Chapter 494 Everything Under Control
Evelyn accompanied her family and took Charlie to see the doctor while secretly planning the next steps.
Charlie's condition was not to be taken lightly. After much deliberation with Donna, Joyce, and Susan, they decided to inform Landon and Simon to come back and visit Charlie.
Donna also called Adrian over to treat Charlie.
Evelyn was the best in surgery, but Adrian was the expert in neurology.
After a series of examinations, Adrian patiently explained the CT scans to Evelyn and the others. The Taylor family gathered around him, listening intently.
Only Landon stood on the outer edge, his tall figure looking down at Adrian, who was dressed in a white coat and explaining seriously to the patient's family.
His deep eyes sparkled with a gentle light, and the corners of his lips curved slightly, like a beautiful crescent moon.
Adrian kept talking and suddenly lifted his long eyelashes, looking accurately in Landon's direction.
Their eyes met instantly.
Landon's breath hitched, and he quickly looked away, his handsome face showing no trace, but his heart was pounding.
Adrian chuckled softly to himself and then said, "Everyone, don't worry. Mr. Taylor's condition is more serious than it was two years ago, but it's not as bad as you think. Regular monthly check-ups, having someone around to take care of him to prevent emergencies, and taking medication on time can control it well."
"Diet should be light, with less oil, salt, spice, and sugar. Thick blood increases the risk of an attack."
Hearing this, Joyce nodded continuously, silently planning a new menu in her mind.
"All of it is my dad's favorite." Simon smiled wryly, "If he hears this, he'll probably be very upset. He loves his food."
"He'd better start taking care of himself. He's sixty and still doesn't know how to take care of his body. I've caught him twice sneaking cake in the kitchen at midnight! Where's the image of a big business tycoon?" Evelyn crossed her arms and shook her head in frustration.
"And the most important thing is to keep the patient in a calm state of mind, avoiding emotional ups and downs, and especially anger. Getting angry will worsen the condition and is also bad for the liver," Adrian said seriously.
Everyone had a look of "understanding" on their faces.
Only Evelyn stood among them like a shadow, her long eyelashes lowered, her heart gripped by an invisible hand, spreading an indescribable pain.
After Charlie's check-up, the family returned to Oasis Villa.
In the living room, Charlie was surrounded like a child, watched as he took his medicine, and then watched as he ate the light food Joyce brought him.
At dinner, Charlie gently said to Donna, "Donna, you will accompany me to the horse race this weekend. I'll have Hubert send the dress to your room for you to choose. If you don't like any, I'll have more sent."
"Charlie, do you really want to go?"
Donna looked worried, "Your health just stabilized, and Adrian said you need more rest. Let's skip this year."
"No, I have to go."
Charlie was open to discussing meals, but business was non-negotiable, "KnightSpear Group is at the top in Hameen, but it hasn't made a name in Mugden yet, at least not as prominently as the Wellington Group and the Alexander Group."
"So this is a rare opportunity to show up, and we must seize it. Besides, I've already made an appointment with Elbert, I can't cancel!"
Charlie became the richest man because he was an absolute opportunist.
Evelyn inherited all of Charlie's strengths perfectly.
Clearly, she could have become famous as "Edward's ex-wife," but she chose to impress everyone with her various powerful identities and personal charm.
"Charlie, I have a request."
Evelyn slowly took a sip of water. "Can you take Joyce to the horse race this time?"
Charlie was stunned, clearly not expecting her to make this request.
"Evelyn, I don't go because I don't like such events. Every time I go to crowded places, I feel uncomfortable, and I don't know how to talk or understand social etiquette. Donna is the best choice, or Susan could go!" Joyce quickly explained nervously, her face turning red.
"Charlie, let Joyce go. It can't be me every year, or the media will start writing nonsense again." Donna seemed to understand Evelyn's intention and went along with it.
Charlie's handsome brows furrowed, and he looked deeply at Joyce beside him, asking in a low voice, "Joyce, are you unhappy?"
Joyce shook her head vigorously.
Charlie took her trembling hand under the table and held it gently, "You've always been reluctant to attend public events. I thought you didn't like them, and I didn't want to put any psychological pressure on you."
"You can tell me your true thoughts, and I'll do my best to fulfill them."
"Charlie, I really don't." Joyce's eyes filled with tears, almost cried.
Seeing her so flustered, Charlie felt very uncomfortable.
Over the years, he thought he had healed Joyce's wounds and opened her heart.
But deep down, Joyce still had shadows from her youth. She was just trying to play a normal person to make him feel at ease.
In the end, Charlie decided to take Joyce to the event and had Hubert prepare a dress that matched her temperament overnight.
For now, everything was under Evelyn's control.
"Evelyn."
After leaving the table, Joyce caught up with Evelyn and hesitantly asked, "Why do you insist on me going this year?"
"Joyce, you can't hide and be invisible forever. It's too cruel and unfair to you. You were so beautiful and radiant back then, the media praised you." Evelyn stared at her intently.
Thinking of the once glamorous Joyce, now just a housewife, Evelyn felt both sour and bitter.
Joyce always believed that Charlie saved her and that the Taylor family accepted her. So she never complained.
"That was in the past."
Joyce's eyes dimmed, and she smiled bitterly, "I never thought I was that great. I just sang and acted; it was my job, just an ordinary worker."
"No matter what happened back then, you can't be troubled by those shadows now. You need to step out of the shadows bravely. You're not just our elder, you're also Jennifer's mother. You need to be strong and set an example for her!"
Evelyn's words hit Joyce's heart.
Thinking of Jennifer, she felt a surge of strength, and the gloom in her heart was instantly dispelled.
"Yes, I've been too weak. I'm a mother now, and I need to be strong." Joyce smiled with shame.
"And also." Evelyn took her hand, leaned close to her ear, and whispered with a smile, "Just wait, I have a big gift for you."
