Chapter 248 Did They Get Back Together?

Byron's brow furrowed even deeper when he heard that.

"Ms. Taylor, you're saying that just 'cause my family owes yours a favor, I can't be a lawyer? Is that it?" Gordon wasn't about to just stand there and take it. He forced a smile and said, "Look, I'm a professional lawyer. To me, there are only two kinds of people—clients and non-clients. Miss Wellington is my client, so of course, I'm gonna do my best for her. What's wrong with that? If you hired me, I'd do the same for you. This ain't about repaying any favor."

Edward saw Gordon's smug look and clenched his fists, his gaze intense.

"I wouldn't dare hire you!" Evelyn waved her hands like she was scared, "A lawyer as sharp as you is a double-edged sword. Today you help me, but tomorrow, will you help someone else against me?"

She poked her cheek and added, "Charlie saved Brian's life, and you don't even respect that. What do you think of me? If someone hires you to go against me, wouldn't you go all out to ruin me?"

Evelyn's words gave her goosebumps.

Edward watched Evelyn's seemingly innocent but actually scheming face, his lips curling up slightly, trying not to laugh.

Gordon coughed, clearly pissed off.

Debra had hoped to use the situation to mock Evelyn, but Evelyn's words left even Gordon speechless, so she hid behind Tiffany.

"Byron!" Evelyn walked over to Byron, holding his dry, thin hand with a worried look, looking closer to him than Debra, "Did you call me over 'cause you're not feeling well?"

"Don't worry. I'm fine." Byron looked gently into Evelyn's clear eyes and patted the back of her hand.

Evelyn let out a long sigh of relief, "That's good."

"Lily, I called you over 'cause I miss you and wanna see you. Plus, I wanna know what happened between you and Debra? How did it get so serious?" Byron spoke earnestly, "You and Debra are both my good granddaughters. I hope you both are well. Every time things get so dramatic, it makes me very anxious."

But Evelyn knew Byron wanted to say a few words for Debra.

For some reason, her nose tingled, and her throat choked up a bit.

No matter how good she was to Byron, it couldn't compare to Debra, even if his so-called "good granddaughter" was a schemer who repeatedly stabbed her in the back.

"Byron, Debra couldn't handle thosethree days at the police station!" Tiffany took the chance to hug the sobbing Debra, crying and complaining, "They interrogated Debra in shifts for 24 hours, scaring and cursing her, not letting her sleep! Look at her, they've tortured her to the point where she's unrecognizable!"

Debra did look much more haggard, her tear-streaked face adding to her pitiful appearance.

Byron had doted on Debra since she was a kid. Even though she wasn't as outstanding as Evelyn or as good at pleasing him, she had her own life after growing up and rarely visited him, Debra was still his biological granddaughter.

Edward saw Evelyn's eyes slightly redden, her earlier confidence gone, and felt an indescribable pain in his heart.

Evelyn was clearly wronged.

He suddenly remembered that during the three years she was married to him, she always lived like an outsider in this family.

At that time, he didn't know how to care for her and even hoped she would give up and ask for a divorce.

At this moment, it felt like history was repeating itself.

However, Edward had already made a mistake and would not allow himself to make it again!

So, with a stern expression, he strode over to Byron.

The next second, everyone was shocked!

Edward raised his arm and naturally wrapped it around Evelyn's slender shoulders, pulling her dominantly into his embrace, as if she had always been his, and they had never divorced!

Evelyn's beautiful eyes widened, her blood freezing.

"Edward, you!" Evelyn was interrupted by him.

"Byron." Edward didn't give her a chance to break free, his big hand gripping her shoulder, his fingers tightening slowly but firmly. "Instead of grilling Evelyn, why don't you ask Debra what she did?"

Evelyn felt Edward's hand burning hot, waves of heat invading her skin.

Sensing her attempt to break free, Edward's grip tightened, almost crushing her bones, like they were inseparably connected.

Seeing the ex-couple so close, everyone was shocked!

Only Byron showed a delighted and relieved smile, his mood instantly brightening, unable to contain his joy!

'Has Lily patched things up with Edward? But Lily doesn't look too happy. No matter, as long as Edward finally comes to his senses! Any progress in their relationship is worth celebrating!' Byron thought.

Evelyn finally couldn't bear it anymore. Taking advantage of the moment when no one was paying attention, she slowly lifted her foot and stomped hard!

Edward's brow furrowed slightly, letting out a barely audible grunt.

Only she could hear it.

Evelyn's red lips curled up in a wicked smirk, and she ground her high heel into Edward's expensive handmade leather shoe, feeling good.

But Edward's thin lips trembled in pain!

Edward gritted his teeth tightly, slowly turning his gaze to the smug look on Evelyn's face in his arms.

Unexpectedly, his tightly knit brows gradually relaxed.

'Does bullying me make her this happy? Then I don't mind letting her step on me again.' Edward thought.

"Byron! I'm being framed!" Debra, seeing that Edward and Evelyn were about to crush her in front of Byron, pulled Gordon to clear her name, "If I were really guilty, no matter how powerful Gordon is, he couldn't get me acquitted! The police aren't fools. How could a truly guilty person leave no evidence? It was Evelyn framing me all along!"

"The police have strict procedures for handling cases." Gordon also stepped forward to speak for Debra, "I am Miss Wellington's lawyer. What I can do is ensure my client's legal rights to the fullest extent. I don't have the ability to distort the truth."

He then looked at Evelyn with a calculating gaze, "Ms. Taylor, I don't know what personal beef you have with Miss Wellington, but I think you shouldn't use shady means to solve problems. Moreover, as Mr. Taylor's daughter, you should have the grace to tolerate others."

Evelyn narrowed her eyes slightly, letting out a cold laugh.

'Seems he forgot how Brian had bowed and scraped to thank Charlie with him years ago,' she thought.

Gordon once again pointing the finger at Evelyn!

Suddenly, Edward let out a chilling laugh.

The sound was magnetic and intimidating, even making Evelyn, who was in his arms, shiver inwardly.

"You really think you're something." Edward's eyes turned slightly red, his sharp gaze piercing Gordon, "Before we came in, what did I tell you? Are you brainless? Did you forget so quickly?"

Evelyn's pupils contracted, puzzled.

'Has Edward interacted with Gordon before? What did they talk about?' she thought.

Tiffany and Debra both froze, taking a small step back, feeling that Edward's aura was more terrifying than a ghost!

Gordon's fake smile was about to crumble, his expression a mix of shock and anger, gradually becoming twisted.

"Edward! How can you talk to Gordon like that? He's our guest!" Patrick couldn't help but scold. After all, he still wanted to rely on Gordon in the future. Edward was just making things difficult for him!

"He's your guest, not mine." Edward's cold gaze swept over Patrick's red face with anger, then slowly returned to Evelyn's clear and captivating eyes.

As their eyes met, his gaze suddenly softened, as if the whole world had disappeared, leaving only her in his eyes.

"I've said it before, anyone who dares to go against Evelyn will not have a good end." Edward said.

Evelyn took a sharp breath, her heart trembling slightly, her gaze seemingly glued to Edward, unable to look away.

Gordon's throat rolled with difficulty, his hands clenching tightly in secret.

"Gordon, have you remembered my words this time?" Edward asked.
