Chapter 88 The Shameless Ex-Husband Pays a Visit

A few minutes later, Edward pulled up outside Evelyn's villa. He rolled down the window, staring at the warm lights inside. The thought of Eric alone with Lily made his chest tighten.

Edward's brows furrowed as he clutched his phone, sweaty hand and all. On the screen was a picture of Lily in a silky, sexy nightgown, her figure barely hidden. She used to wear loose white cotton dresses that hid everything. Now, post-divorce, she had transformed into a sexy woman.

Edward's chest heaved as he looked at the photo, tugging at his tie. Heat surged through him.

Meanwhile, Eric looked pale as he faced Evelyn.

"Aren't you going to eat? It won't taste good if it's cold," Evelyn said casually.

Suddenly, the doorbell rang.

"Why is it so busy tonight? I'll check," William said, heading to the foyer and pressing the intercom.

Edward's handsome face appeared on the screen, making William step back in shock.

"I'm here to see Lily," Edward said.

"William, who is it?" Evelyn and Eric came out, both stunned to see Edward on the screen.

"How did he know? Did you tell him?" Evelyn snapped at Eric.

"Lily, I had no choice. Edward threatened me! He said if I didn't tell him where you lived, he'd cut ties with me. He also said..."

"Said what?" Evelyn interrupted.

"He said he'd delay the divorce. As long as you two aren't divorced, neither Landon nor I can be with you."

'Edward, you shameless bastard!' Evelyn's eyes reddened with anger. She pulled William behind her and spoke coldly, "Who allowed you to show up here? Leave now, or I'll call security!"

"Lily, come out," Edward said, his tone irritated.

Evelyn sneered, "Who are you to tell me to come out?"

"Eric, come out," Edward called, his eyes red.

"No," Eric said, scared of Edward's skills.

"Eric!"

"Eric is my guest. He brought me a gift, and I accepted it. I won't kick him out," Evelyn said coldly. "Edward, you're not welcome here. Leave!"

Edward's eyes burned, and just as he was about to speak, Evelyn turned off the intercom. The screen went black, but Edward's angry eyes lingered in her mind.

'How dare he use the divorce to threaten me? How shameless can you be? Do you think you can keep threatening me with the divorce?' she murmured to herself.

"Lily, I'm sorry," Eric said, uneasy. "It's all my fault. I shouldn't have told him."

"It's not your fault," Evelyn said, taking a deep breath. Her fists cracked. "It's all Edward's fault for being shameless! He doesn't want me to have a single good day!"

Eric, usually proud in front of women, felt a sense of panic seeing Evelyn lose her temper.

Outside, thunder and lightning signaled an impending storm.

"Let's go back inside and keep eating. Ignore him," Evelyn said angrily, turning away.

Soon, the rain poured down.

Evelyn and Eric sat by the floor-to-ceiling window, drinking coffee and chatting.

"Honestly, I used to have some prejudices against you. Before I got to know you, I didn't realize you were such an interesting person. And you're kinder than I thought," Evelyn said sincerely, sipping her coffee.

"Lily! Did you just call me kind? Did I hear that right?!" Eric was so excited he could barely speak. "Lily, I'm so touched. I'll remember your compliment forever. I'll even have it engraved on my tombstone!"

"Stop it," Evelyn said with a faint smile.

"Lily, if—I'm just saying if—you had met me before you married Edward, would you have liked me? Would you have given me a chance?" Eric leaned in closer, taking his shot.

He knew he wasn't exactly a good guy, but for her, he had the first thought of being devoted to one woman.

"No," Evelyn answered decisively.

It felt like a bucket of cold water drenched Eric. "Why not?"

"Without Edward, I wouldn't love anyone. After leaving Edward, I won't love anyone else," Evelyn said, looking at the rain on the window, her face as somber as the dark night sky.

Her bond with Edward, from their first meeting to their marriage and then divorce, had lasted thirteen years. She had given Edward her most passionate feelings, her brightest smiles, and her most devoted waiting. She simply didn't have the strength to love anyone else.

Some people's hearts still beat, but they were already empty.

Eric stared blankly at Evelyn's sorrowful profile, his heart aching.

'Evelyn was only twenty-four, but the desolation in her eyes and her despair towards love made her seem like an old woman. Edward, you bastard!'

"Miss Taylor!" William hurried over.

Evelyn snapped out of her daze, her eyes still a bit vacant.

"Come, look outside."

William led Evelyn to another corridor, standing by the window. "Look! Has Edward gone mad?!"

Evelyn looked out, and her pupils shrank sharply!

Edward stood by his black sports car, his black tie fluttering in the wind, his hair disheveled by the storm. He was drenched, but even so, his eyes remained bright, his posture straight as a sword planted in the ground, unmoved by the raging storm and lightning!

"Is he out of his mind? Standing in the rain? Does he think playing the victim will make you look at him more favorably?" William wanted to rush out and beat him up.

Evelyn's heart tightened, forcing out a cold laugh. "If he wants to stand, let him. It's time to see if he's a douchebag."

At that moment, her phone rang.

Edward's name blazed on the screen. After hesitating for a moment, she answered. "Edward, have you had enough?!"

"Come out, I want to say something to you," Edward's deep, magnetic voice wasn't drowned out by the storm.

"I have nothing to say to you!"

Just then, a purple lightning bolt struck down, scaring Evelyn's face pale!
