Chapter 569 A New Wedding Gift for Her

The news of Randy's arrest spread like wildfire that night.

Helen's trending topic was quickly overshadowed by this bombshell.

The Alexander family was hit the hardest.

With the siblings of the Alexander family getting into trouble one after another, the family was pushed to the brink. Randy was arrested and even pulled down his pants in public, making a spectacle for the entire nation.

Elbert, watching the live news, was so enraged that he felt a sharp pain in his chest and collapsed, his face turning pale.

"Dad!"

Calvin tried to rush forward to help, but Gilbert was closer and got there first.

"Dad, sit down and take deep breaths."

Gilbert helped Elbert onto the couch and then urgently turned to Calvin, "Calvin, why are you just standing there? Go get the doctor to check on Dad!"

Calvin's face turned red with anger as he said to Gilbert, "Gilbert, you..."

"Calvin, I know you have issues with me. But with everything going on in the family and Dad's health, I'm only worried about him. I don't want to argue with you!" Gilbert's tone was urgent, but his eyes were piercing.

Calvin wanted to argue, but Elbert suddenly shouted, "Calvin! You useless thing! Get out!"

The atmosphere became extremely tense.

Calvin was furious, his face pale, but he knew that confronting Gilbert head-on wouldn't help. He had no choice but to leave, seething with anger.

"Dad... don't say that about Calvin," Gilbert advised, though his words were subtly provocative. "Calvin has been managing the company and taking care of Randy and Helen all these years. It's not easy. With everything happening to the family, he's under a lot of pressure. It's understandable that he has some emotions. Don't blame him."

"Randy and Helen ended up like this because he didn't manage them well as their brother!" Elbert clutched his chest in pain. "He's been the CEO for so long; has he solved any problems? I told him to keep an eye on Randy... Is this how he does it? He's a failure! The Alexander family's stock can't drop any further, or we'll be at risk of a hostile takeover!"

"Dad, I'll handle the company's issues slowly. You just focus on getting better. Don't worry," Gilbert reassured him gently.

"Gilbert... you've been through so much these years. This family really can't do without you," Elbert said tearfully, gripping Gilbert's hand. "From now on, I promise I won't let you down!"

On the way back, Gilbert's demeanor changed, revealing a cold smile.

"Mr. Alexander, I don't understand," Curtis said, puzzled. "With your financial power in Aurora Isle, acquiring the Alexander family's stock would be easy. Why are you stabilizing their situation instead?"

"I don't have any shares in the Alexander family. No matter how much I buy, it won't surpass Elbert and Calvin. Making big moves now would only expose me."

Curtis nodded, "True... You've finally gained Elbert's trust and driven a wedge between him and Calvin. You need to be cautious."

"Besides, I want Elbert to hand over the position to me willingly, so I can take over legitimately, not as a usurper," Gilbert said with a proud smile. "Calvin cares most about being the CEO. If I can personally bring him down, that would be the most brutal revenge."

"Elbert is already starting to dislike Calvin. That day isn't far off!" Curtis said excitedly.

Gilbert closed his eyes, feeling a pang of sadness. "Charlie has always been reserved with me. He thinks I lack status and shares in the Alexander family, and he's hesitant to entrust Evelyn to me. So, I must take over the Alexander family quickly and distance myself from them, showing him my sincerity. Only then will Evelyn and I have a chance. The Alexander family will be my wedding gift to her."

At that moment, Curtis's phone buzzed.

He glanced at it and immediately said, "Mr. Alexander! Our people report that Charlie is on his way to see Ms. Taylor!"

That evening, Eric was called away by Maurice, and Evelyn and Edward went out, leaving only Molly and Ellen at home.

Molly was painting in the studio, while Ellen stood quietly beside her, admiring her work. "Mrs. Clark, your painting is amazing, just like a photograph."

"You're exaggerating... Ellen, stop flattering me," Molly said, blushing.

"No, Ellen never lies to you and Mr. Clark," Ellen smiled. "Mr. Clark is lucky to have you. Thank you."

Molly shook her head, saying earnestly, "I should be thanking Eric... He didn't mind my flaws and treats me so well..."

"Mrs. Clark, don't say that," Ellen knelt on one knee, holding her hand. "No one else is worthy of Mr. Clark but you."

Just then, the doorbell rang.

"Ah! Is Eric back? I'll go open the door!" Molly said excitedly, running downstairs.

Since no one knew they lived here, she didn't suspect anything and opened the door, hugging the man standing there.

"Eric! You're back!"

However, the scene was silent.

Molly opened her eyes and sniffed his clothes. She realized this wasn't Eric; Eric had a tobacco scent, while this man only smelled of soap.

"Ms. Wellington, what are you sniffing?"

The man's amused voice made Molly jump back in surprise.

She finally saw that the person she had hugged wasn't Eric at all!

"You... you're the guy from the news... Evelyn's brother!" Molly exclaimed, her mouth agape.

"Hmm? You remember me? From the news? When was I on TV?" Peter asked, smiling with his hands behind his back.

Molly covered her mouth, feeling guilty. Since being with Eric, she hadn't touched another man. How could she hug someone else? She felt she had wronged Eric.

"I'm sorry..." Molly apologized.

"Ms. Wellington, what did you do wrong? If anything, I should apologize. I haven't showered in three days. Did I stink you out?" Peter's smile grew wider at her cute reaction.

"Mrs. Clark!" Ellen rushed over, seeing Peter and freezing for a moment. "Mr. Taylor?"

Peter was low-key, and few people knew his identity. Ellen only knew because Eric had told her privately.

"Are Evelyn and Edward home?" Peter asked, looking around. He had heard about the family's situation and hadn't seen his sister in days, so he was worried.

"Ms. Taylor and Mr. Wellington went out," Ellen hesitated before respectfully stepping aside. "Please come in and wait."

Peter walked into the living room and placed a file about Tiffany on the table. Tiffany's case was going to court soon, and Evelyn had asked him to meet here to review some documents.

"This house is nice, more stylish than ours," Peter said, looking around.

"Someone else said the same thing last time. He even said he wanted to buy a house next door and be our neighbor," Ellen said.

"Who?"

"Ulysses."

Peter laughed, "Sounds like Ulysses. My annual salary probably wouldn't even buy a bathroom here."

He noticed Molly sitting uneasily in the corner, looking pitiful.

"Ms. Wellington, did I scare you?" Peter asked with a smile.

Molly nodded, then shook her head, nervously wringing her dress.

"This is all my fault. I ended up taking advantage of you. I'm really sorry," Peter said bluntly, his police habits showing.

Ellen's expression froze at the words "taking advantage," staring tensely at Peter.

Just then, the doorbell rang again.

Ellen, suppressing her anger, went to open the door. When she saw the face on the monitor, she froze.

"Is Evelyn back?" Peter asked, following her.

Seeing Charlie's face on the screen, Peter was also surprised.
