Chapter 272 A New Height in Career

Outside the corridor.

Bart stood at the entrance of the hospital room, eyeing the two rows of guards lined up in the hallway. Their stiff postures and stern faces, combined with their intense vibe, sent a chill down his spine.

When the door swung open, the guards' boots hit the floor with a sharp, cold sound.

Aaron adjusted his military cap and walked out, his face a mask of indifference. Years in the service and strict daily routines had taught him to hide his feelings around strangers.

"Salute!" The guards snapped to attention and saluted.

"Let's move." With a casual command, Aaron brushed past Bart, and the guards followed him.

The corridor fell silent again.

Bart stared blankly at Aaron's striking and commanding figure. That strong, masculine charm, mixed with a natural but not overbearing nobility, really got to him.

He felt the huge gap between him and Aaron.

While he was lost in thought, Edward walked out with heavy steps and a dark look in his eyes.

"Mr. Wellington! You really shouldn't push yourself. Given your current health, it's not wise to leave the hospital early!" Bart hurried over to support Edward, but Edward stubbornly pushed him away and said, "No. If I don't get back to the company soon, Patrick and Tiffany will get suspicious. They'll use it as an excuse to undermine my authority. They can't know about my hospitalization and injury!"

After arguing with Aaron and holding back his anger for so long, he finally couldn't help but cough painfully.

The sound of his cough shocked and worried Bart, tears welling up in his eyes.

"Your health is the most important thing," Bart said.

"Don't worry, I won't die. I've been through countless battles and injuries over the years, and I'm still here." Edward straightened his chest and took a deep breath.

Thinking of Aaron's harsh words about him disgracing soldiers, Edward felt his eyes quietly turn red, truly wronged.

In the evening, Evelyn booked a fancy private room at KS WORLD and set up a table full of good food and drinks for Aaron.

Simon, Peter, and Jennifer, who were working and studying in Mugden, all came over. There was nothing like a sibling reunion, filled with laughter and warmth.

It was a shame that they just had welcomed Aaron, and now they had to see him off. Everyone's eyes were filled with reluctance for Aaron. Evelyn couldn't hold back her emotions and drank several more glasses, her eyes turning red.

Her feelings were complicated. She was genuinely happy, but thinking of Edward made her inexplicably sad.

'Why does Edward like me? Is it because we went through hardships together on Thunder Peak, or because he found out I'm the little girl he saved thirteen years ago and feels guilty? Or is he just fickle?' Evelyn thought as her lips curled into a cold smile, letting out a low, mocking laugh.

"Evelyn! I heard you went back to that mountain as a forest ranger and almost fell off a cliff while saving someone!" Having heard about Evelyn's latest heroic act from Landon, Simon was still shaken. He gave her a hug and wouldn't let go. "Are you trying to scare me to death?"

"Simon! Let go! Evelyn can't breathe!" Aaron saw Evelyn sticking out her tongue and widening her eyes and quickly stepped in to pry Simon's arms away.

"Evelyn, did that person thank you after you saved her?" Peter asked curiously.

"I passed out after saving her, so I don't know what happened afterward." Evelyn shrugged indifferently, eating the shrimp Aaron peeled for her one by one.

"They did thank you." Landon, having finished eating, leisurely picked up a napkin to wipe his lips.

Everyone looked puzzled.

Evelyn, with a shrimp in her mouth, asked, "What?"

"I left David my number. He contacted me afterward and said that the female climber you saved came over in a wheelchair with her family to thank you the day before yesterday. Unfortunately, they didn't know your name, so they could only call you the kind-hearted lady."

"You personally contacted David? Doesn't that mean..." Evelyn said.

"Yes, he and Joseph, whom you respect a lot, already know your true identity." Landon looked at her with a hint of affection. "Joseph and David weren't too surprised to know you're the daughter of the Taylor family. They just told me to take good care of you from now on. They also said that the money you've donated over the years is more than enough. Joseph has put it into a public fund for maintenance, and there's plenty left over. They deeply appreciate your good intentions. Finally, they hope you'll take care of yourself and stop volunteering."

Evelyn put down the shrimp, pouting.

Landon sighed, his warm eyes filled with indulgence. "Evelyn, the fact that you're the daughter of the Taylor family isn't a secret, and we don't want it to be a secret. After all, you're our precious sister and Dad's beloved daughter. Although only a few people know your identity now, if you really plan to take over the Taylor family business and take my position, it's inevitable that more people will know who you are. You should start adjusting your mindset."

"Landon, wait." Evelyn's eyes suddenly brightened, and she looked at Landon with a sparkle. "Landon, from the way you're talking, does this mean I've officially passed Dad's assessment and can leave the grassroots level to become a high-ranking official within the company?"

Evelyn's mood, previously disturbed by Edward, became cheerful again.

For her, this was a new height in her career.

Landon smiled warmly but kept her in suspense. "I know you're eager, but don't rush. Dad has been quite busy lately. Once he's done, he'll tell you the final assessment results."

"Dad is a bit too serious. It's our family business. Letting Evelyn into KS should be simple for him!" Peter couldn't help but say.

Landon remained silent, as well as Evelyn and Jennifer.

"Well, let me propose a toast to Evelyn first." Jennifer stood up, holding her glass, full of sincerity. "I wish you a swift promotion and all your dreams come true."

"That's what I like to hear!" Evelyn beamed, downing her drink and blowing Jennifer a kiss.

Jennifer shyly lowered her head, her cheeks turning a rosy pink.

"Come on! Let's all toast to Evelyn! Wishing her all the best! Cheers!" Landon and the others raised their glasses, the room filled with warmth and affection.

As Evelyn listened to the clinking of glasses and saw the sincere eyes around her, she was deeply moved, tears welling up in her eyes.

The dinner ended in a warm and cozy atmosphere.

Evelyn hugged Aaron. They had been laughing and chatting during the meal, but when it came to parting, their eyes turned red.

In fact, Aaron's military base was just in Dubline, not far away.

But because of his important position, he sometimes had to travel for months, making family gatherings rare.

"Aaron, will you be back for Joyce's birthday?" Evelyn raised her hand to touch the military insignia on Aaron's shoulder and personally put his cap on him.

"Sorry, Evelyn." Aaron sighed guiltily, pinching her cheek and then looking at Jennifer. "Sorry, Jennifer, please apologize to Joyce for me."

"It's okay, Aaron! We know you're busy. Your work is important!" Jennifer quickly waved her hand, not daring to accept the apology.

"But I've already prepared a birthday gift for Joyce. Evelyn, could you please give it to her for me?" Aaron said.

"Sure, Aaron."

In the hotel's underground parking lot, the colonel's bulletproof car, specially driven from Dubline, had been waiting for a long time.

The adjutant respectfully opened the car door. After saying goodbye to his family, Aaron got in the car, rolled down the window, and reminded Evelyn, "Don't interact with that Edward anymore. Let him fend for himself, got it?"

"Got it! Aaron, goodbye." Evelyn's eyes sparkled, her red lips soft and glossy. She acted obediently in front of Aaron, even more gentle than Jennifer.

After seeing Aaron off, Simon and Peter also had to return to their work.

Evelyn had drunk quite a bit and needed more rest, so she asked Landon to take her home.

"Miss Taylor, let me take you home." William almost instinctively stepped forward. Taking care of Evelyn had become second nature to him.

"If you leave, who will take care of Jennifer? Jennifer has also had quite a bit to drink!" Evelyn stepped forward, wrapping her arm around Jennifer's soft waist. The alcohol had given her extra strength, and she pushed Jennifer into William's arms.

Jennifer, already feeling dizzy, almost couldn't stand after Evelyn's push!

Fortunately, William's eyes deepened, and he quickly caught Jennifer, holding her against his chest.

Jennifer looked up in a daze, and at that moment, William lowered his head, their gazes meeting.

Their hearts simultaneously skipped a beat, their breaths becoming erratic.
