Chapter 577 He Is Going to Make a Move!

"It's just a plane, why are you so worked up?" Evelyn traced Edward's jawline with her fingers. "For your birthday this year, I'll get you one that's even better than Gilbert's, okay?"

Bart gasped. A private jet as a birthday gift? The heiress of the richest family sure lived up to her reputation.

Edward, however, took her hand, his expression serious. "Evelyn, I'm your man, not some kept boy. If anyone's giving gifts, it should be me giving them to you."

"We don't keep score."

"You've already given me so much." Edward's voice was tinged with sadness. "I have a whole room dedicated to the gifts you've given me. During the time we were apart, I spent many nights in that room, just looking at them."

Evelyn's heart trembled at his words. She said nothing more, sealing her response with a kiss.

"Ahem, I might not get this kind of romance, but doesn't this sound a bit..." Eric's words were cut off.

"Sir!" Ellen rushed down the stairs. "Our people... they've found Sebastian!"

"What?" Evelyn and Edward stood up simultaneously.

Eric was so excited he could barely speak. "Where is that bastard? Didn't they capture him?"

Ellen shook her head, pained. "I'm sorry, sir... Sebastian had help. When our men cornered him, there was a fierce fight with his crew. Everyone's badly injured, and two are in critical condition!"

Eric's face turned red with anger. "In Mugden, right on our doorstep, and they dare to do this?"

"We had the upper hand, but we didn't expect Sebastian to have reinforcements!" Ellen was furious. "Those guys are skilled and armed to the teeth. It's a miracle our men made it back alive!"

Eric slammed his fist on the table, his knuckles cracking. Not only had they failed to capture Sebastian, but his men were nearly wiped out. It was a slap in the face.

"Eric, what's wrong?"

Molly's soft voice came from the staircase. She was wearing a crumpled white slip dress, rubbing her sleepy eyes, looking confused. As she spoke, one of her straps slipped off, revealing the marks from the previous night's kisses on her neck and collarbone.

Bart quickly shut his eyes, and Edward awkwardly looked away.

Eric rushed over and wrapped her tightly in his arms.

"Eric... please don't be mad, okay?" Molly whispered, trying to comfort him.

"I'm not mad, I'm thrilled! Come on, let's go back to our room!" Eric, eyes red with urgency, picked her up and hurried upstairs, whispering in her ear, "No one else gets to see, only me!"

The living room fell into an awkward silence.

Bart hastily explained, "I didn't see anything! Mr. Wellington, you can vouch for me!"

Ellen's face turned pale. She had been so focused on reporting that she had overlooked Mrs. Wellington, and now she felt deeply guilty.

"Ellen, don't worry," Evelyn said gently. "Taking care of Molly on your own isn't easy. If Eric says a word against you, Mr. Wellington and I will back you up."

Edward nodded in agreement.

"Thank you, Ms. Taylor, thank you, Mr. Wellington," Ellen said, biting her lip. "Actually, it's Mr. Clark who has it the hardest."

After a while, Eric returned with dark circles under his eyes.

"Thank you for your hard work," Edward sighed.

Eric didn't mention what had just happened, diving straight into the matter at hand. "Sebastian is a wanted man with no power or influence here. How could he get so many people to risk their lives for him? Is Gilbert secretly protecting him?"

This was exactly what Evelyn and Edward had been thinking. Sebastian was a key witness against Gilbert, and Gilbert would never let him fall into their hands.

"As long as Sebastian is still in Mugden, it's only a matter of time before we catch him," Edward said hoarsely. "But I don't want any more innocent people to get hurt."

"Um... I have a question," Bart raised his hand. "Why would Gilbert go to such lengths to protect Sebastian? Wouldn't it be easier to just kill him on his own turf?"

"Sebastian is a former officer, and his men are mercenaries. In a confrontation, Gilbert might not come out on top," Ellen analyzed. "Plus, with our people searching the city, any big move from Gilbert would expose him."

Bart still didn't get it. "But as long as Sebastian is alive, he's a ticking time bomb for Gilbert."

This realization hit Evelyn like a ton of bricks, connecting all the dots in her mind.

"Damn it! Gilbert's going to make a move on Sebastian!"
