Chapter 54 Edward, I Don't Love You Anymore

Evelyn's gaze hardened, revealing a distant expression.

"It seems that Nicole has taken good care of you, Mr. Wellington. You've become even more shameless than before," she said coldly.

"This is between you and me. Don't involve others," Edward retorted.

"If you don't want me to say even harsher words, stay away from me. Besides getting the divorce papers, I want to avoid having any more interaction with you. Goodbye!"

Perhaps he had become accustomed to Lily's genuine love for him throughout those three years and the radiant look in her eyes whenever she saw him. At this moment, her eyes were incredibly dull as they gazed at him. He felt as if he had fallen into icy water, feeling cold.

"I won't let you leave!"
Evelyn lightly parted her crimson lips and chuckled, her laughter clear. "You forbid me to leave, but does that mean I can't? Am I your pet? Why should I listen to you?"

"You don't need to belittle yourself like that. I never thought that way," Edward frowned, displeased.

"Belittle me? Haha... Edward, you're so ordinary yet self-assured. Can't you understand sarcasm? I'm saying I hate you, don't come near me again!" Evelyn's eyes turned red as she tried to free her hand from his grasp.

But Edward was also a stubborn person. The more she struggled, the harder he pulled, not understanding what gentleness meant.

Evelyn groaned in pain.

She gripped her forearm with her left hand, hunching her shoulders, sweat forming on her forehead.

Only then did Edward realize what had happened and quickly let go of her hand.

He lowered his gaze and saw a circle of bloodstains on his palm, immediately furrowing his brows in concern.

He had inadvertently touched her wound. He was eager to take her away and even forgot about the injury on her wrist.

He had been too hasty.

"I'll take you to the infirmary to dress the wound now," Edward said in a hoarse voice.

"Leave this instant, or I'll call the police," Evelyn angrily retreated.

"Lily..."

"Get lost!"

Evelyn finally couldn't contain her anger and shouted, her heart throbbing like her hand.

They had been married for three years, and Edward barely paid her any attention, even refusing to touch her fingers.

They divorced, and now he came to pester her, touching and embracing her without any disgust.

It was truly ironic!

Evelyn's furious outburst made Edward's soul tremble, and his delicate face turned cold.

"Did you get lost? Why weren't you so determined when you insisted on marrying me and becoming my wife?"

"Because I loved you back then," Evelyn's eyes turned crimson, and she laughed angrily.

Edward felt a pain in his chest, his breathing becoming heavy.

"When I loved you, you could do whatever you wanted to me. But now that I don't love you, everything will disappear. After our divorce, you can still enjoy the benefits of my devotion to you. No, Edward, I don't value you at all when I don't love you."

Evelyn raised her chin proudly, without any nostalgia, and turned around to leave.

"Lily, if it wasn't for Grandfather, do you think I would willingly seek you out? Do you know how much Grandfather misses you? Do you know how worried he is when he can't contact you?"

Edward's eyes also turned red, and he retaliated, "You keep saying you want to accompany Grandfather, but what about now? Have you broken your promise? Do you think Grandfather has become senile and can be fooled by you?"

Evelyn's breath hitched, and she clenched her fist.

Byron was undoubtedly the person she cared about in her heart, as well as the tie between her and Edward.
Evelyn was a woman of great loyalty and sincerity. Once she made a promise, she would always keep it, no matter what. She had promised to stay with Byron until his birthday before divorcing Edward, and she would never back down, even though the process was extremely agonizing.

"I didn't go back on my word. I will find time to visit Grandpa in these two days."

"Now."

"What?"

"Go see Grandpa with me now. He hasn't been able to sleep peacefully for five days, and if he doesn't see you, he won't even have the mood to eat dinner."

Edward's patience reached its limit, and even his breathing became restless. "Don't let him down, Lily."

In the end, Evelyn compromised.

When she took care of Byron in the sanatorium, she indeed had other intentions. At that time, she didn't hope to marry Edward; she just wanted to do something for him and have more opportunities to see him.

Later, during her day and night time spent with Byron, she genuinely grew fond of this lovely old man.

Although Byron was old, he had excellent hearing and vision, as well as astute wisdom. Even if he weren't physically present at the Wellington Group, he would remotely monitor some important decisions and guide the young members of the Wellington family when necessary, enlightening them.

Evelyn also learned many skills from Byron. She shared everything she learned with Landon and used it while managing the hotel.

Therefore, Byron was not only her relative but also her mentor.

Edward accompanied Evelyn to the infirmary, but the doctor happened to be absent. She skillfully took out iodine gauze and began to dress her wound.

"Let me do it," Edward said, his face cold as he approached.

Annoyed, she evaded him, her expression indifferent. "No need."

Edward was just as stubborn as her. He either ignored it completely or had to handle it himself.

So, he firmly grasped her small hand and spoke with a dominant tone, "Lily, listen to me!"

Evelyn suddenly became stunned, feeling a cool sensation on her wrist.

Edward earnestly treated her wound, gently applying the cotton swab to the injured area.

His long eyelashes drooped, and the blue veins on his muscular arm stood out against his fair skin.

Fate was unfair. Some people only needed to stand still to be charming, while others had to exude their charms deliberately.

Edward remained calm, carefully examining her hand's injury.

Her hand was much rougher than he had imagined, yet as soft as cotton.

Her fingers were fair and slender, but the tips were covered in thin calluses, which gave her a sense of weariness that didn't match her age.

Suddenly, a tingling sensation spread through Edward's mind, permeating his nerve endings. Images of hazy moonlight, fluttering curtains, and entangled figures appeared in his mind involuntarily.

All of them were unfamiliar scenes, but they felt familiar.
Edward took a deep breath, trying to calm himself, as his throat moved up and down. He had never had such thoughts about Nicole, but he felt this embarrassing desire for his ex-wife, who repeatedly challenged his temper. He was unreasonable. Evelyn felt the burning warmth of his fingertips, and her heart felt as if it had been burned as well. She quickly tried to withdraw her hand. "Alright." "Bandage." Edward didn't let go of her. His fingers tightened around her small hand. He teased, "Did you go mining these past few days? Your fingers are so rough, all calloused."
"No, I went to clean the septic tank." Evelyn knew that Edward liked cleanliness, so she deliberately said something disgusting to him. "Lily, can you speak proper English?" Edward frowned. "I am speaking proper English. If you can't understand, then it means we're not the same kind." Evelyn laughed cunningly and provocatively. Edward felt quietly angered. After obtaining a backer, this woman became even more unrestrained. But he also found this side of her intriguing. If they hadn't divorced, he wouldn't have known that Lily could be so clever and mischievous. Although Evelyn only had minor injuries, Edward was skillful and quick in treating her wounds. Years of privilege had yet to make hadn't made him someone who could only make money. She had asked Aaron about Edward and learned that he had ranked first or second in all his achievements when he was in military school. The only opponent who occasionally challenged him for first place was Ulysses. In terms of character and intelligence, he was more suitable than Ulysses to be a secret agent, and he could also fill Aaron's position. However, as a child of the Wellington family, the only path he could ultimately take was to become the inheritor of the Wellington Group. Surprisingly, after leaving the military and entering business, Edward also managed to make his career. He had exceptional talent in the business world, like a legend. It's just a pity that he had poor judgment of people. Nicole destroyed his once glorious reputation. Evelyn sneered. Well, if he was willing, then let him be with that bad woman. She would stay far away from him, alone and beautiful. Evelyn and Edward arrived at the parking lot. Evelyn was about to go to her own Bugatti but was suddenly stopped by Edward. "Where are you going?" "Of course, to get my car." "Ride in my car." Edward's tone was strong and not open to refusal. "I won't ride in my ex-husband's car, goodbye." Evelyn casually waved her hand, but Edward directly opened the car door with one hand and forcefully wrapped his other hand around her waist, pushing her into the car and quickly slamming the door. "Hey! What are you doing?! Kidnapping?!" Evelyn anxiously protested, pounding on the car door. "I don't trust you, Lily."
Edward's left arm propped up the car roof as his tall figure bent down. He locked eyes with her outside the car, his squinting eyes emitting an eerie vibe as if she were a trapped bird unable to escape. "You're so cunning. I have to be on guard against you."
