Chapter 313 I Feel You Two Are Quite a Match

The birthday party was about to start.

Evelyn saw the room full of distinguished guests, with Charlie and Byron sitting at the front, chatting enthusiastically. She smiled with satisfaction.

"I can't believe it! Is that Mr. Wellington?"

"It is!"

"Mr. Wellington and Mr. Taylor have such a good relationship!"

"It seems that at the Wellington family's hotel, Mr. Patrick Wellington's wife is also celebrating her birthday with a banquet tonight. Mr. Byron Wellington skipped his family’s event to attend Mrs. Taylor's birthday party. This is quite intriguing."

There were bursts of sneers among the guests.

"Isn't it obvious that Mr. Wellington still doesn't approve of Tiffany as his daughter-in-law?"

"In the past six months, Tiffany has been involved in bribery and fake jewelry at auctions. Her niece Nicole even cheated on Edward. It's no wonder Mr. Wellington doesn't like her!"

"I think Edward and Evelyn, Mr. Taylor's daughter, are a good match. I saw the news about that auction; Edward was quite protective of her. Do you think they have a chance?"

Evelyn frowned as she eavesdropped.

"Not likely."

"Why?"

"Edward and Nicole had such a messy breakup that it became a laughingstock. Evelyn is so proud and dignified; could she tolerate that?"

Evelyn nodded and thought, 'It makes sense.'

"Although Edward is excellent, Evelyn can find any man she wants. She doesn't need to settle for someone with a 'record'."

Evelyn nodded again and thought, 'Exactly!'

"How's the eavesdropping going? Enjoying yourself?" A voice sounded.

Evelyn was puzzled.

Her beautiful eyes widened slightly, and she looked up.

Edward had appeared in front of her at some point, standing beside her with a slight smile on his lips and a gentle look in his starry eyes, gazing at her with a soft smile.

"Who was eavesdropping!" Evelyn quickly turned her face away, biting her lip in embarrassment and annoyance.

"They're not entirely wrong, but there's one thing they got wrong," Edward sat down beside her gracefully, looking at her slightly flushed face, "I not only have a 'record' of dating history, but I also have a 'record' of marriage."

"So you're proud of that?" Evelyn crossed her arms, sneering.

Seeing that she seemed to be getting angry again, Edward's throat tightened, and he smiled bitterly, "Evelyn, I have no pride left in front of you."

Evelyn's expression showed a hint of surprise, and her heart trembled slightly.

"I regret it," Edward's throat was blocked and hoarse, his handsome face slowly darkening, "I regret treating you that way and that we were once married, yet no one knows you were my wife.."

"You don't need to regret it," Evelyn withdrew her gaze from his dark eyes, looking straight ahead, her voice cold, "I'm very glad I was your nameless wife for three years, and I'm also glad you didn't make our shameful marriage public."

Edward's long eyelashes fluttered. His heart felt like it was being cut by a knife.

Even now, after everything they had been through, in Evelyn's eyes, he was still her humiliation.

"This helped me quickly move on from that failed marriage. I can completely pretend we were never together," Evelyn blinked her beautiful eyes, smiling lightly, "We weren't together anyway."

"Evelyn, I..."

A crisp voice sounded behind Edward and interrupted him, "Evelyn! Sorry for being so late!"

Evelyn quickly turned around and saw Betty, instantly sweeping away the gloom in her heart, smiling brightly, "Betty! Not late at all, I was just afraid you wouldn't make it!"

Betty ran over and hugged her intimately, "How could I not come? You invited me, so I had to come right away!"

At this moment, Betty noticed Edward, with his strong presence, sitting beside Evelyn.

Betty's pretty face immediately fell, "Evelyn, are you going to have dinner with him? Won't you lose your appetite?"

Evelyn glanced at Edward indifferently, "Indeed."

Edward felt a stab in his heart but still thickened his skin, saying, "Evelyn, if you find me unappetizing, you can just not look at me."

Betty couldn't help but roll her eyes.

"You're such a big person, am I blind not to see you?" Evelyn was amused by his words.

"Then cover your eyes," Edward liked to see Evelyn's little temper. He couldn't help but joke with her.

"How will I eat then?"

"I'll feed you," Edward leaned slightly towards her, his low, magnetic voice teasing her ear.

Evelyn's whole body tingled with a numbing sensation. She panicked, trying to move her chair away to distance herself from Edward.

Unexpectedly, Edward had completely guessed her thoughts. His hand reached behind her first, secretly clasping her slender waist, making her unable to move!

Evelyn's pretty face turned crimson as she glared into Edward's deep, gentle eyes.

"Evelyn, it's just a meal together. Please, don't leave," Edward frowned, his eyes full of longing for her.

"Edward," Evelyn put her other hand behind her back and grabbed Edward's wrist, her fingers tightening continuously, as if in resistance, but more like in revenge.

Her slender hand couldn't fully grasp his well-defined wrist, but she exerted all her strength to make him feel the pain, piercing Edward's heart. She said, "Once, sitting with you and having a simple meal like an ordinary couple was something I dreamed of doing with you. But now, honestly, having a meal with you is indeed a bit nauseating."

Edward felt a deep bitterness and a lump in his throat. Powerlessly, he released his hand from her waist, feeling as if all his strength had been drained, "Evelyn, I'm sorry."

"Don't say such depressing things on Joyce's good day," Evelyn felt a mix of emotions but didn't pay much attention, "Forget it. Since you're here, sit down."

Her attitude was like charity. But even so, he wanted to seize the opportunity.

"Evelyn, let me tell you, on my way here, I ran into a real jerk. It was so annoying!" Betty, seeing the atmosphere was not good, quickly changed the subject to distract Evelyn.

Edward picked up a glass, quietly taking a sip of water.

"Tell me about the jerk," Evelyn blinked her eyes with interest.

Edward quickly held his chest, coughing from being choked.

"Well, I got into a car accident on my way here," Betty replied.

Evelyn and Edward were puzzled.

Who could be so nonchalant after a car accident?

"Were you hurt? Why didn't you call me? I could have taken you to the hospital!" Evelyn grabbed Betty's shoulders with both hands, extremely worried.

"Except for a slight neck pain, I'm fine," Betty felt warm being cared for by Evelyn.

"You should still get it checked out. Some injuries are internal and might not show up immediately."

Edward suddenly spoke up, "As soon as the birthday party is over, I'll arrange for a professional surgeon to see you, no matter how late it is."

Betty was stunned, not expecting Edward to be so considerate.

"That's not necessary," Evelyn quickly hugged Betty, sulking, "I'm a surgeon too. I can take care of it. No need to trouble you."

Edward's lips twitched bitterly.

"That guy wrecked my pink sports car and didn't even apologize. He had such a bad attitude! He just threw a bank card at me and told me to buy a new one with the money!" Betty got angrier as she spoke, "Do you think he was insulting me? Does he think I'm poor?"

"And then?" Evelyn listened with great interest, finding the story quite intriguing.

"Then I took out a bank card and threw it in his face, telling him I had plenty of money and could keep him!"

Edward listened quietly, squinting his eyes, finding it amusing.

Evelyn couldn't help but chuckle, "I don't know why, but I feel like you two are quite a match. You both handle things with logic, not emotion."

Betty's mind flashed with Simon's tall figure, handsome face, bright sharp eyes, flawless skin, and youthful grace.

She couldn't help but swallow, her throat itching.

Betty muttered, "Who wants to be a match with that kind of person."

At that moment, she casually turned her eyes.

"Why are you haunting me? How did you find this place?" Betty was shocked, standing up from her chair, and pointing directly at Simon who was approaching her!

Evelyn and Edward turned their heads in surprise.

In the shifting light and shadow, Simon walked calmly towards them, his expression also stunned when he saw Betty, "You arrogant woman, I should be asking you that. What are you doing here?"

Evelyn's beautiful eyes flashed, and she tugged at Betty's sleeve, whispering, "Betty, do you know him?"

"Evelyn, he's the jerk who wrecked my sports car on the road!" Betty was so angry at the sight of him that she ground her teeth.

Evelyn's red lips parted slightly in a look of sudden realization.

Then, she stood up, walked over to Simon, and hooked her arm around his neck on tiptoe.

Such intimacy startled Betty.

Edward's eyes darkened.

Even though he knew they were siblings, seeing his beloved close to another man made him very uncomfortable.

"Betty, come here, let me reintroduce you," Evelyn smiled at the stunned Betty, "This is my biological brother, the top prosecutor at Mugden, Simon."
