Chapter 601 Fragrant and Sweet Night
As soon as Charlie spoke, everyone stopped in their tracks. A sudden silence fell!
Evelyn's beautiful eyes went wide as saucers, her cherry-red lips parted in shock as she stared at Charlie in disbelief.
"You... what did you just say?"
Edward's chest rose and fell with trembling breaths, his pupils contracting as he gazed at Charlie's handsome, dignified face. His breathing stopped, his heartbeat counting down the seconds.
"If you go back now, you probably won't get home until early morning, right? If you don't have anything going on tomorrow morning, just stay here tonight." Charlie said with lowered eyes, then coughed lightly twice.
This time, he heard it clearly. Evelyn heard it clearly. Everyone heard it clearly!
The enormous surprise hit Edward like a ton of bricks. His heart raced wildly, his clear eyes glistening with emotion as his throat tightened. He then bowed deeply to Charlie.
"Thank you... Mr. Taylor, thank you for being willing to take me in."
Being allowed to stay here had brought this proud, towering man, the young master of Mugden's top financial group, down to the dust in humility.
Evelyn's heart ached. She couldn't bear to see him suffer any grievance and quickly stepped forward to help him up.
"What are you doing? It's just staying one night, it's not that big a deal."
"It is a big deal, Evelyn."
Edward's eyes reddened, his starry gaze shimmering with barely noticeable tears. The excitement in his heart surged like towering waves. "I'm so happy... All the achievements I've made in my life combined don't make me feel as happy, as satisfied as this moment."
To others, it was just a simple overnight stay.
To Edward, it was like the hope of rebirth.
Charlie gave Edward a meaningful look, then took the lead in walking into the villa.
"William, Dad... has he forgiven Edward? Has he accepted Edward?" Jennifer clutched William's arm, standing on tiptoe to whisper excitedly in his ear.
"I hope this is accepted too."
William gazed at Jennifer with eyes as gentle as water, raising his hand to tuck a strand of dark hair behind her ear. "As long as today is a little bit better than yesterday, even just a tiny bit of progress, that's good."
Evelyn was deeply moved. She cupped his chiseled face, and her soft red lips suddenly pressed against his, kissing him without caring who was watching.
At first, Edward was so shy his whole body went stiff, but then he couldn't help but wrap his arms around her slender waist, their lips and tongues intertwining, reluctant to part.
The Taylor family elders couldn't bear to watch anymore and quickly turned around, making small talk as they left.
William gripped Jennifer's small waist tightly, his Adam's apple rolling with difficulty as he pulled Jennifer urgently toward the door.
"Hey... William, slow down!" Jennifer's slender legs beneath her white dress worked hard to keep up.
William's clean, clear jawline tightened, the V-lines at his waist tensing along with it.
Slow? He couldn't slow down at all.
He wanted her too, wanted her badly.
...
That night, the air at Oasis Villa was filled with happiness.
Edward had been swamped with company matters lately. Not only did he have to work with Eric to search for Sebastian's whereabouts, but he also had to keep up with Tiffany's case. He pushed himself to the limit handling business affairs, trying to free up as much time as possible to be with Evelyn.
Although he was often exhausted, barely able to keep his eyes open, once in bed, he became energetic, lavishing love and satisfaction on Evelyn.
He was truly afraid of letting his lover think he was getting old.
She was only twenty-five, while he had already reached thirty.
Those rivals of his, every single one of them, might not be as wealthy as him, but they were all younger. He absolutely couldn't let Evelyn notice his shortcomings.
Even though everyone knew they were already intimate as husband and wife, Edward remained proper, not daring to overstep beyond his room.
Of course, he wouldn't—his beloved Evelyn was staying on this very floor. It was too tempting.
Tonight, Charlie had surprisingly accepted him. If he didn't behave well now and instead pushed his luck by climbing into Evelyn's bed...
He might not see tomorrow's sun.
Edward leaned against the headboard, using his laptop to handle urgent business matters Bart had sent over.
Before he knew it, his eyelids slowly closed, and he fell asleep sitting up.
After who knows how long, Edward suddenly felt a cool breeze on his face, ticklish and soft.
Originally, he was extremely tired and sleeping soundly. But years of military experience had made his alertness and sensitivity higher than ordinary people.
The man's eyes shot open instantly, his starry gaze flashing with a cold light, like an awakening lion.
"Ah!"
In the darkness, Evelyn's delicate cry of surprise rang out.
The next second, having replaced the laptop and now straddling the man's thighs, Evelyn lost her balance and fell backward.
Edward's sleepiness vanished completely. His breathing grew heavy as his large hand quickly caught her waist, curved like a crescent moon. With an effortless lift, Evelyn's soft, fragrant body fell into his warm chest.
"Evelyn, you... How did you get in here? When?"
His mind was still foggy, but his hands habitually gripped her sides, gently stroking up and down.
Evelyn clutched her chest, pouting playfully. "Phew... you scared me to death. Do you know how terrifying your expression was just now?"
"Sorry, Evelyn. It's a habit I picked up from my time in the military, an incurable stress response, I guess."
Hearing this, Evelyn's eyes filled with deep sympathy as her delicate hand caressed his cheek.
Edward felt terribly guilty. He caught her small hand and kissed her palm, but his heart was quite anxious. "How did you sneak in here? What if someone finds out?"
"This is my home. Why would I need to sneak in? I came in openly and honestly."
Evelyn narrowed her cunning eyes, her fingertip tapping his nose. "Why do I feel... Mr. Wellington is a bit flustered?"
"This is my first time at your home, your real home. Evelyn, I... want to make a good impression on your family." Edward's stunningly curved lips moved as his voice came out muffled.
"Pfft, so that's what it is."
Evelyn couldn't help but laugh. Her soft fingers playfully undid two buttons on his shirt collar. "The people in my family are the most troublesome, hard to please, and hard to win over people in the world."
"Evelyn." The man smiled bitterly.
"They're already slowly accepting you, so don't be afraid. You just need to be yourself."
As Evelyn spoke softly, she had already unbuttoned Edward's shirt all the way down. "You've been staying up late working behind my back again. If you sleep sitting up like this until morning, you'll definitely get a herniated disc.
Take it off and change into pajamas. Lie down properly."
"Mm, okay."
Edward was very obedient. But when he stretched his back while changing, it was both sore and painful.
Could it really be because he was getting older?
"Evelyn, you should go back to your room..."
But before Edward could finish, Evelyn had gotten into his bed.
"I want to sleep with you."
"Evelyn, be good. Wait until we get back to Mugden."
"No! I want now!" Evelyn grabbed his clothes and wouldn't let go.
Edward stared intently at Evelyn's little expression as she bit her lower lip—charming, adorable, and alluring. Desire stirred within him, his lower abdomen tightening continuously. He was already struggling to restrain himself, fighting the urge to pin her down on the bed and have his way with her.
In the end, he gave in, slowly lying down beside her.
Evelyn rolled into his arms, and he skillfully embraced her, offering his arm as her pillow.
In this moment, both were satisfied, sighing softly in unison.
"When you see Charlie in the future, don't be so humble anymore."
Evelyn couldn't bear to see his self-respect hurt. After all, for the past thirteen years, the Edward she loved had been a dazzling morning star that no one could match. "Even though he married four wives, he's not Owen, and this isn't the Middle Ages. You don't need to hang your head in front of him.
You must always remember, you're Evelyn's man."
"I was too excited at the time, I didn't think that much."
Evelyn's heart fluttered, and then with a blushing face, she pecked the man's lips.
In the deep quiet of the night, that sound was both sweet and delicious.
Edward's lips curved up, his doting smile deepening.
Her desire-filled eyes shimmered with soul-stirring moisture in the lingering night.
Her small hand expertly explored downward, grasping his smooth silk pajama pants and slowly pulling them down.
"Evelyn... this is your home." Edward's breathing grew heavy as he pressed down on her hand.
The soft hum that escaped Evelyn's throat made his whole body tremble, his mind racing. "Isn't it usually at my home too?"
The man's eyes reddened from restraint, his voice impossibly hoarse. "That's different."
"To me, it's all the same."
Evelyn kissed his Adam's apple, her shapely leg lifting to hook around his waist. "Wherever you are, that's home."
The last taut string in Edward's mind completely broke.
The next moment, he panted deeply and pressed Evelyn beneath him, his large hands impatiently removing her gossamer-thin nightgown.
