Chapter 18 The Female CEO's Counterattack

The next day, Evelyn woke up and vomited again.

"Evelyn, I remember you used to have a good tolerance for alcohol. How did your tolerance become so low now?" Simon said, handing her water to rinse her mouth.

"I haven't drunk for three years. Suddenly drinking so much, I definitely can't handle it!" Evelyn knew Edward didn't like women who smelled of alcohol, so she quit drinking during their three years of marriage.

"I know you've had too much to drink, but people who don't know would think you're pregnant," Simon teased her.

"Well, if I really were pregnant with Edward's child, what would you guys do?" Evelyn's eyes were filled with a subtle and barely perceptible sadness.

"What can we do? Of course, we would help take care of him and raise him. Regardless of who the child's father is, he is innocent."

Although Simon loathed Edward, he was very upright, probably due to his professional ethics as a legal professional.

"Don't worry. Edward doesn't deserve it!" Evelyn sneered and sipped water to moisten her throat.

Simon asked, "By the way, do you remember what happened last night?"

"I remember I caused trouble with Dick, and Edward seemed to have come? Then I don't remember."

"Do you really not remember?"

"I think I even saw a handsome gentleman. Did he come over to help me out? Ah, I was too drunk at the time. Otherwise, I definitely would have exchanged contact information with him."

"That was Eric Clark. We went to the club he just opened last night."

Eric was a troublemaker. As soon as Evelyn heard his name, she lost interest. "Forget it. That guy's kidneys wouldn't even fetch enough for an iPhone. Even a dog wouldn't give him a second glance."

"Do you know that Edward dragged you into the men's restroom later?"

Evelyn widened her eyes in shock.

"I don't know what you two did. When I entered, you were holding onto him and wiping your nose with his body," Simon shook his head repeatedly, reluctant to reminisce.

Evelyn took a sharp breath of air.

"Evelyn, if I hadn't arrived in time to take you away, he might have..."

"He wouldn't. Edward isn't like Eric." Evelyn irritably massaged her temples.

"And now you're defending him!"

"I'm not defending him. Besides being cold and unfeeling, unromantic, and hating me, he's still a decent person." After finishing her sentence, Evelyn couldn't help but feel sad.

"Well, Scumbag Edward was acting strangely last night. He actually asked me if I would marry you. He also told me not to treat you as a lover, saying you couldn't handle the game of love as a girl from an ordinary family."

Simon smiled mockingly. "Don't you think he's a bit bored and likes to meddle in other people's business? Has he taken care of his affairs?"

"Hold on. Why did he bring this up out of nowhere with you?"

"I just went with the flow, pretended to be Landon, and told him to stay away from my woman. Hmph, he got angry." Simon was very pleased with himself.

"Damn it! I'll kill you!" Evelyn became furious and punched Simon's handsome face.

William prepared a delicious and light breakfast. He knew Evelyn had gotten drunk, so he specifically made corn soup.

Evelyn wore a pale pink silk slip dress and let down her hair as she came down for breakfast. Although she was wearing underwear underneath, her dress was still too revealing and sexy.

Upon seeing her, William immediately blushed and quickly averted his gaze, not daring to look closely.

"Hey! You still have young men in your house. Can you consider our feelings?" Simon put an ice pack on his swollen cheek and made a disgusted expression.

"I've been wearing white dresses and sneakers for three years, and I'm sick of it. Now I wear whatever I want. If I feel like it, I'll go streaking in the middle of the night. Who can stop me?" Evelyn rolled her eyes and took a bite of her bread.

"Why could you only wear white dresses and sneakers for three years? Ms. Taylor, did you go to teach in a rural village? Will you corrupt the future generation of our country?" William asked seriously.

"It's none of your business," Evelyn and Simon said in unison.

Evelyn put on exquisite makeup and wore a white suit dress with Jimmy Choo shoes. She transformed herself into a beautiful female executive once again as she headed to the hotel, despite her throbbing headache.

Sitting in her office, Evelyn recalled her conversation with Simon that morning, feeling a bit conflicted.

She thought to herself, ‘Edward helped me out last night and said those things to Simon. Does he really care about me?’

‘Ha, how is that possible? He only saw the former 'maid' by his side suddenly change and follow a new master, which stirred up his inherent selfishness and possessiveness.’

‘I won't fall in love with the same terrible man twice!’

Just then, Taylor's Secret Bureau received some new information.

Landon said, [Evelyn, the rumors about you from yesterday afternoon have been retracted. Those accounts that defamed you have been deleted.]

Landon added, [It was Edward who did it.]

Evelyn replied, [Oh, I'm really grateful to him.]

Ulysses replied, [Haha, does he think deleting it will solve the problem? He's so naive.]

Aaron replied, [The stock price of the Wellington Group had only a slight fluctuation when the stock market opened this morning. It's a shame!]

Simon replied, [Evelyn! Even if we can't deal with him temporarily, we can still take care of the Adams family first!]

Evelyn replied, [Of course. I'll seek revenge from morning till night.]

"William, come in for a moment," Evelyn called out to the landline.

William quickly entered. "Ms. Taylor, do you have any orders?"

"I requested that you prepare the materials and evidence. Are you prepared?" Evelyn rested her hands on the armrest, leisurely spinning her chair.

"The materials are all prepared. We can report to the relevant departments at any time."

"No, let's not rush," Evelyn said, crossing her legs. Her skin glistened in the sunlight. "First, find some media outlets closely related to the KnightSpear Group, like Hameen News. Expose the information in detail and create a strong buzz before taking any further action."

"But wouldn't involving the media complicate things? Can't we report it directly and catch the Adams Group off guard?" William expressed his confusion.

"I am someone who values ceremonial aspects. When I catch prey, I don't just kill it with one blow. I want to torture and drain it slowly," Evelyn said, gently stroking the gemstone bracelet given to her by Byron, her gaze cold and ruthless.

Most importantly, once this matter is exposed, the Adams Group will face difficulties. In their capacity as Bray and Dick, they are not even worthy of speaking to her. So, Nicole will have no choice but to seek Edward's help.

"Edward, I can't wait to see the panic on your face when your fiancée is in trouble."

That night, when internet traffic was at its peak, a piece of news quietly appeared, but within an hour, its popularity skyrocketed!

"Breaking News! KnightSpear Group Terminates All Collaboration with the Adams Group due to Serious Quality Issues"

"Substandard? Cutting Corners? Quality Concerns Surround the Adams Group's Home Furnishings Product Eilie Furniture"

Due to the sudden nature of the incident and the chaotic and unprofessional handling by the group's public relations department, they were unable to control the direction of public opinion and delete all the negative comments.

[The Adams Group? Isn't that the family of Edward's fiancée? They're causing trouble for the Wellington family right before their wedding, aren't they?]

[I thought Edward's bride came from some wealthy elite family. Turns out, her family sells furniture, and they're shady too!]

[While I don't want to bring personal matters into this, this kind of thing is really annoying.]

[Oh my goodness! I just ordered Eilie Furniture for my new house. I have to return it tomorrow. What a hassle!]

In his study, Edward listened to Bart's report on all the negative news about the Adams Group and felt a headache coming on.

"The Taylor family is the wealthiest in Hameen and dominates almost every industry they enter. If the KnightSpear Group leads the charge against the Adams Group, it's like drawing a sharp sword. No one dares to defy them."

Bart sneered and showed no sympathy for the Adams Group. He only made sarcastic remarks to enjoy the spectacle: "Luckily, the Adams Group is not a listed company. Otherwise, their stock price would have plummeted, and they would have suffered heavy losses when the stock market opened in the morning. Your father-in-law already has high blood pressure, and he is also stingy. He might have fainted from anger..."

Edward raised his cold white eyelids and stared sharply at Bart.

Bart was scared and secretly stuck out his tongue, not daring to speak recklessly.

"There is no evidence to support this news. Maybe it's just a rumor."

Edward took a deep breath, his gaze darkened. "How did this quality issue come up?"

"I heard that KnightSpear Group recently appointed a new female executive, who took the lead in canceling the cooperation with the Adams Group in their KS World Hotel in Mugden."

"And within a week, all the hotels under KnightSpear Group immediately followed suit, canceling the cooperation and replacing all the Adams Group's products."

"How could the power of just a hotel manager be so great? This is impossible."

"Because she is Evelyn Taylor, the daughter of KnightSpear Group's chairman, Charlie Taylor."

Evelyn?

Edward's eyes deepened.

Although the name was unfamiliar, it gave him a strangely familiar feeling.
