Chapter 483 I Only Want Edward
Tonight, Oasis Villa was lit up like a Christmas tree, destined for a sleepless night.
Charlie, who had a thing for collecting antiques, had just smashed a bunch of pricey vases in a fit of rage.
Donna, Joyce, and Susan stood stiffly in front of Charlie. Joyce clung tightly to Donna's hand, and Susan looked just as tense.
"So... you all knew."
Charlie trembled, his anger boiling over. "You all knew... and kept it from me for three years... three whole years?"
"Charlie, we kept it from you because we didn't want you to be upset and hurt."
Donna tried to stay calm and spoke softly, "Your health hasn't been great these past few years. Especially with such a shock... You absolutely couldn't handle it."
Charlie's tall frame swayed as he pointed at them, laughing bitterly with eyes full of anger. "Your way of pleasing me was to keep me in the dark for three years about Evelyn marrying that jerk Edward? And you hid the fact that she can never have kids again? This is what you call doing what's best for me?"
"Charlie! Don't misunderstand, Donna didn't mean it like that!"
Joyce, with tears in her eyes, tried to explain for Donna but was cut off sharply by Charlie. "Of course, she's not Evelyn's biological mother. How could she truly care for Evelyn? All those times you acted like one big happy family in front of me, it was all just a show, wasn't it?"
"Charlie! How can you say that?"
Susan glared, stepping in front of them, but Donna quickly held her back. "I've been with you for almost twenty years, and Donna and Joyce have been with the Taylor family even longer! Even if it was an act, one or two years maybe, but who can keep up an act for twenty years?"
"Evelyn can't have kids anymore, do you think we don't feel for her? When we found out, we were a thousand times more heartbroken than you!"
Susan's tears flowed like rain, stunning everyone, including Charlie.
Susan, known for her strong character, had rarely shed tears. Even when she was shot twice, saving Charlie and nearly losing her life, she bled but didn't cry.
Now, she was overwhelmed with sadness, crying uncontrollably. "When Evelyn had her accident... afraid you'd find out, she hid in a small hospital in Mugden for a whole month to recover.
During that month, the three of us took turns caring for her. To cure her, Donna even went back to the Mays family, kneeling at their door to beg Dr. Mays to treat Evelyn."
Charlie's pupils contracted sharply, his heart tightening.
He knew Donna had severed ties with the Mays family and was always proud. But for Evelyn, she had knelt before them. That must have been more painful than death for her.
"We know it was wrong to keep it from you. But at the time, besides hiding it from you, we had no better option."
Joyce couldn't hold back her tears either. "Charlie, what's the point of getting angry now? Even if you drive us all away, Evelyn's loss... can't be undone."
"Why can't it be undone? I don't believe it!"
A furious shout shattered the heavy atmosphere.
Simon stormed in with bloodshot eyes, followed closely by Landon, who feared Simon's temper might lead to something drastic.
"I can quit my job! I'll take Evelyn around the world to find a cure! I'll take Evelyn to get treated!"
Simon's eyes were red with tears, filled with pain and defiance. "I don't believe... with modern medicine, I don't believe Evelyn's body can't be restored!"
"Simon, don't be impulsive!"
Landon pressed down on his trembling shoulder. "Being a prosecutor is your lifelong dream. You've worked so hard to get here, you can't just give it up!"
"But Evelyn..."
"The ladies and I will find a way for Evelyn. She will get better, she will."
Landon held back his sorrow, but his voice choked on the last few words.
"What can I do... what can I do?"
Simon was panicked, pacing and muttering to himself. He had never felt so lost in his thirty years.
"Fine, then I'll go kill Edward!"
He was about to run out, but was stopped by Landon.
"Enough! That's enough!"
The hoarse, broken voice pierced everyone's hearts.
They looked up to see Evelyn standing rigidly halfway down the spiral staircase. Her once radiant face was now pale, devoid of its usual vitality.
Seeing her like this, who wouldn't feel heartache?
"It's been three years, almost three years! I stopped caring a long time ago! Why do you keep bringing it up, why do you keep talking about it?"
Evelyn's eyes were red with anger, almost hysterical. "Do women have to have kids? Can't I live without them? I don't like children, I hate children! I've never wanted kids, never! Don't you dare blame Edward for this; it wasn't his fault! It was an accident!"
"Where's the butler? Where's Hubert? Didn't I tell you to keep her in her room?" Charlie roared through his tears. "Get her back in there!"
"I want to go back to Mugden! I want to see Edward!"
"In your dreams! Unless I'm dead, you'll never see that bastard again!"
This father and daughter, who had laughed and argued for half their lives, had now completely torn their relationship apart.
Evelyn's eyes filled with tears, and she stood stunned for a moment, then suddenly laughed. "Charlie, are you really this heartless? You've married one woman after another. I only want Edward, and you won't allow it, is that it?"
"Evelyn." Landon's heart sank, sensing Evelyn's unstable emotions.
"Are you afraid I'll commit suicide?"
Everyone was shocked. Donna, Joyce, and Susan covered their mouths in fear.
"Evelyn! Don't do anything rash! He's not worth it!" Simon stammered in panic.
"Evelyn, who are you trying to scare?"
Charlie squinted his eyes, gritting his teeth, though his heart ached, making it hard to breathe. "I know you well enough, you wouldn't dare die. If you really wanted to die, the day you lost the child, the day Edward divorced you, either of those days would have been enough for you to want to end it! You're just trying to scare me now, thinking I'll soften?"
Evelyn almost ground her teeth to dust! Charlie had guessed it all. She wouldn't die; she was just trying to scare him. This time, Charlie truly wasn't indulging her.
"Don't worry, my health is already failing. You want to go before me, but you might not get your wish."
"Dad, stop! You know Evelyn doesn't mean that, why hurt each other?" Landon was anxious, unable to bear their mutual harm.
Charlie's heart ached deeply, but his words were cold and hard. "For a damned man, she can hurt her own father. Why should I care about her feelings?"
In the end, Evelyn was taken back to her room. The door was locked, and her phone was confiscated, preventing her from contacting anyone.
This incident alarmed the entire Taylor family. After the intense argument, Charlie felt extremely exhausted and was helped back to his room by Landon and Simon.
"If you two want to speak for Edward, then don't. Just leave!"
Simon gritted his teeth. "Speak for him? I'm not crazy!"
Landon lowered his eyes. "You misunderstood. I have no such intention."
"Hmph, at least you have some conscience!"
At that moment, a loud thunderclap lit up the night like day. Charlie looked out the window, cursing, "God, why don't you strike Edward dead with lightning!"
Landon and Simon were speechless.
"Mr. Taylor!" Hubert ran over, sweating profusely. "Mr. Taylor, Mr. Wellington is here, he's right outside the gate!"
They were stunned!
Tonight in Hameen, the rain was even more ferocious than in Mugden.
Edward stared unblinkingly at the closed gate of Oasis Villa, the wind whipping through his suit, chilling him to the bone.
He had called Evelyn countless times, but her phone was off.
He had come, filled with bitter guilt and regret.
He desperately wanted to see her, but the overwhelming despair pulled at his heart, making him feel like he was falling.
Would he never get the chance to see her again?
Edward waited for a long time, soaked to the skin, until his phone's last bit of battery died. He didn't know what he was waiting for.
Then, through the rain-soaked air, came the heavy sound of boots. Edward instinctively looked up, his heart contracting sharply!
A black gun barrel was pointed at his forehead!
"Edward, you ruined Evelyn's life; you deserve to be shot."
Aaron stood before him, gripping the gun tightly against his forehead, the water dripping from his military cap adding a cruel beauty to his bloodthirsty eyes.
"Evelyn, a good girl, our princess, because of you, because she met you, her life is ruined!"
Aaron roared in the rain; the officer who never missed a shot was now almost unable to hold his gun steady. "What can you offer? Offer your life!"
Edward's eyes were lifeless, without any desire to resist. Death didn't scare him. He only feared his love for Evelyn would be cut short.
"Aaron! What are you doing?"
