Chapter 554 The Mastermind, It Really Is Him!

Eric saw Ulysses appear, and every hair on his body stood on end!

"Mr. Clark... I'm sorry!" Ellen gasped, looking at Eric with guilt in her eyes.

Eric's Adam's apple bobbed as he urgently shouted, "Don't do anything rash! Ulysses wouldn't stoop so low as to hit a woman!"

"So, what? I should just stand here and let this woman beat me to death?"

Ulysses yawned lazily, "Am I that pathetic?"

One sentence, and Eric was left speechless.

He knew Ellen's personality and skills well. She was fiercely loyal to him, and anyone who tried to offend him would face her wrath.

"But you're right, I don't hit women."

Ulysses let go of Ellen's hand and raised an eyebrow mischievously, "You should be grateful you're a woman. Otherwise, I would have broken your arm."

"Bastard!"

Ellen, strong-willed by nature, couldn't tolerate such humiliation. She glared and raised her fist to fight again, but Eric shouted sternly.

"Ellen! Don't do anything rash! He's Ms. Taylor's brother!"

Ellen froze, her fist still in the air.

The man in front of her, wild and untamed like a wolf, was Evelyn's brother, a member of the Taylor family.

Ulysses stuck his tongue out playfully at the stunned Ellen, then turned his cold gaze to Eric.

"Evelyn and Edward, they're here with you, right?"

The room was filled with warmth.

Evelyn noticed the injury on Edward's face and was both shocked and angry. She cupped his face, "Who did this? Tell me!"

"I fell on the way to find you." Edward smiled weakly, his hands gently covering hers.

"That's nonsense! Did you fall face-first? Are you that clumsy?"

Evelyn's cheeks turned red with anger, "You came to my house the other day, and Charlie and my brothers saw you. Did they hurt you?"

Edward quickly explained, "No, really, they didn't."

"It was them! It had to be! You used to be in the peacekeeping forces; you're strong. Even Ulysses can only fight you to a draw! Who else could hurt you like this? Unless you stood there and let them hit you!"

Evelyn's eyes filled with tears as she tried to touch his bruises but hesitated, afraid to hurt him more. "Even if they hit you, they shouldn't have hit your face. How could they be so cruel?"

Edward's eyes were filled with tender affection, but seeing Evelyn so worried about him made his heart ache. Happiness, sadness, and regret intertwined, and his eyes reddened. He grabbed her hand tightly, unwilling to let go.

"Evelyn, none of that matters. Nothing is more important than you being back with me."

Edward's voice choked with emotion as he spoke the last sentence.

Evelyn, tears streaming down her face, threw herself into his arms, holding him tightly. "Edward, I'm back. I never want to leave you again."

Suddenly, there was a rapid knock on the door!

"Edward! Evelyn! Open up!"

Evelyn and Edward exchanged glances. "Is that Molly?"

Edward lifted Evelyn from the bed and helped her to the door.

Molly stood there, her eyes red with worry, her cheeks smeared with frosting. "Edward! Evelyn! Something's wrong! Bad people are here to take Evelyn!"

"Bad people?" The couple was stunned.

In the next moment, Ulysses' tall figure appeared behind Molly like a ghost.

"Evelyn."

"Ulysses?"

Evelyn's face turned pale, and she screamed, "Edward! Close the door!"

Edward, usually calm and collected, was momentarily stunned by Ulysses's presence.

But Molly reacted quickly, sweating profusely as she tried to help close the door.

However, no matter how fast she was, she couldn't outpace Ulysses. His strong hand grabbed the door frame.

Molly used all her strength but couldn't close the gap!

Seeing Evelyn, who had once been so close to him, now looking at him like he was a monster, Ulysses sighed deeply, his expression pained.

"Evelyn, don't hide from me. I'm not here to take you back."

Edward's eyes widened, and Evelyn was equally shocked, "What? Ulysses, you..."

"I never intended to separate you two."

Ulysses looked at the couple who had endured so much but still couldn't be together, feeling a pang of sadness. "I just wanted to make sure you were safe, not sick or injured. Don't be afraid."

Simple concern, but it struck Evelyn's heart deeply!

Edward was moved, his throat tightening.

At this moment, he couldn't believe it.

Among Evelyn's family, there was still someone willing to stand by his side, someone willing to believe in him.

"Ulysses!"

Evelyn stepped forward and hugged Ulysses, who immediately responded with a deep embrace, gently stroking her hair. "Silly girl, you're such a silly girl. You jumped from the fifth floor to escape. If something had happened to you, we would have felt guilty for the rest of our lives!"

"Evelyn... you!" Edward's eyes widened, his body trembling.

"I'm fine, it's just the fifth floor," Evelyn sniffled, wiping her tears and snot on Ulysses' black shirt.

"I know you too well! When you want to do something, no one can stop you! Not just the fifth floor, remember South Island? You jumped from a plane without hesitation!" Ulysses scolded her, using his tie to wipe her nose like she was a little kid.

The only woman Ulysses would pamper like this was Evelyn.

"Can you stop talking nonsense?"

Evelyn sniffed, her nose red, "I brought this on myself. You have nothing to feel guilty about."

At this moment, Eric arrived, looking tense.

Seeing the situation was relatively calm, he sighed in relief and hugged Molly.

"Eric, did I misunderstand Ulysses?"

Molly looked up with innocent eyes, feeling guilty, "I thought he was a bad guy."

"Indeed, Ulysses is not a bad guy."

Ulysses comforted Evelyn, then turned his cold gaze to Edward.

"Ulysses, thank you for giving me a chance." Edward's voice was hoarse.

Suddenly, his vision darkened!

Ulysses' brow furrowed, and he threw a punch straight at Edward's face!

"Edward!"

"Ulysses! Don't!" Evelyn tried to stop him, but it was too late!

Edward remained calm, ready to take the punch.

But just half an inch from his nose, Ulysses' fist stopped, and he sneered, "Don't get cocky. This has nothing to do with you. I just don't want to make Evelyn sad. She needs you. Don't think your actions can be forgiven."

Edward's heart felt crushed, "I'm sorry. I know I deserve to die, but thank you for not taking Evelyn away. Even if it's just temporary. Every moment with her is precious to me."

Ulysses hesitated, then slowly withdrew his hand.

Evelyn quickly returned to Edward's side, intertwining their fingers tightly.

"Alright, let's talk about something happier."

Ulysses softened his tone, not wanting to be the villain, "Evelyn, I found the hideout of the woman who looks almost identical to you."

Ulysses' news was a huge relief for Evelyn and Edward!

Eric was excited too, but he didn't want Molly involved in these messy affairs, so he asked Ellen to take her back to her room while he stayed to learn more.

Edward held Evelyn on the couch, listening intently as Ulysses recounted his encounter with Sarah.

He detailed how Sarah had hidden weapons and tried to seduce him, only to be outsmarted.

But he didn't tell them about the electrifying kiss Sarah had given him, leaving him stunned and her in tears.

She had come to kill him, yet she cried. What was that about?

"Wow, this sounds like a movie!"

Eric was amazed, "Is this really happening in today's world? Art truly imitates life!"

Ulysses rolled his eyes, "You need to get out more and broaden your horizons."

Eric gritted his teeth, trying to stay calm.

"Ulysses, she came onto you, and you didn't take advantage? She's beautiful, isn't she?"

Evelyn teased, feeling better, "What a missed opportunity!"

"Do you think I'm desperate? Just because a woman throws herself at me, I can't control myself?"

Ulysses retorted, then jabbed at Eric, "I'm not like him."

"I..." Eric's face turned red, silently cursing Ulysses.

Evelyn's expression turned serious. "You said you placed her in a hotel and used her as bait to catch the mastermind. So, who is she working for?"

Ulysses smirked and pulled out his phone, showing a photo on the coffee table.

The three of them leaned in.

Instantly, the room's atmosphere turned icy, the air almost freezing!

The man in the photo taking Sarah away was someone they knew well.

Gilbert's secretary, Curtis!

"It's him... of course, it's him!"

Evelyn was furious, her body trembling, "He tried to harm Landon and Jennifer, and now he's targeting Ulysses! He's a heartless monster!"

But this time, Gilbert miscalculated.

They say Gilbert is a cold-blooded snake, but Ulysses is a python!

Edward held Evelyn tightly, his warm hands soothing her shoulders.

He had suspected this all along, so he wasn't surprised.

"Edward, you were lured to the hotel by this woman and fell into Jessica's trap. Now it all makes sense. Gilbert orchestrated this to drive a wedge between you and Evelyn, forcing you to marry Jessica! Such a vile scheme, typical of Gilbert!"

Eric gritted his teeth, "He made Evelyn misunderstand you, made everyone think you were a jerk, and caused Mr. Taylor to distrust you. He almost succeeded! So despicable!"

Evelyn's heart ached; her lashes lowered in guilt.

"He won't succeed."

Edward kissed her cheek, "My Evelyn knows I would never lie to her. She will always believe in me."

"Fool."

Evelyn shrugged, embarrassed, "What if I don't understand you? What if I don't come back?"

Edward's eyes curved with love, "I'll wait for you forever."
