Chapter 591 Brothers Quarrel, Regain a City

Randy stared hard at Gilbert's face - that expression of innocence and kindness performed to perfection - the rage rising from deep within almost impossible to hide!

Just as he was about to lose his temper, Calvin shot him a warning look. That cold, oppressive gaze cleared his head a bit.

In the car earlier, Calvin had suggested that the person behind this might not be Evelyn.

"If Evelyn wanted to get you, she would've done it when you were bullying Jennifer. Why would she wait until now?"

"Besides, the person who knows so much detail about your dirty business - apart from me, there's only one other person."

"Who? Who's trying to get me? I'll tear them to pieces!"

"Helen."

"Right... yes! That bitch... it must be that bitch! She must have ratted me out to reduce her sentence! I'll send someone in to take care of her!"

"Even if she knows about your business and turned you in, what can she do from prison? The police couldn't have collected such direct evidence on their own.

Obviously, someone worked with her from the outside to help her get revenge on you."

"Who? Who is it!" Randy seemed to know no other words, raging helplessly.

"Gilbert. It can't be anyone else. And I checked Helen's visitor records - during this time, only Gilbert went to see her! But right now, he's in Dad's good graces. Going head-to-head with him won't do us any good. Better to restore your standing with Dad first, lay low, and find another chance to get rid of him!"

"Wonderful! God bless the Alexander family - all three of my sons are here with me now!"

Elbert put his left arm around Randy and his right around Gilbert, immersed in the joy of reunion with tears in his eyes. "From now on, our family must stay united and harmonious, working together for the Alexander family. No more trouble! Calvin, you worked hard this time, but Gilbert deserves credit too - the stock market is stable and the Aurora Isle project is progressing smoothly. So I was thinking..."

"Dad, today is a double celebration for you. I have more good news to tell you." Calvin interrupted him with an arrogant expression.

Gilbert's eyes instantly clouded with cold hostility, though he showed no emotion.

"Oh? Calvin has more good news for me? Tell me quickly!" Elbert was in such a good mood that he completely overlooked this slight breach of etiquette.

"Bring it in."

At Calvin's call, the secretary waiting outside immediately entered with a document and respectfully handed it to Elbert.

Elbert took it with confusion, frowned as he opened it, then suddenly burst into delighted laughter:

"Excellent! Calvin! What kind of project did you negotiate? This is such a huge surprise!"

Gilbert's smile froze at the corners of his lips, his fists clenched tight beneath his elegant crystal cufflinks.

"Actually, I've been working on this project in secret for a long time, but it was always uncertain, so I didn't dare tell you. I was afraid that if something went wrong, I'd get your hopes up for nothing."

Calvin smiled like an honest, sincere person. "It wasn't until the contract was signed and everything was settled that I dared share this good news with you. You know how I am - I always do things methodically, not like Gilbert, who's so smooth-talking, saying whatever he wants, asking for whatever he wants."

"Ha, that's for sure. Gilbert used to be the most unruly one in the family. Now, after fifteen years away, he's come back to Dad as the most obedient and sensible child."

Randy joined in the mockery, his eyes full of contempt. "If only he'd shown this filial devotion earlier. Now it looks like he has ulterior motives. I'm just joking. I speak my mind directly - Gilbert, don't take it to heart."

Gilbert narrowed his phoenix eyes, a flash of hostility crossing them as he smiled. "Randy spent so long in detention and took so many strange medications - normally, his brain can't keep up with his mouth."

Randy ground his back teeth, wanting nothing more than to pounce on him and tear him apart!

"Oh, you've loved bickering since childhood, and you're still at it as adults. Harmony brings prosperity - can't you be like Charlie's kids and give me some peace?" Elbert was in such high spirits with his son released and the project secured that he didn't take anyone's words to heart.

"Gilbert, you're now a managing director of the Alexander Group. You must contribute more to the company. If you have any project issues, you can come directly to us. For the Alexander family, there's nothing we brothers can't discuss."

As he spoke, Calvin showed a benevolent smile, stepped forward, and patted his shoulder, saying earnestly, "Dad's getting old, and with all the recent troubles, he's clearly worn out. We need to let him rest. From now on, for work matters, just coordinate directly with me - no need to trouble Dad."

"Yes, Gilbert. Calvin is the CEO after all. You should learn more from him and communicate with him." Elbert echoed, clearly having restored his former regard for his eldest son.

Gilbert stared into Calvin's eyes, which concealed murderous intent like the dark barrels of guns, but in the next moment smiled with exceptional humility. "Calvin is indeed very capable. I have much to learn from you. I hope your project will have a good outcome."

...

Coming out of the study, Gilbert walked rapidly through the corridor, radiating hostile energy.

"Gilbert, why the rush? Dad just said we should all have dinner together as a family."

Calvin called after him, following at a leisurely pace.

"Do you really want to eat at the same table as me?" Gilbert turned around, his sidelong glance cold as a knife.

"Of course I do. Why wouldn't I?"

Calvin laughed, making no effort to hide his satisfaction at winning this round. "I really want to see you crushed by me again, grinding your teeth in frustration. I especially want to see the person you schemed so hard to frame sitting unharmed in front of you, and your disappointed expression when your careful plans come to nothing. That must be quite a sight."

"I'm afraid I'll have to disappoint you. I never waste my precious emotions on garbage people or garbage matters." Gilbert smiled, raising his pale, slender hand to adjust his glasses.

Calvin was in too good a mood after regaining favor to bother with such verbal sparring.

"Mr. Alexander!"

Just then, Curtis hurried over. He was about to speak when he noticed Calvin was there too and quickly shut his mouth.

"So, your subordinates call you Mr. Alexander?"

Calvin laughed mockingly. "Too bad there's only one Mr. Alexander at the Alexander Group, and that's me. But I'm a magnanimous person - if you want to fantasize about being me, I won't deny you that opportunity."

He pulled out a handkerchief and casually wiped the hand that had just patted Gilbert's shoulder. "You can be Mr. Alexander to those rats in your sewer!"

With that, Calvin tossed the handkerchief at his feet and strode away proudly.

Gilbert could ignore everything Calvin had said before.

But this last remark undoubtedly pierced his lungs. The chilling, murderous look couldn't be hidden even by his refined gold-rimmed glasses.

"Damn... arrogant bastard! Does he really think the Alexander family is his now?" Curtis fumed on Gilbert's behalf, spitting in disgust.

"How did Calvin suddenly get that Toronto resort project? Go find out what happened." Gilbert spoke through clenched teeth, his hoarse throat filled with heavy anger.

"Yes, Mr. Alexander."

Curtis pressed his lips together and pulled out a long, thin stainless steel sterilized case from his pocket, presenting it with both hands. "This is for you from the gentleman. It just arrived today."

Gilbert's heart contracted. He took it and gripped it fiercely in his palm.

"Also, the gentleman sent word that this medicine is extremely potent. He wants you to think carefully before using it."

"Got it." His voice carried a grim, desperate hoarseness.

"Mr. Alexander, ever since Calvin bit Ms. Taylor, tons of haters have appeared online attacking Ms. Taylor. The criticism is everywhere.Should I arrange for people to clean it up?" Curtis asked respectfully.

Gilbert's eyes turned bloodshot as he squeezed the steel case until it deformed.

After a long moment, he let out a heavy, stifled breath. "Don't bother."

Curtis looked shocked. "You... you're really not going to do anything?"

"Evelyn now seems to me like a noble, sacred goddess beyond desecration. I'm using all my strength, but still can't reach her. You'll never understand that kind of unreachable pain."

Gilbert closed his eyes, his heart in severe pain, as if his chest were an impenetrable cage and his heart a trapped beast in desperate straits, thrashing about but unable to break free from its shackles.

"Before, I wanted her to be well. But now I almost hope to taint her. If she's an untainted celestial being, I want to drag her down from her pedestal to wallow in the mud with me."

'Evelyn, I'm a venomous scorpion. A scorpion will kill the frog carrying it across the river - that's the scorpion's cruel nature.'

'But I will never kill you.'

'I will love you in my own way.'

Soon, Edward found the addresses of those two girls.

The next afternoon, with Bart driving, Evelyn and Edward went to meet with them one by one, hoping to persuade them to testify.

To avoid putting too much psychological pressure on the girls' families, they chose an ordinary, low-key black sedan.

Both wore simple business suits from head to toe. Edward looked fine - after all, his noble bearing and model physique were always there.

But Evelyn looked like a completely different person, as if she'd changed her skin. Her pretty face wore no makeup at all, plain and composed, looking exactly like a government official.

Yet even with unremarkable clothing, the young lady's natural beauty and innate confidence made her seem surrounded by a brilliant golden glow, deeply attracting heated male gazes.

"Hey, can you stop staring at me like that?"

In the car, after Edward had been staring at her intently for over ten minutes, Evelyn got goosebumps on her snowy skin and instinctively moved aside. "It's really kind of creepy and perverted."

Unable to restrain himself any longer, the man placed his palm on her waist and suddenly pulled. She lost her balance and fell into his arms.

"Evelyn, you're provoking me."

"I... I didn't do anything." Evelyn was completely confused, pressing her soft hands against his chest.

"This uniform look of yours is very provocative to me."

Edward's eyes suddenly deepened, his heartbeat flickering like candlelight. He grabbed her chin and was about to kiss her.

Though she showed no skin and wore only black and white, in his eyes, she was radiant with spring colors, an absolute beauty.

"Don't... Edward, we're here to handle serious business. I'm really not in the mood right now." Evelyn pressed her fingertips against his thin lips, her expression consistently gloomy.

"Sorry, Evelyn."

Edward was full of guilt, sighing. "It's my fault. I'm being too inappropriate."

"Exactly. You used to be so aloof, but now... hmph, you're so horny." Evelyn pouted coquettishly.

The man's eyes crinkled. "Do you want me to go back to how I was?"

"Can you?"

"Of course... not."

Edward's warm breath brushed past her ear as his palm covered the back of her neck, gently kneading. "Once you've left the monastery, there's no going back to those days of restraint and abstinence."

Evelyn bit her lip, her face flushing red, her ear tips also turning crimson.

Just then, Bart hit the brakes, and the black sedan stopped in front of an old residential building.
