Chapter 12 Ex-husband Announces the Engagement!
Evelyn gave William a signal.
He understood and went to open the door.
"Ms. Taylor! Ms. Taylor!"
Mike, who made a mistake yesterday, barged in from outside the door. He was so fast that William couldn't stop him!
Evelyn coldly looked at Mike rushing to her desk.
"Mr. Golden, why are you still here? I have already approved your resignation procedures. You can go find another job."
"Ms. Taylor! You can't do this to me! I have been working for this hotel for almost twenty years!"
"I have devoted all my energy and sacrificed everything for the hotel. I even got sick because of it. Even your father can't easily fire me. How can you dismiss me like this?" Mike, sweating profusely, shouted with a red face.
"I have reviewed all the hotel's high-level documents. You do have an illness. Fatty liver and gallbladder polyps. It seems that the hotel treatment is really good." Evelyn sneered, sending shivers down Mike's spine.
Mike sensed the irony in her words and trembled in fear. "I really didn't know about Eilie Furniture selling inferior beds to our hotel! For the past three years, Eilie Furniture has been cooperating with us. Their price is reasonable. It's also a well-known brand in Mugden, so that's why I..."
Before he could finish speaking, Evelyn threw a document at Mike's feet with a loud thud.
"This is a detailed account of all the transactions between the hotel and Eilie Furniture over the past three years. You oversee the finance department. Can't you see the numerous inconsistencies in this financial report?" Mike nervously picked up the files and flipped through them. The pages felt hot in his hands, like burning coals.
"And I also received an anonymous report," Evelyn casually lifted her coffee cup and took a sip, coldly staring at Mike. "Someone has accused you of having close ties with Eilie Furniture and receiving substantial kickbacks, which is why you made bulk purchases of their inferior bedding products."
Mike's teeth chattered with fear. He could barely stand steady.
"If there is no evidence, I will not unjustifiably dismiss anyone. But I do have evidence in my hands, and I will not be lenient with anyone. Mr. Golden, if you still have any objections, we can settle this matter through legal means."
"Ms. Taylor, I was wrong! It was a moment of impulse, and I made a mistake! Please forgive me this once! If this gets out, I won't be able to make a living in Mugden!" Mike begged Evelyn pitifully, almost on the verge of tears. "It was Eilie Furniture who approached me first, offering me a path to wealth! Mr. Adams came up with the ideas!"
"I thought all mattresses were more or less the same, so I didn't think too much about it, and that's how I fell into his trap!"
Evelyn chuckled at his words.
Mike had been a deputy manager in the hotel industry for twenty years. In order to protect himself, he began to pretend to be clueless.
"Alright, Mr. Golden, you know best about the specifics. If you have time to talk nonsense with me, you should go back and submit a few more resumes. William, show him out!"
Mike felt extremely defeated. William escorted him out like a beaten dog.
Outside the office, Mike's attitude immediately changed, and he spat contemptuously.
"Bitch! Let's see how this plays out! I won't just let it go like this!"
Although Evelyn was gentle and generous, she was still furious about the bribery and inaction within the hotel.
"Mike seems to have quite a bad reputation in the hotel. As soon as you want to deal with him, informers emerge!" William exclaimed excitedly as if a great revenge had been avenged.
"No one reported him."
"What? Are you deceiving him?"
"Eh."
Evelyn replied casually as she opened a game, ready to vent her frustration as a butcher. "If he hadn't done anything wrong, he wouldn't be afraid. But no one has reported him yet. I deceived him for a bit, and he confessed everything."
William couldn't help but applaud her. She was truly cunning. "Mike has been working with Eilie Furniture for three years. It seems he has embezzled a lot. We should really take him to court and make him return everything he gained."
"I showed him some mercy; it could lead to fewer enemies down the road. If I go too far, it might stir up discontent among the other top executives at the hotel, and they could scheme against me. Moreover, Mike was once promoted by Charlie, my father; I don't want to make him too uncomfortable."
While chasing someone in the game with a large axe, Evelyn lazily said, "During this time, have someone keep a close eye on Mike. If he contacts Nicole's brother again, report to me immediately."
"Yes, Ms. Taylor!"
Just then, Evelyn's phone kept ringing. Messages were continuously popping up in a chat group.
"William! I'm busy now. Help me see who sent the messages," Evelyn said as she focused on playing the game.
William hurried over and opened the phone. "Ah, it's a chat group called 'Taylor Secret Bureau.' Your brothers have sent you messages."
Simon created this group, which consisted of Evelyn and her four brothers. It was called the Taylor Secret Bureau because they had to keep the news of her marriage to Edward a secret, and it must not be leaked to the public.
Evelyn was shocked. She stopped playing the game and quickly snatched the phone.
After all, William didn't know about her getting married and divorced again. The fewer people knew about it, the better. Otherwise, if Charlie finds out, it will be troublesome!
Simon said, "Damn it! I can't fucking stand it anymore! Is Edward trying to hurt Evelyn? He's gone too far!"
Evelyn's brother Aaron Brown replied, "I'll check if The Wellington Group has any recent illegal activities. If so, I'll try to bankrupt them within a month."
Ulysses Brown, Evelyn's brother, replied, "I'll try to break Edward's hands and feet within a week."
Landon said, "Amen."
Evelyn asked, "Stop! What's going on, my brothers?!"
A few seconds later, Simon sent a Twitter link.
Simon said, "Scumbag Edward has already announced the marriage news. Not only that, but a blogger has exposed you as a third party. They say that you ruined Scumbag Edward's relationship with his lover, slept with him, and forced him to marry you, causing him to separate from his lover!"
Ulysses replied, "Huh, separate? Shall I separate them by death?"
Landon advised, "Ulysses, do not fret because of evildoers; do not be envious of wrongdoers. For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green plants."
Landon continued, "Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil."
Simon replied, "Landon, stop talking. If you keep going, we'll have holy halos on top of our heads."
Ulysses said, "Evelyn, in half an hour, I will delete all news that is unfavorable to you. The popular topic of Edward's remarriage will also be withdrawn."
Evelyn protested, "No, Ulysses."
Evelyn said, "Let the storm come even stronger."
Simon responded with a question mark expression.
Evelyn explained, "Because this has nothing to do with me. Edward's ex-wife is Lily, and I am Evelyn, the daughter of the Taylor family."
Simon replied, "Exactly! You haven't made any public appearances with Edward in the past three years. No one outside has seen you, let alone discover anything about you. This completely won't affect you!"
Evelyn said, "But some ignorant woman is going to have a headache because of this."
She smiled coldly.
She thought, 'Edward, you have the person you love in your heart. I will fulfill your wish for you two to be together forever. But if your woman wants to frame me, don't blame me for fighting back and causing her big trouble!'
The sudden exposure of the wedding news caught the Wellington Group off guard!
The PR department and Bart's phone were bombarded with calls from the media. The news caused a sensation in Mugden and even the whole country.
Firstly, Edward was getting married.
Secondly, he was getting married for the second time!
He wasgetting married and divorced too quickly.
Was this a real flash marriage and flash divorce?
"The first to release the wedding news was the Mugden Daily. I heard that Ms. Adams personally went to their president before the news was released.
Bart stared at his phone without taking his eyes off it. "The topic is already trending on Twitter with over a million retweets, but the number one topic is 'Who is Edward's ex-wife?' Mrs. Wellington is being heavily criticized..."
"Fire them!" Edward's handsome face turned as cold as ice, his eyes gloomy.
The Wellington Group held a controlling stake in the Mugden Daily. In Mugden, this media was their mouthpiece.
"Who do you want to fire?"
"Fire everyone who had anything to do with this news!"
"Yes! But what about the online public opinion? It may be beyond control..."
Bart couldn't help but worry. "Ah, what would Mrs. Wellington think when she sees this? She must be very upset..."
Edward became somewhat anxious. He immediately picked up his phone and dialed Landon's number.
He thought, 'Damn it! I'm starting to get used to making this call. Maybe some people even think I have a secret crush on Landon!'
And at that moment, Nicole's name suddenly appeared on the screen.
Edward couldn't help but frown, feeling a bit annoyed.
