Chapter 139 Are They Getting Engaged?
Landon squinted at Evelyn.
Evelyn was a total opportunist, never following the rules. She could turn the tables with the slightest chance!
Virgil looked shocked. He couldn't believe Evelyn asked him that.
"Judging by your face, you know," Evelyn said coldly, glaring at him.
"I do." Virgil swallowed hard, his voice shaking. "Because that child is mine and Nicole's."
Landon and Evelyn were both stunned!
Evelyn's hands clenched in excitement as she thought, 'This is a jackpot!'
"What happened? Explain," Landon demanded coldly.
"I used to coach at a high-end gym in Mythorica. I met Nicole there. She had this allure and kept tempting me. We got involved." Virgil said.
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, "Go on."
"But it was just a fling. Nicole always had men around. I was just one of them. One time, we did drugs, and she got euphoric. I didn't take precautions. She took emergency contraception, but it didn't work. She got pregnant."
Evelyn blinked. "Wow, Nicole did drugs too. The more I dig, the more surprises!"
"Nicole's ruthless. Why did she keep the child?" Evelyn asked.
"She said she was weak and couldn't have kids if she had an abortion. No rich family would accept a daughter-in-law who couldn't give birth, so she had to have the baby." Virgil mocked, "She didn't seem weak in bed."
Children were a sore spot for Evelyn. Virgil's words hit a nerve.
But she quickly composed herself, asking coolly, "Where's the child now?"
"In an orphanage in Mythorica. About two or three years old, a girl. That's all I know!"
Virgil didn't dare hide anything else. He had never visited his daughter, only providing this much info.
"People like you becoming parents is an insult to parents everywhere."
Landon couldn't hold back his anger, "She's your child, and you just discarded her?"
"Not completely. I heard Karen's been secretly watching my daughter! Karen took her right after birth! Karen must know where she is!" Virgil, unable to bear the pressure, revealed another crucial detail.
Evelyn's eyes sparkled, making up her mind, then looked at Landon.
With a silent understanding, Landon looked back. They exchanged a glance, understanding everything without words.
At that moment, the basement door opened, and a bodyguard hurried in with Virgil's phone. "Evelyn, there's a call."
Evelyn took the phone, looking at the screen coldly, and asked, "Who is Ashley?"
Virgil shivered, swallowing hard, "It's Nicole."
"When the call connects, you talk to her," Evelyn said, bending down and holding the phone in front of him, her eyes cold as ice. "No tricks, no weird stuff. Act normal."
Virgil nodded frantically, obedient as a dog.
The call connected, and Virgil answered, "Hey, Ashley. What do you need from me so late? Miss me?"
"Cut the crap," Nicole snapped. "You haven't caused me any trouble recently, have you? I told you to wait for my instructions. You haven't messed things up, right?"
Virgil had no choice but to say, "No, I won't act before getting your instructions."
Evelyn's lips curled into a cold smile.
'So Virgil acted on his own, trying to deal with me quickly for Nicole's reward.'
"Don't touch Evelyn for now, wait for my signal," Nicole's voice was both sweet and smug. "Things are looking up. I've regained Edward's trust, and he's been with me these past few days. And Patrick has agreed to our marriage. We should be getting engaged soon."
'Engaged?!' Landon's brow furrowed, and he looked at Evelyn with concern.
But Evelyn remained indifferent, even yawning.
Landon's lips curved slightly. Seeing Evelyn's nonchalance reassured him.
"So, you and Edward are getting engaged. What about the five million dollars?" Virgil asked.
"Why are you in such a hurry?" Nicole's tone was impatient. "Is that little money worth rushing me? I'll send you five hundred thousand dollars first. Take that for now. After Edward and I finish the engagement ceremony, I'll send you the rest."
"So, do I still need to deal with Evelyn?" Virgil asked.
"Her? Just teach her a lesson," Nicole's tone was lazy yet venomous. "She made my life miserable. I want her to suffer endlessly. Even if she doesn't end up crippled, I want her pretty face ruined!"
The call ended.
Nicole's venomous words had scared Virgil stiff.
However, Evelyn remained calm and composed.
"Good performance. Take a rest. I'll find you when I need you."
Just then, Evelyn's phone rang. It was William.
She turned to answer, walking out of the basement.
As Evelyn left, the air seemed to drop to freezing point.
Virgil's eyes widened in terror as he watched Landon, exuding a hellish coldness, approach him.
Landon closed his eyes slightly, his noble figure slowly bending down.
A silver cross, gleaming with a cold light, slipped from his suit jacket, dangling like a sword above Virgil's head, as if it would sever his head in the next second!
Landon did nothing, but Virgil was already scared out of his wits, as if he saw the Grim Reaper behind him.
"Evelyn's arm, you injured it?" Landon said calmly, his eyes visibly red.
"I'm sorry."
Landon shook his head, slowly closing his eyes, and sincerely prayed, "Merciful Jesus, please forgive my sins. Everything I do is for the ones I love."
As he finished speaking, Virgil saw a flash of silver light before his eyes!
Then, a scream echoed in the basement.
In the open space.
William stood alone in the cold wind, his handsome face pale and haggard, as if he could be blown away.
"William, why are you here?" Evelyn saw his poor complexion and quickly walked over, concerned.
William, with red-rimmed eyes, looked at Evelyn and said in a trembling voice, "Evelyn, I'm sorry."
