Chapter 416 Shut Out

Here, Edward received a tip from May and immediately sent Bart to closely follow Tiffany.

As soon as the murderer was wanted, Tiffany hurried out. To say this was just a coincidence, even a ghost wouldn't believe it!

Maybe, by following Tiffany, they could catch the murderer!

Two days passed, and Edward was still in the hospital, staying in the room next to Evelyn's, separated by just a wall.

In those forty-eight hours, he didn't go in to disturb Evelyn. Only when she was asleep after taking a sedative would he stand at the door, gazing through the glass window at her haggard yet still beautiful face that moved his heart. Then he would raise his hand and gently trace her serene face on the glass with his fingertips.

He could accompany her like this, silently and without a sound.

He was just afraid that even such silent guarding, she wouldn't want from him.

"Edward."

The door to the smoking room opened, and Edward's cigarette trembled slightly between his fingers as he turned to see Ulysses at the door.

Ulysses walked over to him and stood beside him. "Give me a cigarette."

Edward's long eyelashes fluttered as he pulled out a cigarette and handed it to him. Ulysses held it between his lips and gestured for him to light it.

Edward's sharp eyebrows furrowed slightly as he lit the cigarette for Ulysses.

Ulysses was the first one who could make Edward lower himself to do such a thing.Since Ulysses was one of Evelyn's brothers, he had come to terms with it. Putting on a sour face and acting high and mighty in front of the Taylor family was the most useless thing and would only make them dislike him.

Right now, if he wanted any hope between him and Evelyn, he had to find another way.

Ulysses took a deep drag of the cigarette, exhaling a series of round smoke rings, and glanced at him teasingly, "With such beauty in front of you, you really can hold back. You haven't gone in once these past two days, just staring longingly. If it were me, I would've rushed into the ward and kissed her madly."

As he spoke, he squinted his eyes and licked his lips.

Edward's hand trembled.

Daring to speak so boldly in front of him, Ulysses really didn't see him as an outsider.

"Recently, I've been stretched thin, having to take care of Evelyn."

Amidst the swirling smoke, Ulysses' expression turned serious, "So, I'm counting on you. As soon as there's any news, let me know immediately. I want to kill him with my own hands!"

As he finished speaking, he cracked his knuckles with a fierce snap.

Edward was silent for a moment, then extinguished his cigarette, "You don't need to do it; I'm enough."

"No, you can't do that." Ulysses said firmly.

"For Evelyn's sake, why can't I?" Edward asked, puzzled.

"If you really want a future with Evelyn, then you better behave."

Ulysses lowered his eyes, opened his palm, and slowly clenched his fingers, his gaze somewhat obscure, "That kind of thing, I'm well-versed in. But you can't. Once you have blood on your hands, everything will head in an unpredictable direction. Evelyn wouldn't want your hands stained with blood either."

"They've been stained long ago."

Edward pulled out another cigarette, his thin lips curling into a bitter smile, "When I was a special forces soldier in the peacekeeping unit, I killed more than one person in Liberland."

"You know it's different. Anyway, I hope you don't get into any more trouble. The more trouble you cause, the more trouble Evelyn will have."

Ulysses snorted coldly, "Don't think I'm concerned about you; it's all for Evelyn."

"I know, but thank you anyway."

Edward's starry eyes flickered as he cleared his throat and softly said, "Thank you, Ulysses."

Ulysses was taken aback, sensing his sincerity.

Edward pressed his lips together, his jawline gradually tightening.

The atmosphere was a bit awkward.

Suddenly, Ulysses' phone rang, breaking the awkwardness.

"What's up?"

"Mr. Taylor, Gilbert wants to see Ms. Taylor. As per your instructions, we've stopped him." The bodyguard reported truthfully.

"Good job! I'll give you a bonus later!"

"Thank you, Mr. Taylor! We'll make sure he doesn't get in!"

Hanging up the phone, Ulysses' lips curled into a wicked smile, "Let's go."

"Where to?" Edward looked puzzled.

"Since you're so sincere, I'll help you vent your anger, how about that?"

Outside the corridor of Evelyn's hospital room.

Gilbert was stopped by the Taylor family's bodyguards, something he hadn't expected at all.

Even though Evelyn had clearly rejected him not long ago, Charlie was on his side.

Since their talk, Charlie had looked at him differently, treating him kindly like a son.

How dare the Taylor family's people stop him?

"Let me in." Gilbert adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, the lenses flashing coldly.

The bodyguard's attitude was firm, "Sorry, you can't go in."

Another bodyguard chimed in, "We're just following orders, please don't make it difficult for us."

"What did you say?" Gilbert gritted his teeth, his eyes darkening, "You should know my relationship with Mr. Taylor. Aren't you afraid Mr. Taylor will make things difficult for you if you stop me?"

"Who is it, using Charlie's name to pressure people, such big talk."

A familiar voice, mocking and sarcastic, made Gilbert's heart tighten.

He looked in the direction of the voice and was stunned.

He never expected that Edward would come with Ulysses!

"Mr. Taylor, what's he doing here?" Curtis behind Gilbert was also very surprised.

Edward looked at Gilbert's uneasy face with a cold, piercing gaze.

"So it's you, Gilbert." Ulysses raised his chin slightly, a casual and loose demeanor, "From the way you were talking, someone might think Charlie's son came to recognize him."
