Chapter 435: I Am Yours
Through the thin fabric, Evelyn could still clearly feel the beautiful shape of Edward's thin lips, the burning temperature, and the intense affection.
The small fists that had landed on his shoulders couldn't help but loosen, gradually clinging to him. Her tense and stiff waist also slowly softened, obediently melting into his palm.
The onlookers walked away; after all, watching a couple get intimate made them feel a bit embarrassed.
Their lips slowly parted, but Edward's gaze at Evelyn was still thick with emotion.
"You, you're too bold."
Evelyn, already wearing a mask and having kissed for so long, was now breathing heavily, her eyes filled with a mix of blame and affection. "Who told you to kiss me?"
"I kissed you because I wanted to. I didn't think too much about it." Edward smiled contentedly, reaching out to tidy her slightly messy hair.
"What if someone finds out?"
"They won't. If they had, they would have noticed when they first came in."
He also had a possessive streak, especially when it came to Evelyn, whom he loved deeply. How could he remain indifferent and not declare his sovereignty when others spoke about her?
Evelyn, being smart, understood his little thoughts.
So she playfully pouted and teased him, "If you suddenly do this, what if others mistake us for a couple?"
Edward's eyes deepened, staring at her intently for a moment, then he leaned in to whisper in her ear, his mischievous lips brushing against her earlobe, "I didn't kiss you to let others know you're mine. I did it to tell them that I am yours."Evelyn's heart raced, her face blushing under the mask.
So she just playfully punched his chest, and let it go.
At that moment, Evelyn's phone rang.
Just a few seconds later, Edward's phone also rang in perfect sync.
They each turned around to answer their calls.
"Hello? Peter?"
"Evelyn, Kimberly's autopsy is complete, and everything is ready. The funeral is tomorrow," Peter said in a low voice.
Evelyn took a deep breath and nodded, "Got it."
"Additionally, Landon and Simon have persuaded her grandmother to stay at Hameen's nursing home. She chose it herself. Mugden is where Kimberly passed away, and she didn't want to stay there, which is understandable."
"Moreover, Hameen is by the sea, with better climate conditions than Mugden. It's also on our turf, making it easier to take care of her."
"Yes, I also think Hameen is the best place. Thank you for your hard work."
Evelyn's eyes were filled with sorrow. "I'll attend Kimberly's funeral tomorrow morning. But I hope the funeral will be low-key, not to alarm the media and scare her."
"Understood. The police have already sealed off the case, and Landon has used KS's influence to suppress the news. Don't worry, Evelyn, with us here, you won't have to worry about a thing."
Meanwhile, as soon as Edward answered the phone, Eric's loud voice bombarded him, almost bursting his eardrums!
"Edward! We have a lead on Lloyd! He smuggled into Torontow and landed last night!"
"Follow him closely, don't lose him!" Edward's heart tightened, and he lowered his voice, "What about the police? Have they arrived in Torontow?"
"They haven't yet; my people got there first!"
"Alright, tomorrow, you're coming with me to Toronto!" Edward's eyes were bloodshot, his anger burning.
"What? So sudden!" Eric was stunned.
"If you can't bear to leave Molly, find someone to coordinate with me. I'll go myself."
"No, no, if you're going, of course, I'll go with you. The biggest regret of my life is not going to war with you back then!"
"And another one is letting Jessica come back from Yatuok!"
Thinking of Jessica, Eric couldn't help but slap his thigh in frustration.
"In any case, I want to catch Lloyd before the police do."
They both hung up almost simultaneously.
"Tomorrow morning, let's attend Kimberly's funeral," Evelyn said, her eyes slightly red.
"Yes, let's go together."
Edward thought for a moment, then, like a husband about to go on a business trip, wrapped his arms around Evelyn's waist, pulling her slowly into his embrace.
"Evelyn, tomorrow the Wellington Group has an important project to discuss. As the CEO, I must be there. I'll be on a business trip for a few days."
"How many days?" Evelyn's breath hitched.
"Five days, maybe ten?"
Edward felt terrible inside. Even though he knew it was a well-intentioned lie, he still felt guilty for deceiving the person he loved most.
Evelyn's beautiful eyes flickered, "Where to?"
"Yatuok." He made up a place on the spot, feeling a bit guilty under Evelyn's probing gaze.
"Alright, safe travels." Evelyn's expression remained calm.
Suddenly, Edward hugged her tightly, filled with reluctance. "Evelyn, wait for me to come back."
Evelyn didn't respond to his words, just slowly raised her slender arms to return his embrace.
It spoke more than a thousand words.
The night was foggy, the cold moon like a hook.
Although it was early spring, the continuous rain kept the temperature low.
"Tomorrow morning, the Wellington family's maid will be buried."
In the lavishly decorated room of the Rose Club, Gilbert sat on the sofa with his long legs crossed, his back to Curtis, swirling a glass of red wine.
"Oh."
"Ms. Taylor will go. After all, Kimberly died taking a bullet for her. If Ms. Taylor goes, how could Edward not go?"
Curtis took a step closer, tentatively asking, "Will you attend?"
"Just a maid. Even if she saved Evelyn's life, there's no need to make such a big deal out of it."
Gilbert elegantly sipped his wine, his eyes behind the glasses cold and mocking. "If she hadn't taken the bullet for Evelyn, she would always have been a lowly maid."
"But now it's different. Because of her wise choice, she has become Evelyn's savior. With Evelyn's kindness, she will always remember her, and her family will be well taken care of because of her sacrifice. In every way, dying was more worthwhile."
Curtis listened silently, cold sweat running down his back.
Gilbert had this ability to make absurd, outrageous statements sound so reasonable and justified.
Gilbert's cruelty was subtle.
He always wore a gentle smile, making you feel comfortable and warm when you first met him. But all of this was on the condition that you didn't provoke him, didn't touch his possessions, or even covet them.
Otherwise, he would turn on you in an instant, striking your vital points without warning, not only killing you but making your death extremely painful.
Gilbert finished his wine, his eyes deep and filled with melancholy.
He didn't go, not because he didn't want to. He hadn't seen Evelyn in a long time, and he missed her, missed her so much that he couldn't eat or sleep, his soul restless.
But if he went without notice, it would only increase her dislike for him.
He had already lost to Edward once; he couldn't afford to lose again.
At that moment, the door to the room slowly opened.
Sarah walked in with her head lowered, holding a manila envelope.
"Mr. Alexander, the people you sent have brought something back."
