Chapter 378 Don't Want to Stop
There is one thing that others don't know, not even Evelyn.
She is the illegitimate daughter of Samuel, the chairman of the Anderson Group, but her identity has never been acknowledged by the Anderson family.
When Betty was sixteen, she was almost raped by Samuel's brother, Matthew Anderson. In a fit of rage, her mother, Kathy Nelson, stabbed the man over a dozen times, killing him on the spot. The Anderson family, fearing a scandal, hired top lawyers to defend her mother. Her mother was sent to a mental institution, thus avoiding prison.
Over the years, the Anderson family has used this leverage to control Betty. Even though she has made a name for herself in the design world, she still has to return to work for the Anderson family whenever they demand it.
Rebecca has a son and a daughter. Her son, Francis Anderson, is the future heir, and her daughter, Stephanie Anderson, is doted upon.
As for Betty, she has always been an accessory to the Anderson family, not even worthy of being called an accessory; she is merely the Anderson family's pawn.
To break free from the Anderson family, she ventured out on her own, never asking for their money. She struggled under immense pressure to make a name for herself in the design world, yet she still couldn't fully control her own life.
"Where are you now?" Samuel asked sternly.
"At a friend's house."
"Tomorrow, bring two generous gifts and come with me to personally apologize to those two bosses!"
Betty recalled how those two old men had forced her to drink tonight and tried to grope her. A wave of nausea surged in her stomach. She gritted her teeth and replied, "I'm not going. If you want to go, go yourself."
"What did you say?" Samuel was furious. "You caused such a big scene tonight and even had them injured! How can you not show up to resolve this?"
"Exactly!" Rebecca chimed in, "Betty, you should know that if this deal falls through, the Anderson Group will lose a three-billion-dollar project! How are you going to make up for that? With your life?"
"I'll find a way to make up for the Anderson family's loss."
"Make up? With what? The money you make selling clothes?" Rebecca mocked her without hiding her disdain.
Laughter could be heard from the other end of the phone. She recognized it as her half-sister, Stephanie.
Stephanie had never missed an opportunity to belittle and mock her since they were kids.
"Come back right now!" Samuel roared.
"I'm not coming back, and I won't meet them tomorrow! Do you know, I almost got..." Betty choked up, unable to continue.
There was sudden silence on the other end.
After a while, Samuel's tone softened a bit, but his words were still as cutting as a knife. "Betty, I know it's difficult for you. But the Anderson family is in trouble right now. As a daughter of the Anderson family, it's only natural for you to make some sacrifices for the family, right? Stephanie is also sacrificing a lot for our family by marrying the second son of the Coleman family."
Betty's eyes turned red with anger. She asked word by word, "Did you know from the beginning that those two men had bad intentions towards me?"
Samuel remained silent.
"You knew everything, yet you still sent me to meet them. Is this how you use your own daughter to gain benefits?" Betty cried out, her eyes filled with tears.
Standing outside the door, Simon didn't catch most of the conversation, but he heard this sentence clearly.
Piecing together the bits and pieces he had overheard, he finally understood the whole story.
His heart ached, and his fists clenched tightly in anger.
What kind of monstrous family is this?
How could her own parents bear to make her do such a thing?
After a long silence, there was no sound from inside.
Simon took a deep breath and, out of concern, gently knocked on the door.
But Betty didn't respond, making him worry. He pushed the door open.
"Betty?" Simon's pupils contracted sharply, and he was shocked!
He saw Betty, as thin as a white feather, lying on the ground unconscious, her face pale.
Simon rushed forward to check on her and quickly realized she was in cardiac arrest. Fear spread through his entire body!
"Hang in there, Betty!" He pressed his hands on her chest, performing CPR, but she didn't respond!
"Betty, Betty."
Simon looked at Betty's lips, which were turning gray like withering rose petals. Finally, he steeled himself and leaned down to give her mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Their lips pressed tightly together as he breathed into her mouth, his heart pounding.
After a while, Betty's eyes slowly opened into slits, and she instinctively reached out her arm, wrapping it around Simon's neck.
Simon widened his eyes in surprise, losing his balance and falling onto her.
Betty's tear-filled eyes looked so pitiful and affectionate, stirring Simon's heartstrings.
Her lips, regaining their color, gently brushed against Simon's, soft and tender like flower petals kissed by morning dew.
Finally, the tight string in Simon's heart snapped silently.
His eyes reddened, he cupped the back of her head with his large hand, his breathing grew heavier, and his warm tongue pried open her teeth, deeply savoring her sweet breath, mixed with a faint taste of alcohol, invading all his senses, reaching deep into his soul.
He didn't know how things had come to this tonight.
But there was one thing he was sure of—he didn't want to leave her lips, didn't want to stop.
