Chapter 486 The Most Important Link
Bart's loud voice was incredibly penetrating, so Evelyn heard it too.
"Percy, I have something to deal with here. I'll contact you later!"
Evelyn hurriedly hung up the phone and immediately stared at Edward with shining eyes.
Edward's thin lips curved slightly as he rubbed Evelyn's head with his large hand. "Why did he suddenly figure it out?"
"Just last night, Lloyd was attacked by someone in his cell. Someone stabbed a toothbrush into his neck! Fortunately, he fought back until the patrolling guard arrived, saving his life!"
Edward and Evelyn exchanged a deep look. "How is he now?"
"He's receiving medical treatment. As soon as he was out of danger, he started clamoring to see you and Mrs. Wellington. Hmph, I guess he's scared to death!"
Bart let out a satisfied, cold laugh. "He's only been in prison for a few days, and someone already wants him dead. How is he going to survive the long twenty years ahead? Naturally, he's coming to beg you two for a way out!"
Evelyn's beautiful eyes widened slightly. She happily stood on tiptoe, wrapped her arms around Edward's neck, and planted a sweet kiss on his handsome face.
Edward's eyes darkened. He circled her slender waist with his right arm, lifted her easily with one arm under her small, perky butt, making his blood boil.
He pressed his left hand on the back of her head, responding fiercely to her kiss.
His starry eyes reflected her shy, beautiful face, filled with intoxicating passion.
"You saw through Tiffany's plans so clearly." Evelyn's nose touched Edward's nose, no longer stingy with her praise.
"Evelyn, I could think of it because I had you to help me, to enlighten me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have thought of this method."
Edward pecked her lightly pink lips. "Tiffany fell into the trap mainly because you used public opinion to attack her. She had ill intentions, so she thought of silencing people by killing them."
"But I didn't expect Tiffany to act so quickly. Now she's already been grounded by Patrick, and Trevor and Lloyd have been arrested one after another. She can still find people to run errands for her without leaving the house. She really has a lot of people under her."
Evelyn squinted her eyes. "Mr. Wellington, don't forget, you still have that good sister Debra. When it comes to being ruthless, she's no less than Tiffany."
"I only have one sister, and that's Molly."
Edward's voice was hoarse with desire, his squinted eyes like a lion eyeing its long-coveted prey, domineering, scorching, and making her heart race. "But you, you have quite a few male friends."
"Who? Percy?" Evelyn curled her lips mischievously. "Are you jealous? Hmm?"
Edward's eyes reddened. "In this world, besides your father, your brothers, and me, any man who would go to such lengths for you, if you say he has no ulterior motives, who would believe it?"
"So what? I'm very popular."
Evelyn's eyes were seductive as she played with her hair. "If you can't even tolerate Percy, you'll have a hard time in the future."
Edward knew she was joking, but his heart ached, and his eyes darkened.
Evelyn stopped teasing him, her warm, teasing breath spraying on his ear. "Many men like me, but I only like you."
Edward's heart pounded, beating heavily against his chest.
Suddenly, memories of the past flooded his mind.
Now, he couldn't even accept an ordinary friend around Evelyn. How did she stay by his side for those long, torturous nights over the past three years?
Thinking of his past indifference and cruelty towards her, Edward's eyes welled up with tears, filled with pain.
He could never get over it. Even though Evelyn had forgiven him, he couldn't forgive himself.
"Hey, are you serious?" Evelyn was startled to see his eyes turn red. "I was clearly joking. Why are you crying?"
"No, it's nothing." Edward took a deep breath and smiled again.
"Get ready, let's go find Peter first, then meet Lloyd."
Evelyn said as she tried to get down from Edward, but Edward held her waist tightly, pressing their bodies together again.
"Evelyn, I'm hungry."
Edward's hoarse voice was filled with unsatisfied desire. He carried Evelyn towards the bedroom. "Feed me first, then I'll have the strength to work."
Evelyn pounded his shoulder, feeling like crying but having no tears!
Maybe she should go to the hospital for a few days instead!
By the time they saw Lloyd walking out of the prison gate, it was already late.
Although it was already spring, the early morning and evening winds in Mugden were still chilly.
Edward took off his suit jacket and draped it over Evelyn, then wrapped his arm around her slender shoulders, pulling her into his embrace.
The two stood in the dark night, listening to the rustling of the wind through the leaves, their expressions calm, but their hearts were as excited as the unceasing wind.
"He confessed." After a long time, Evelyn finally spoke.
"Yes, he confessed everything."
Edward held her rounded shoulder, his long-held anxiety finally settling. "It's all about to end."
"No, not yet. Sebastian is still missing."
"But Sebastian isn't connected to Tiffany. His testimony isn't crucial to Lloyd's case."
Evelyn raised her serious little face to look at him. "But Sebastian almost took your and Landon's lives! Even if he has nothing to do with Tiffany, I can't let him go!"
And the mastermind behind it all.
But she had no concrete evidence to point to Gilbert yet; it was all speculation.
And Sebastian was the most crucial link in the chain of evidence!
