Chapter 266 Edward Regrets

Edward, who was always the proud and rebellious type, was surprisingly chill right now.

Evelyn was kinda shocked to see him so mellow, biting her rosy lips.

Edward's strong, broad back was right there in front of her, totally exposed.

When she saw the big, nasty bruises and cuts, Evelyn's eyes widened. She tried to keep it together, but her heart was aching.

Edward noticed her silence and thought she was freaked out. He tried to turn around, but she pushed him down hard. "Don't move, let me check you out."

"The doc said it'll heal slowly," Edward's deep, smooth voice came out, like he was trying to comfort her even though he was the one hurt.

"I don't need you to tell me. Do you think I'm blind?" Evelyn snapped back, annoyed.

Edward sighed, caught off guard, and smirked. "When you were with me before, I never realized you had such a fiery temper, such a sharp tongue, and such guts."

"I was just pretending in order to please you." Evelyn lowered her lashes, her fingers gently tracing the scars on his back as she checked his injuries, her tone cold and distant. "I thought if I was sweet and caring, you'd eventually fall for me. But after seeing how heartless and ungrateful you are, I stopped pretending. Looking back, I was really dumb. It wasn't worth it to torture myself for someone who'd never love me."

Edward's breath hitched, a bitter taste spreading in his mouth.

"Evelyn."

"This side's done. Turn over," Evelyn patted his shoulder.

"The doc already checked me."

"I turst no one but myself. Turn over," Evelyn, now acting like a doctor, had a look of indifference in her eyes.

Edward didn't quite get it, but he did what Evelyn said, turning his body over.

Their eyes met instantly.

Seeing his ripped abs, Evelyn's heart skipped a beat.

She steadied herself, focusing on the task, gently pressing and checking his legs, arms, and abs.

Edward gazed into her deep eyes, a flicker of light shining within them, a certain emotion in his chest growing more intense.

At this moment, he desperately wanted to confirm something.

"Good thing you're a former soldier, so you're tougher than most. You haven't got any major injuries, but the bruising on your back is still bad. Aunt Donna's family pharma company just made a new external medicine that's really good. I'll ask her for some and have it sent to you," Evelyn instructed coldly, her fingers brushing over Edward's ribs.

Suddenly, her hand was grabbed, and Edward pressed her warm palm against his chest.

Evelyn was stunned, her heart racing. "What are you doing?"

"Don't you need to check here?" Edward looked at her intently, his breathing deepening.

"No need, let go!" Evelyn panicked, struggling against him.

Despite his bad injuries, Edward's strength was crazy. His eyes deepened, and with a swift pull of his long arm, she fell onto him, their heated bodies tightly pressed together.

In the next second, Edward's left hand, still with a needle in it, wrapped around her slender waist, holding her firmly with just one hand.

Evelyn's eyes filled with anxious tears. Just as she opened her mouth, a sudden kiss stopped her.

Edward's warm, moist lips slowly rubbed against her soft lips. He, like a beast that had tasted her sweet lips, lost control in an instant, prying open her teeth and greedily capturing her breath.

Evelyn was so overwhelmed by the passionate kiss that her mind went blank, a soft moan escaping her throat.

Her fingers clenched on his chest, leaving shameful scratches on his skin.

Embarrassment, anger, and grievance—so many delicate and sensitive emotions surfaced.

In an instant, Evelyn's eyes reddened, and she bit down hard on Edward's lip!

Edward didn't even flinch, letting her bite him, but held her even tighter.

The taste of blood spread in their mouths.

Edward silently endured the pain she inflicted, showing no intention of letting her go.

It wasn't until Evelyn was almost out of breath that he reluctantly released her.

Both were panting heavily, their foreheads covered in fine sweat.

Edward's lower lip was already a bloody mess from her bite.

"Edward, don't think that just because you saved me, you can do whatever you want!" Evelyn panted, her cheeks burning, almost shouting at him.

"You said it yourself." Edward gazed deeply at her, his thumb brushing over the blood on his lip. "You would repay me a favor, as long as it wasn't too excessive."

"And this isn't excessive?" Evelyn's tears started falling like raindrops.

She hadn't even realized she was crying, just venting her anger at Edward. "When will you let me go? Haven't we already divorced? Weren't you the one who kicked me out? When will you stop bullying me? I don't love you anymore, you have no right to touch me!"

"I regret it." Edward's voice was dry and hoarse, his eyes suddenly moistening.

But unlike Evelyn, who could cry and laugh whenever she wanted, expressing her emotions freely, he didn't have that luxury. For over twenty years, he had been overly repressed and highly restrained, unable to accurately express his emotions and feelings.

"What did you say?" Evelyn's expression was stunned, her beautiful eyes wide open.

"Evelyn, I regret it." Edward repeated, his voice soft but incredibly firm, "I regret divorcing you, I regret letting you go. Can you give me another chance to start over?"

'Start over? From where, Edward? You don't even know what happened between us over the past thirteen years, you don't even know we lost a child, and you want to start over with me. How dare you say that,' she thought.

Evelyn's beautiful, clear eyes gradually deepened, devoid of any joy, like a pearl fallen into the dust.

Seeing her cold expression, Edward's heart tightened, his passionate blood gradually cooling.

"Edward, it's over between us. Do you understand what 'over' means? It means there's no future." Evelyn's eyes sparkled with tears, but it didn't stop her from being cold and ruthless, "From the beginning to now, from our marriage to our divorce, it was all a mistake. The brief three years we had as a couple were all because I kept compromising. What's there to cherish about this broken relationship? Start over with you? Am I that irrational?"

Edward, unwilling to lose her, tried to grab her hand again.

But this time, she wouldn't give him the chance, swiftly avoiding him, leaving him grasping at air.

"I swear, never again." Edward took a heavy breath, his voice hoarse, "Never again, Evelyn. This time, you don't have to do anything, just stand there. Let me pursue you."

Evelyn's heart pounded wildly, her palms sweating, her breathing erratic.

"Pursue me? Didn't you say I was a shameless, insidious woman before? I'm not as delicate as Nicole, how could you possibly be interested in me?" Evelyn sniffed, her lips curling coldly, "Besides, the current Evelyn is not the same Lily you could control before. There are plenty of people pursuing me. Do you think you have any chance?"

"Evelyn, I really..."

"Stop, I don't want to hear it." Evelyn covered her ears with her hands, turning and quickly walking out as if fleeing, "I'll just consider everything you said today as nonsense from a concussion. I'm treating your injuries because I don't want to owe you. Once you're healed, we'll go our separate ways!"

The door to the hospital room slammed shut again.

Edward's eyes were bloodshot, and his hand, frozen in mid-air as he tried to reach her, trembled slightly and slowly fell. "I really have fallen for you."

Walking out of the hospital room, Evelyn didn't go back immediately. Instead, she found Bart to understand the condition and took the examination report and medical records that she planned to study carefully later.

Because she had just given Edward a comprehensive preliminary examination, and the situation was quite bad. His injuries were not light, and if not handled properly, they could leave lasting damage.

The Rolls-Royce headed towards Hameen.

On the way, William was driving and Aaron sat in the passenger seat, with Landon holding Evelyn in the back seat.

Evelyn held the medical records and Edward's scans in her arms, resting her head on Landon's shoulder, sighing repeatedly.

"What's wrong, Evelyn? You seem to be in a bad mood." Landon turned his head slightly, gently touching her soft cheek, "Is Edward not going to make it?"

Evelyn remained silent.

Aaron turned around, frowning, "Evelyn, if Edward isn't going to make it, that's a good thing. Why are you upset?"

Evelyn remained silent.

"Aaron, have you forgotten what kind of person Evelyn is? She's someone who repays kindness and has a kind heart. Edward got injured because of her. If something really happened to him, how could Evelyn live with that?" Landon sighed.

Aaron was still angry but couldn't say anything more.

"Although Edward is seriously injured, he was rescued in time, so his life is not in danger," Evelyn finally spoke softly.

"That's good." Landon asked puzzledly, "If that's the case, why are you still upset?"

"It's nothing major." Evelyn paused, then said lightly, "It's just that Edward said he wants to pursue me."
