Chapter 612 Brutal Battle, Entering the Finals
"Dad! Randy attempted to hire someone to commit murder! Peter caught the person red-handed. Even if I brought in every lawyer in the world, I couldn't save him!"
Calvin went all in, "If you can't stand the sight of me, just say it. Why bring up Gilbert to mock me? Who's been helping you all these years? Who's been working their heart out for the company? Randy's the one who caused trouble. If we clean up his mess again, our whole family will go down with him!"
These words were actually true. Elbert had also lost patience with Calvin.
"Dad, calm down. I think Calvin has a point," Gilbert spoke up. "It's harsh, but for the sake of the Alexander family, we have to cut our losses. Someone needs to take full responsibility for this."
Elbert's face darkened, his lips pressed tight.
"Dad! If we keep protecting Randy, we'll all get burned!" Calvin and Gilbert were on the same page.
"If that's the case... Calvin, you handle it." Elbert closed his eyes, his voice hoarse.
After their father left, only the two brothers remained in the conference room.
"Calvin, from now on it's just you and me in this family. Please take care of things." Gilbert stood up, sneering at him. "When you go see Randy, be gentle with him. If he finds out he's not getting out, he'll probably tear you apart on the spot."
"You just got lucky, don't get too cocky," Calvin said through gritted teeth. "Helen and Randy ended up like this because of Evelyn and Edward's schemes, it has nothing to do with you."
Calvin continued his mockery: "You bastard child, you're just picking up the scraps of someone else's victory. You think badmouthing me in front of Father will help you beat me? You can't hide how low you are deep down. No wonder Evelyn won't even look at you. What do you have to compete with Edward?"
Gilbert's eyes reddened, and he rushed over to Calvin in a few quick steps, his fists clenched so tight his knuckles cracked.
"Want to fight?" Calvin pointed at the ceiling. "There are cameras everywhere. Don't you want to keep up your gentle image?"
Gilbert forced down his anger, his bloodshot eyes narrowing as he reached up to straighten Calvin's tie, "Calvin, you look so pitiful and ridiculous when you're full of yourself."
"What did you say... ugh!"
Gilbert suddenly yanked his tie tight, and Calvin immediately couldn't breathe.
"You fell right into my trap and still haven't figured it out?" Gilbert kept pulling tighter as Calvin struggled and kicked. "I provoked you a little and you wanted to go deal with those two witnesses. No brains, no strategy - what makes you think you can fight me?"
Calvin's pupils shrank.
"Though you're not completely stupid - you know how to use others to do your dirty work. I wanted to take you all down this time, but I guess I'll have to find another chance." With that, he let go and walked away with a smile.
Calvin stayed in the conference room gasping for air, cold sweat soaking his entire body.
Outside the police station, Evelyn and Edward waited in the car. William and Bart accompanied Anna and another victim girl to give their statements.
"Bart, thank you. And you too, sir," Nyla said tearfully, bowing to William. "Thank you both for working so hard to help us!"
"Nyla, please get up." William helped her up, his eyes reddening. "Helping you is also helping myself."
"Helping yourself?"
"The girl who identified Randy during the livestream is my girlfriend," William said proudly.
"I see... Thank you, Ms. Jennifer Taylor, and thank you both for standing up for us!"
After Anna came out of the interrogation room, she hid in the bathroom to calm down. Bart waited outside, worried. A moment later, Anna came out rubbing her red, swollen eyes.
A handkerchief appeared in front of her. "Anna, wipe your eyes," Bart smiled. "Crying it out made you feel better, right?"
Anna took the handkerchief but couldn't bear to use it, just lightly pressed it against her cheek. "Much better, thank you Bart... I'll wash it and return it to you."
Bart stared at her, his heart racing, and uncontrollably placed his hand on top of her head, stroking it, his voice husky, "If you run into trouble in the future, come find me. No matter when or where, I'll get to you as fast as I can."
Anna looked up and met his bright eyes, her heart pounding like a drum.
...
Across the street from the police station's back door, Evelyn leaned against Edward.
"Just got word from Peter - no one from the Alexander family is stepping up to protect Randy."
Evelyn was on her period today, with a dull ache in her lower abdomen. Edward held her, his palm gently rubbing her belly.
"Mmm... press harder..."
The man's Adam's apple bobbed, his voice husky: "That's what you get for not behaving."
"Calvin's the one who set this up, so naturally he won't show his face. Looks like Elbert has completely given up on Randy." Evelyn sneered. "It's their only choice."
"The Alexander family's reputation has hit rock bottom. Randy has to come forward and answer for this. The police also have to handle him strictly to maintain their credibility. No one can save him this time." Edward asked, "Does it still hurt?"
"Much better."
Just then, a commotion broke out at the police station entrance. Anna and the others, protected by bodyguards, broke through the crowd of reporters and got in their cars. Bart was at the back, protecting Anna.
A reporter rushed forward, shoving a microphone at Anna, "Can I ask if you filed this report because of pressure from KnightSpear Group or the Wellington Group?"
Bart immediately stepped in front of the girl, "What are you trying to say?"
"I know you; you're Mr. Wellington's secretary!" the reporter pressed aggressively. "Was this identification planned by Ms. Taylor and Mr. Wellington? Ms. Taylor and Randy were close friends; is she trying to clear her own name by helping the victims?"
