Chapter 606 Help!
After Anna got home, she had poured out so much sadness in front of Evelyn and cried for so long that she was completely exhausted. So she slept straight through until the next afternoon.
Her mother had gone out to work. She struggled to get up, but really didn't feel like going out, so she called the tailor shop where she used to work and ordered some fabric materials, planning to make a backpack for Bart.
Actually, if it had been someone else asking, she probably wouldn't have really bothered to help.
But when Bart carefully made his request, his eyes were so bright and his tone so sincere—it clearly wasn't just casual talk. It made her take it seriously and want to finish it for him as soon as possible.
That evening, the tailor shop owner called, saying he'd arranged for delivery and the fabric was almost at her door.
Anna thanked him gratefully and waited patiently at home.
After some time, there was a knock at the door.
She eagerly went to open it, her hand on the doorknob, but then thought better of it and asked cautiously, "Who is it?"
The person outside paused for a few seconds. "Delivery for you."
Delivery? Wasn't it supposed to be the fabric?
Anna was full of suspicion and asked again, "I've ordered lots of things. Is this local or from out of town?"
The person outside said, "You'll see for yourself when you open the door to sign for it."
Something's wrong... something's not right!
Maybe it was because she'd been hurt before and was overly sensitive, but Anna clearly sensed danger!
She absolutely couldn't open this door!
"I... I haven't ordered anything online. Did you get the wrong door? Try asking at someone else's place!"
A violent kick against the door!
Anna trembled with fear, covering her mouth in panic, backing away step by step!
The worn door shook under the fierce impacts, as if it would come crashing down any moment!
Just as her emergency call connected.
With a thunderous crash, a tall man in black, almost as tall as the doorframe itself, burst through the door!
"Help—!"
In terror, tears instantly streamed from Anna's eyes.
Before she could even see the man's face clearly, he pounced on her, pinning her to the ground and viciously grabbing her throat!
"Ugh... help... help..."
Anna's face turned purple-red, using all her strength to claw at the man's large hands. The words squeezed from deep in her throat came out broken and fragmented. The desperate feeling of suffocation gradually took over what little consciousness remained, blurring her vision as the man's rough, vicious breathing grew more and more distant.
In a daze, Anna felt the hands choking her neck release their grip.
Then she heard sounds of fighting, two dark figures crashing about, turning everything upside down.
In the last moment before losing consciousness, she heard someone calling her: "Anna, hang on!"
It seemed... to be Bart's voice.
But in the end, her eyes closed heavily, and she fell completely unconscious.
...
Bart, who had arrived just in time, was locked in fierce combat with the man in black in the narrow living room!
He had originally come on Edward's orders to check on Anna's situation and bring her some financial support.
Who would have thought he'd walk right into someone trying to kill her!
Bart fought desperately with the assassin, but he wasn't William—his fighting skills weren't that strong. After several rounds, he was knocked to the ground, his whole body feeling like every bone was broken.
"Sticking your nose in... then you can both die together!"
The killer improvised, pulling a kitchen knife from the stove, raising his arm high, and stabbing straight toward Bart's chest!
In that split second, a gleaming butterfly knife came spinning through the air, precisely slicing across the man's raised arm. The piercing pain forced him to let go.
CLANG—the kitchen knife fell to the floor!
"Peter?" Bart stared in shock, hardly able to believe his eyes.
Before the killer could react, Peter delivered a powerful roundhouse kick, sending the attacker flying through the air and crashing heavily to the ground!
"Don't move! Move again and I'll shoot!"
Peter stepped over the man's back, his knee pressing into his spine, his right hand pulling his service weapon from behind his waist and pressing it against the back of his head!
The killer didn't dare resist anymore, and his slashed right arm was still bleeding, making him grimace in pain!
"Captain Taylor!"
"Captain Taylor! Are you okay?"
Two officers from his team arrived just then, handcuffing the killer and hauling him up.
"Take this guy back! And call an ambulance right away—there's an injured woman here!" Peter said.
"Yes, Captain Taylor!"
His men took the killer away, and the crisis was completely over.
At that moment, the battered Bart struggled up from the floor, using what little strength he had left to lift the unconscious Anna into his arms.
"Anna... hang on... you have to hang on!"
He took one step forward and his body swayed from the pain, but Peter quickly caught him.
"Bart, what are you doing? Don't you know you're badly hurt too!"
"I... I'm taking her to the hospital!"
Bart was gasping for breath, holding the girl tightly in his arms, barely able to see the road ahead. "An ambulance won't be as fast as me. I'm taking her to the hospital right now!"
"Leave everything else to me, don't worry about it!"
Peter was deeply moved by what he saw, his hand gripping Bart's shoulder. "Protecting the witness is important, but you're also someone very important to Evelyn and Edward. I can't let anything happen to you either!"
