Chapter 210 Three Consecutive Slaps!
Evelyn didn't have time to dry her hair, so she threw on a cashmere coat over her nightgown, wet hair and all, and drove her Bugatti to the KS World Hotel.
On the way, she hesitated but finally called Edward, who was on a business trip in Hewston, 60 miles from Mugden.
The Wellington Group had purchased a piece of land in the suburbs to build a hot spring resort, which was still under construction.
Edward and Bart, wearing hard hats, were at the construction site checking progress with the project manager.
As Bart held a flashlight for him to check the blueprints, Edward's phone rang.
Edward frowned impatiently and pulled out his phone. Evelyn's name flashed on the screen.
His breath caught, heart pounded, and his hand trembled slightly.
"It's Mrs. Wellington!" Bart exclaimed excitedly.
"I know, calm down," Edward said, trying to stay cool as he answered. But his cold, stiff fingers and excitement made him accidentally hang up.
Bart shouted, "Edward! Why'd you hang up on Mrs. Wellington? She wouldn't call for no reason. What if something's wrong?"
Edward was flustered, cursing his clumsy hand. Luckily, Evelyn called again immediately.
"Hello," he answered, his voice a bit hoarse.
"Oh, you answered," Evelyn said, her tone sarcastic.
"If you call, of course, I'll answer," Edward replied sincerely.
"Edward, don't act all nice. We were married for three years. I know you. This isn't the first time you've hung up on me," Evelyn sneered.
Edward was puzzled. "I hung up on you? When? I've never done that."
"Enough. I'm not here to dig up old grudges," Evelyn said coldly. "I'm telling you to prepare for your buddy's funeral in the next few days."
"What happened to Eric? Did he bully you?" Edward's expression turned icy.
"If he bullied me, he'd be a ghost in the East Side Cemetery! It's Molly!" Evelyn fumed. "Eric got Molly drunk and took her to my hotel. William saw the whole thing!"
"What?" Edward was stunned, then shook his head. "Eric isn't like that."
Evelyn laughed. "He buddies up with you, what else could he be?"
"Evelyn," Edward said, his tone full of helpless reproach.
"I'm on my way to KS World now. I hope Eric still has some humanity left, or I'll beat him to death!" Evelyn's voice was urgent. "I'll keep this quiet to protect Molly's reputation. You need to come right now. I'll get Molly out, and you take her home safely! Don't alert anyone else!"
She hung up decisively, not wasting another word.
Edward stared at the darkened screen, lips pursed in frustration. He remembered when they were married, Evelyn often called for no reason. He didn't find it annoying then, but he was indifferent to her.
'I've never hung up on her. Is she remembering wrong?' he thought.
"Molly's in trouble. I need to get back to Mugden immediately," Edward said, half-believing Evelyn but feeling he had to check.
"Now?" Bart looked at his watch, troubled. "Hewston is 60 miles from Mugden! The highway's under construction. You won't make it in time. Why not notify Tiffany? Molly is her daughter after all."
"Evelyn's already on her way. Molly should be fine with her, but I need to help clean up the mess," Edward said, deep in thought. "There's a helicopter on the top floor of the Wellington family's department store in Hewston, right?"
"There is, but where are we going to find a pilot at this hour?" Bart asked, stumped.
Edward squinted, cracking his knuckles. "I'll do it."
In Mugden, it was close to midnight. The parking lot echoed with the screeching sound of tires. William watched as Evelyn made a thrilling drift, her Bugatti fishtailing smoothly into a parking spot.
William's lips curled up in pride.
Evelyn stepped out of the car, her body exuding a damp mist, her eyes blazing with anger. "Which room is Eric in?" she demanded.
"The presidential suite on the top floor," William replied, worried. "They just went in. There's only one suite up there, so you won't disturb other guests."
"Got it."
A few minutes later, Evelyn, radiating fierce anger, her sharp high heels clicking, arrived at the door of the presidential suite. William followed closely, feeling like she was here to catch someone in the act.
"Open it."
"Yes, Evelyn."
William used a master key card to open the door. Evelyn kicked it open with such force it almost put a hole in the thick door.
"Eric! Get out here!" Evelyn shouted.
Eric leisurely walked out, his bangs dripping, his muscular upper body bare, and a towel loosely wrapped around his waist. William gasped, fearing the towel might fall off.
"Evelyn? Is it really you?" Eric's eyes lit up with excitement. "Oh my, you came without telling me. I would've at least put on some clothes. Although I look better without them," he smirked.
Evelyn, furious, smiled coldly and approached him. Eric only saw a white flash before three crisp slaps echoed through the suite. She moved so fast he didn't even react before his face was slapped three times.
Eric stared at her in shock, both angry and aggrieved. "Evelyn, you hit me. You actually hit me!"
Eric's cheeks were swollen and burning, completely numb. William, behind Evelyn, was also stunned but more worried about her hand.
"Do I need to pick a day to hit you?" Evelyn's blood boiled, clenching her aching palm. "Didn't I tell you, Molly may not be related to me by blood, but she's my most beloved sister! Aren't the women around you enough? Why did you have to go after Molly? Do you find your friend's sister new and exciting?"
"No, Evelyn, listen to me!" Eric was so anxious his mouth was dry, but she didn't give him a chance to explain.
"Eric, I really misjudged you. Your heart is filthy!"
Evelyn's words "filthy" pierced Eric's heart, overwhelming him with grievance, his eyes turning red.
"Eric, what did you do to Molly?" A deep, cold voice suddenly cut through the tension.
Evelyn turned abruptly, seeing Edward, dusty and hurried, striding in. In the blink of an eye, he was beside her, glancing at her lightly.
Evelyn frowned, looking Edward up and down. 'Why does he look so disheveled?' she thought.
"Edward! Evelyn slapped me three times and called me filthy!" Eric cried out, feeling even more aggrieved. "I'm innocent! Aren't you going to do something about her?"
Edward's eyes deepened as he turned to the still-angry Evelyn. "I can't control her, never could."
