the bracelet, his expression stunned.

"Yes, this was the token of love I gave to your grandmother back then. It's a precious heirloom of the Wellington family, passed down from your great-grandfather," Byron said, gently gazing at the bracelet in the sunlight. "Before she left, your grandmother told me that this gemstone bracelet was her favorite among all her jewelry. She hoped that I would give it to a deserving granddaughter-in-law in the future."

"Now that your grandmother has passed away, I want to give it to my favorite Lily. Only she is worthy of such a precious item."

"But grandpa, this... this is too valuable, and besides, I'm no longer..." Evelyn anxiously declined.

"Even if you're no longer with Edward, you're still the granddaughter-in-law I approve of!" Byron suddenly grew angry when she refused. "If you don't accept it, I will smash it!"

"Don't!" Evelyn hurriedly grabbed his hand, her heart pounding. "I'll take it. Thank you, Grandfather!"

"Ah, good girl!" Byron happily put it on her himself.

Evelyn was naturally fair-skinned. Set against this translucent gem, her hands appeared even more radiant.

Edward had never scrutinized her hands so closely. Now, as he looked closely, he noticed her soft, white, and delicate hands, which hadn't lost any of their luster to the bracelet. Indeed, they were beautiful.

"Edward, what did you get Lily for her birthday?" Byron asked, not in a very friendly tone.

"Grandfather, Edward...he already got me something. It's a gift that I'll cherish for a lifetime."

Edward clenched his fists secretly, his thin lips pressing tightly until they turned pale.

On her birthday, he did indeed give her a "grand gift." It was the divorce agreement.

He thought, 'Lily, you really know how to make a statement!'

"Lily, is there really no room for discussion between you and Edward?" Byron still held onto hope.

"Grandfather..." Evelyn gently held Byron's weathered hand. "If you truly love me, you should support me and let me live the life I want. Isn't that right?"

"Alas, since it has come to this, I can't persuade you anymore. Could you wait until after my 80th birthday, then you can leave? It's just a few days away," Byron pleaded, deeply unwilling to let go.

"Grandfather, that's not appropriate." Edward frowned, his voice low and decisive.

"Inappropriate? Do you expect me to celebrate my birthday with that woman from the Adams family and force myself to accept her as my granddaughter-in-law? Do you think she and Tiffany can control all the men of the Wellington family? Let them dream!"

Byron slammed his hand on the bed in frustration. "If you still see me as your grandfather and want me to stick around for another couple of years, stay clear of that woman from the Adams family! I'm telling you, I will never approve of her!"

Outside the door, Nicole stood restlessly, clenching her teeth and tapping her foot in anger.

"Stop pacing. I'm starting to get a headache."

Tiffany rubbed her temples and shook her head. "You're too impulsive. It's not the first time you've seen Byron's attitude towards you. He's on his deathbed. How long can he hold Edward back? You need to make sure Edward continues to love you. That's enough."

"While that makes sense, as long as he's alive, he won't acknowledge my status openly, and I can't marry Edward openly!" Nicole finished speaking and quickly covered her mouth, nervously looking around.

"Back then, Byron also refused to accept me, but so what? I still married your uncle, didn't I, and it was enviable."
Tiffany admired her freshly manicured nails. "People can be sentimental. Edward is, after all, her grandson. If Edward continues to support you, do you think you won't be able to persuade Byron?"

Nicole agreed. She had calmed down quite a bit.

Finally, the door of the hospital room opened.

Tyler escorted Edward and Evelyn out.

Nicole quickly stopped her calculations and softly approached them.

Suddenly, she widened her eyes in shock!

The gemstone bracelet on Evelyn's wrist was so stunning that it couldn't be ignored, far surpassing the so-called heirloom on Nicole's wrist!

She didn't have it when she went in, but she had it when she came out. It must have been given to her by Byron!

Nicole was very jealous. She immediately had a wicked idea. As she approached them, she suddenly lunged at Evelyn.

"Ah!"

Nicole intended to pretend to trip and fall onto her, and while doing so, she would grab Evelyn's bracelet and break it.

However, Evelyn squinted her eyes and gracefully dodged.

Nicole fell flat on her face right in front of her!

Immediately, with a loud sound, Nicole's bracelet broke into two pieces!
