Chapter 76 I Really Want to Take Her Home

'Listen! Charlie has such a foul mouth! He even cursed his son to die.'

"I think there's no need for this, right?"

Ulysses lowered his eyes, raised his eyebrows coldly. "I have to keep my life for your sake. Otherwise, when it's time for the family to pull the plug, I'm really afraid that Landon and the others won't be able to do it. You'll still have to rely on me then."

"Ulysses, how dare you pull my breathing tube?! I'll beat you!"

Charlie was very angry, shouting for John to get a stick while wishing he could take off his handmade leather shoes and throw them at Ulysses' smirking face!

Despite Landon and Simon's persuasion, Donna and Susan's mediation, Charlie's anger did not dissipate.

Suddenly, a gentle voice came.

"The dishes are ready, shall we start eating?"

The noisy crowd instantly quieted down, all turning their heads in unison.

They saw Joyce in an apron, holding a spatula, with delicate skin stained with oil, looking at everyone in confusion.

Charlie's stomach growled. "Let's dig in! I need to be full of energy to deal with Ulysses!"

Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and accompanied Charlie to the dining room to eat.

"Landon, you went a bit too far with that joke just now. Dad is a broad-minded person, but you shouldn't say that." Landon looked at Ulysses with a serious tone.

"Who said I was joking? I was serious." Ulysses raised an eyebrow.

"Ulysses Brown." Landon's face suddenly turned unpleasant; his eyes cold.

"Why are you being mean to me? He was the one who said I would die. Don't look at me like that, I'll have nightmares tonight." Ulysses immediately became obedient, mumbling as he walked toward the dining room.

Landon's gaze softened again, sighing helplessly as he followed Ulysses.

"It seems like everyone has someone they can discipline. Landon has Ulysses under control with just a warning glance, and he immediately obeys," Landon remarked.

Simon imitated Landon, furrowing his brows and using his eyes skillfully. "Looks like I need to practice Landon's powerful gaze. Let’s see if Ulysses dares to be arrogant with me!"

Evelyn glanced at him disdainfully. "Stop practicing. Your eyes are already messed up."

Charlie was in an unusually good mood, his face flushed from drinking, one glass after another. Donna tried to advise Charlie several times, but to no avail.

Even though Charlie and Ulysses didn't communicate at all at the dining table, everyone could see that Charlie was genuinely excited that Ulysses had come to visit. When no one was looking, Charlie would gaze at Ulysses for several times as if he were the love of Charlie's life.

Ulysses keenly noticed these deep looks but avoided them.

In Charlie's heart, there was inevitably a bit of disappointment.

Evelyn was very observant, sensing these details sensitively, feeling a bit uncomfortable.

Evelyn knew that Ulysses still couldn't forgive Charlie in his heart, still resenting Charlie for not being able to love only Victoria for a lifetime.

The Taylor family's business was vast and extremely wealthy, with assets in the billions. Even if there were eight children, the wealth wouldn't be divided up.

Charlie, as the head of the KnightSpear Group, was handsome, charming, loyal, and righteous. He had survived numerous assassinations attempts in his youth and created miracles in the business world in middle age.

Charlie was close to perfection, but his only flaw was being unfaithful.

No one can be perfect, truly perfect.

Evelyn, like Ulysses in his youth, had cried, thrown tantrums, resented, and blamed, but now, Evelyn had almost come to terms with it.

Because it couldn't be changed, couldn't be let go, and couldn't be at ease.

Evelyn didn't seek Ulysses' forgiveness for Charlie, nor would she make excuses for Charlie's infidelity. Evelyn just hoped that Ulysses could overlook it all, stop feeling awkward, and slowly emerge from the shadows of his birth family.

As dinner was almost finished, Ulysses let out a satisfied burp.

"I mean it, the mistress, Joyce's cooking is really good. I've had three plates of rice tonight. I'll have to increase my exercise tomorrow," Ulysses commented.

"Ulysses, don't always call her 'mistress.' Joyce is also a pitiful woman." Evelyn said with a complex look, taking a sip of red wine.

"Even if she was pitiful before, she's proud now that she's with Charlie, Joyce is Charlie's fourth lover. How impressive that sounds." Ulysses squinted, his voice cold.

"Evelyn, shouldn't the most pitiful one be Victoria? When everyone in this big family is happy, when Charlie sleeps at Joyce's tonight and goes to Susan's tomorrow, does Charlie still have Victoria in his heart?"

Evelyn felt uncomfortable, her eyes dim. "Of course, I missed her every day. But Ulysses, Victoria is gone. As children, we must gradually learn to mature and learn to accept reality. We are the children of the Taylor family; we have to protect everything of the Taylor family. The living can only look forward."

"You can. I can't. I'm a child who is immersed in memories, never able to wake up. You are still the closest people to me, but this is no longer my home," Ulysses said.

Evelyn and Ulysses fell into a moment of oppressive silence.

"Alright, Evelyn, don't be upset. Whatever you decide, I will respect it. "Seeing Evelyn's eyes reddening, Ulysses quickly hugged her, soothing her with a gentle tone, "Let's not talk about this. Let me tell you something interesting, Edward is here."

"What?" Evelyn's heart raced, and she screamed in surprise!

Everyone was startled.

Charlie frowned and said, "Evelyn, what's wrong? Why are you so surprised?"

"I was telling Evelyn a horror story, didn't expect her to be so scared." Ulysses laughed and pulled Evelyn to sit down.

"Don't joke with me like that! This is scarier than a horror story!" Evelyn said angrily.

Ulysses explained, "If you don't believe it, go outside and check. Maybe Edward is still standing there. But don't worry, Edward probably doesn't know your true identity yet. He probably followed you and Landon's car all the way here."

As soon as he finished speaking, Evelyn's phone on the table vibrated.

Evelyn took a deep breath and slowly turned the phone over as if revealing a trump card.

The familiar string of numbers entered her eyes, and Evelyn's breath hitched. She hung up directly.

But the next second, Edward called again.

Seeing that Edward was not going to give up easily tonight, Evelyn could only stand up and hide in a corner to answer the phone.

"Hello." Evelyn lowered her voice.

"Are you feeling better of your wounded?" Edward's deep voice, accompanied by the chilly evening breeze, blew Evelyn's ear.

Evelyn's heart skipped a beat, she pressed her lips. "It's okay."

"I'm at the Oasis Villa gate. Come out." Edward's voice was as cold as ever, even a bit commanding.

Evelyn's chest surged with irritation. All of Edward's tenderness was given to Nicole. He was always so indifferent to Evelyn. Evelyn didn't owe Edward anything. There was no strings attached between Edward and Evelyn after the divorce, and Edward had no right to say such things to Evelyn now.

Evelyn didn't want to follow Edward's orders!

"Mr. Landon took me to the family banquet tonight. All the Taylor family members will be there. I can't leave." Evelyn responded with a colder attitude than Edward.

At that moment, Edward standing in the cold wind swayed, and it was as if a bomb had exploded in his ear.

'The Taylor family's family banquet?'

Just then, Edward clearly heard the happy laughter of the Taylor family members coming from the other end of the phone.

"Why are you standing here? Desserts are here. Come over and have some?" A woman's gentle urging voice.

"Okay, I'll be right there."

Edward heard Evelyn's smiling response, his pupils contracting, complex emotions swirling inside him.

The warmth that Evelyn was feeling at that moment was something Edward had never experienced in his life.

Edward had never received it, so how could he give it to Evelyn?

"Mr. Wellington, I can't talk right now, and I can't meet you tonight. Let's catch up on everything when I get back to Mugden. That's it," Evelyn said.

"Lily Brown!" Edward's voice was urgent.

Evelyn's breath deepened, Edward's overly intense call made Evelyn clench her fingers, as if Evelyn's slightly rough palm had tightly grasped Evelyn's wrist.

"Come out to see me, or I'll come in to meet you, you choose!" Edward took a deep breath, his limbs icy as if in an ice cave, but his mind was burning hot.

At that moment, Edward just really wanted to take Evelyn back home.
