Chapter 19 Meeting Evelyn

"Evelyn... I feel like I've heard this name somewhere." Edward squeezed his forehead, mumbling to himself.

"I did a thorough investigation about Ms. Taylor."

Edward felt that the usually foolish Bart finally had some intelligence. Bart finally realized that he wanted to be ahead of him, and he was pleasantly surprised.

"Tell me the results."

"The result is, I found nothing." Bart shrugged, helplessly raising his hands.

"Bart, I think you can go settle your salary at the human resources department tomorrow," Edward said coldly.

"Mr. Wellington, don't be angry! It's not that I didn't want to investigate, but Ms. Taylor's information is as classified as top-secret files. I really have no choice!"

Bart's face turned pale. He wiped his sweat nervously. "Isn't it strange? I found out that Ms. Taylor is Mr. Taylor's only daughter from his first marriage, a legitimate heiress of a prominent family. But I couldn't find any information about her online. Maybe she's hiding in the deep mountains and old forests?"

"Do you have a photo of her? Show it to me."
"Ah, here it is! I had to make a great effort to find it." Bart took out his phone and showed Edward a photo.

Edward carefully looked at it and became extremely enraged. "Bart! Are you asking for death?"

The old photo on the screen was very blurry, and the little girl in Charlie's arms was only four or five years old.

This absolutely didn't reveal any clues!

"Mr. Wellington, don't be angry! This is truly the only photo of Ms. Taylor that I could find on the entire internet. It was taken twenty years ago at Mrs. Taylor's funeral..." Bart felt danger was lurking around Edward. Next time, he needed to have some emergency medication on hand.

That was a photo from twenty years ago. Evelyn appeared to be quite young, around twenty-four or twenty-five.

She was about the same age as Lily.

Edward stared at the photo intently. The more he looked, the more his eyebrows furrowed.

He thought to himself, 'Why do I feel like the facial features of the little girl in the photo resemble Lily a bit?

Damn it! We both got divorced. I shouldn't be thinking of her from time to time. This is truly self-inflicted humiliation.'

At that moment, a servant's voice came from outside the door.

"Mr. Edward, Mr. Patrick would like to see you. He has something to discuss with you."

In the living room, Tiffany leaned in Patrick's arms, sobbing softly.

She was already in her forties, yet she could still lean into Patrick's arms without any hesitation and cry so sadly.

"Patrick... my sister is truly pitiful. After marrying into the Adams family, she took care of her husband and children, always staying in her place. She finally had a few good years. Now, something like this has happened..."

"When she called me tonight, her voice was hoarse from crying. She even said she felt ashamed to come see me, not wanting to embarrass the Wellington family..."

"How can this be embarrassing? We will soon be family, and we shouldn't be so polite," Patrick placed his hand on Tiffany's shoulder, gently comforting her. "When Edward arrives, we can think of a solution together."

Over the years, Tiffany had managed to drive away Edward's mother and successfully marry Patrick by relying on her delicate nature, keeping him under control.

However, Patrick was just fond of her and infatuated with her.

"Dad, you wanted to see me," Edward walked over, his gaze cold.

"Edward, this time, you must save Nicole's family!" Tiffany wiped her tears elegantly with a handkerchief and choked, "Both Bray and Nicole have weak health. As soon as this matter came up, Nicole stopped eating and drinking, and she's already fallen ill. If you love her and care for her, you need to find a solution quickly!"
"Edward, have you figured out what's going on with this matter?" Patrick asked, frowning while comforting Tiffany.
"I have. The one who exposed this news is Evelyn Taylor, a newly appointed general manager at KnightSpear Group," Edward replied, avoiding Patrick and Tiffany's affectionate scene in front of him.
In his memory, Patrick had never shown him and his mother such affection. Edward felt that Patrick had probably forgotten what his mother looked like.
"KnightSpear Group? The Taylor family from Hameen?" Tiffany covered her mouth, unable to help but exclaim, "They are the richest family in Hameen. How could my sister's family offend them?"
"The Taylor family and the Wellington family have never gotten along. Our ancestors had deep grievances against each other. The Taylor family's great-grandmother even made a vow that no one from their family would ever marry anyone from our family. Anyone who disobeys will be expelled from the Taylor family and not allowed to return," Edward explained.
Initially, Edward didn't care because he was going to marry Nicole, not some high-class lady from the Taylor family.
But when he heard these words, a crack seemed to appear deep in his heart, and a chilling sensation surged up.
"Oh dear! It must have been someone from the Taylor family who saw that the Adams family was going to form a marriage alliance with us, so they secretly attacked the Adams Group, trying to suppress the Wellington family indirectly! They are so vicious!" Tiffany angrily squeezed the handkerchief in her hand.
"Edward, you need to meet with Ms. Taylor tomorrow and find a way to make her stop attacking the Adams Group. This is not just a problem for the Adams Group, but it will also affect the honor of the Wellington family!" Patrick said sternly.
"Oh, Patrick, don't be so harsh. What are you doing? Edward has always been obedient to his parents' words. As soon as we speak, he understands," Tiffany softly whispered, gently squeezing Patrick's shoulder.
"I'm saving the Adams Group solely for Nicole; it has nothing to do with anyone else, Aunt," Edward said, his beautiful eyes cold as a deep pool before turning and leaving.
Tiffany's face turned pale with anger.
She was clearly the wife of the chairman of the Wellington Group, but Edward still called her Aunt. It was a big irony!

"Stop right there! Why are you still calling her Aunt? Tiffany is my wife, your mother. How can you be so disrespectful?" Patrick stood up abruptly and angrily questioned.

Edward stopped, but he didn't turn around. "A person can have multiple wives, but a mother can only have one. You know that very well. Why do you have to make things difficult for me?"

Landon came to Mugden to see Evelyn tonight. During dinner, they inevitably mentioned Mike and the Adams Group.

"Dad already knows about your decision. He didn't say much, but he did say that if the evidence is solid and the plot is true, then we must pursue it to the end and not forgive easily." Landon carefully sliced the steak for Evelyn.

"Charlie is promiscuous when it comes to women, but he's quite rational in other aspects." Evelyn took a bite of the bloody steak and chewed while squinting her clear eyes.

"That's why our three stepmothers are so devoted to him. Besides being promiscuous, Dad actually has a good character. He never mistreated any of his wives."

"Yeah, the ones who came later were really proud. There's always only laughter for the new person. Who cares if the previous lovers cry?" Evelyn lowered her eyelashes sadly and forcefully inserted her fork into the steak.

Landon gazed at Evelyn's gradually reddening eyes and gently caressed her hair. "I know you no longer hate the three ladies. You just can't let go of the unfairness our mother experienced."

"But Evelyn, have you ever considered that maybe our mother stopped blaming Father a long time ago?"

"How could she not blame him? She was just gritting her teeth and enduring it. What woman in this world can tolerate having so many wives by her man's side, knowing that his heart is with..."

Evelyn's voice choked and stopped abruptly.

She thought, 'Am I not the same? I knew that Edward had someone he loved in his heart, yet I still married him despite my love for him. I wholeheartedly gave myself to him, only to be cruelly thrown away in the end.
Charlie may be promiscuous, but he knows how to care for others. But what about Edward? In these three years, he hasn't taken me seriously and has repeatedly stabbed my heart, cynically speculating about my feelings for him.
I was truly blind. I actually loved this heartless and unfaithful man for thirteen years!'

"Edward has been quiet these past couple of days. He hasn't called me," Landon said leisurely as he sipped his red wine.

"Well, it's because he's busy solving problems for the person he loves and their family. He doesn't have time to care about me."

Evelyn casually swirled her highball glass, narrowed her eyes, and revealed a resolute and ruthless expression.

"Lily is too weak. This time, Evelyn will visit her!"
