Chapter 468 Leaving the Country

Landon's heart skipped a beat, his cheeks slightly reddening under the intense, heated gaze.

"You're overworked, you look terrible."

"Are you concerned about me?" Adrian's long eyes glimmered with a captivating softness.

Landon's Adam's apple bobbed, and he responded in a low, nasal tone. "Yeah."A simple word, yet it made Adrian's heart leap with joy, dispelling all the resentment he had felt towards Landon. He couldn't help it."I've already operated on Mr. Wellington, removing the bullet from his left shoulder and the arrowhead from his back."

Adrian, supported by Landon, subtly leaned into Landon's embrace, "It's a stroke of luck that the arrowhead wasn't poisoned, or he would have died instantly."

"Even so, his condition is still critical. The arrowhead was just shy of piercing his organs. If any organ had been damaged, you know the consequences. Not even the best doctor could save him."

Everyone was stunned into silence, their faces filled with shock and fear.

Evelyn's thin shoulders trembled, her chest feeling as if a heavy wheel had rolled over it, tears welling up in her reddened eyes.

She was a doctor; she was the best doctor.

She knew all too well what Adrian's words meant: Edward, who was severely injured, was in grave danger!

"How is Edward now?" Eric asked anxiously.

"Although we successfully removed the sharp objects from his body and gave him a blood transfusion, he was already in a state of severe blood loss during the rescue, and his organs are showing signs of failure. So, he's not out of the woods yet," Adrian, as a doctor, could only tell the truth.

Everyone's hearts sank again, and their expressions turned somber.

Evelyn felt as if all the blood had been drained from her body, leaving her cold as if she were in an ice cellar.

In the past, Edward would always understand her emotions at times like this, wrapping his suit jacket around her or holding her in his arms, trying to transfer all his warmth to her, no matter how strong and invincible she appeared in front of others.

To the one who loved her deeply, she would always be a little girl in need of protection.

"Can I go in and see him?"

After a while, Evelyn looked up at Adrian with a pale face, tears glistening at the corners of her eyes.

"He needs to be in the ICU now. Once he's out of the critical period, you can go in and see him," Adrian said softly.

Evelyn nodded slowly, her throat tightening, "Okay, I'll wait."

At this moment, seeing Evelyn's sorrowful and pitiful appearance, Adrian's heart ached for her.

After donating blood for Edward, Wade was taken to a regular ward to rest by the medical staff.

"Are you okay, Wade? If you feel uncomfortable, you must say so. Don't push yourself."

Nancy stayed by Wade's side, seeing his pale face, as if he had aged several years overnight, she felt indescribably distressed. "You once had acute appendicitis and still insisted on giving a lecture at school."

"The moment you stepped off the stage, you fainted from the pain. The doctor said if you had come a little later, it would have been life-threatening! You always make me worry! You don't know how to take care of yourself!"

"As long as you care for me, that's enough." Wade gently pinched Nancy's cheek, smiling tenderly.

"I'm serious!" Nancy pouted, poking his side.

"Actually, I don't feel much, just a bit dizzy and light-headed, no strength." Wade smiled nonchalantly, "I'll have my secretary prepare some food to nourish my body. I made some for you, too, so you can take care of yourself."

Evelyn walked in half-jokingly, "Wade, you need to take care of yourself now. When Nancy has a baby, you can take care of her then."

"Evelyn, what are you saying? We haven't planned for that yet." Nancy's face turned red, and she pressed her lips together.

"Evelyn is right. Now that our careers are stable and the election is over, Nancy, it's time we added a new member to our family."

Wade held Nancy's hand, his thumb gently stroking her delicate fingers, "I know you've always loved children. You haven't had one because of me."

"You've endured a lot of hardships following me around all these years. I'm sorry and feel guilty. From now on, it will be good days ahead."

"What are you saying?" Nancy leaned closer to Wade, gently caressing his well-defined face, her smile sweet and youthful, "Following you without hesitation was my choice. You don't owe me anything. On the contrary, you've given me more than enough."Wade was moved, sitting up and cupping Nancy's neck, kissing her passionately.

Nancy initially felt shy and tried to push him away, but gradually, she got lost in his tenderness, responding to his kiss.

Evelyn turned away, hiding in the shadows, leaning against the wall, almost moved to tears by Nancy's happiness.

Although Charlie had not been optimistic about them, and Evelyn had her concerns about Nancy moving far away to Aurora Isle, seeing their enduring love always filled her with envy.

After a while, Nancy's face was still flushed with embarrassment.

Wade, however, was at ease, not treating Evelyn as an outsider, and continued to hold Nancy while talking to her.

"Evelyn, don't worry. I spoke with King Owen of Torontow last night. He has assigned newly promoted officers to handle the capture of Sebastian."

"Once Sebastian is caught and interrogated, the truth about who tried to harm Mr. Wellington and Landon will come to light."

"Thank you, and thank you for donating blood for Edward. Really, thank you." Evelyn was so grateful she was almost incoherent.

"It's nothing. If I couldn't even do that, there wouldn't be much use for me." Wade felt a bit embarrassed.

At that moment, his phone rang. Seeing it was a call from Owen himself, he quickly answered.

During the conversation, Evelyn noticed Wade's expression growing serious, and her heart tightened.

After the call ended, Nancy quickly asked, "Wade, is something wrong?"

"Sebastian is not in Torontow; he has left the country," Wade said, his eyes heavy.
