Chapter 106 I'm Not Pretending Anymore

The word "Dad" was soft but hit like a thunderbolt, catching everyone off guard.

Byron and Patrick stood there, mouths agape, completely stunned.

Nicole felt a chill run through her, her face turning pale. Tiffany and Debra were just as shocked.

No one could've guessed that a woman from a humble background, trampled by everyone, and discarded by the Wellington family, would turn out to be the daughter of the richest man in Hameen!

"Mom, is this true?" Debra asked timidly, tugging at Tiffany, who snapped, "Shut up!"

Edward stood frozen, emotions swirling inside him, overwhelmed by confusion and shock.

'How could my wife, who was a caregiver to Byron and married to him for three years, be the daughter of the Taylor family, Evelyn?'

Edward took a deep breath, walked up to Evelyn, and stared into her familiar yet strange face with bloodshot eyes.

Evelyn pursed her lips and looked away, avoiding his intense gaze.

"Is it really you?" Edward's voice was hoarse.

"Yes." Evelyn's lips moved coolly, her eyes calm.

"So, it was you who countered the Adams Group and made me climb ten floors."

"Edward, no need to ask anymore. It was all me. I'm the general manager of KS WORLD Hotel, the daughter of Charlie, Evelyn."

Evelyn interrupted, her voice icy, "But don't misunderstand. As the hotel manager, everything I did was for the hotel's interests, not to target you. As for why I used a stand-in to meet you, you should understand. I hid my identity to avoid unnecessary trouble and so we could part ways amicably."

Evelyn paused, her eyelashes drooping sadly, "In this matter, I did deceive you. I'm sorry."

She had deceived him again, and this time it was more absurd than all the previous ones combined.

Yet, Edward didn't feel as angry as he thought he would. Instead of hating her for deceiving him, he wanted to know why.

'Why, born into a wealthy family, would she hide her identity and stay by Byron's side as a caregiver? Why, knowing I didn't love her, would she endure such humiliation and marry me?'

"So, you and Landon, and Simon."

"They are my biological brothers, same father and mother."

Evelyn said lightly, then walked towards Charlie, ignoring him.

Edward took a sharp breath, his chest feeling crushed.

At that moment, William hurried over, saw Charlie and Evelyn together, and understood everything, saying, "Mr. Taylor, Miss Taylor."

"William, go support Landon, he's drunk. Evelyn might not be able to hold him." Charlie, though furious, couldn't afford to lose face in front of the Wellington family now that Evelyn had made a huge mistake. He had to suppress his anger and leave first.

William quickly went to support Landon, and Edward wanted to help but was coldly rejected by Evelyn.

"No need, Edward. We can manage ourselves."

Edward pursed his lips, his arms awkwardly suspended in mid-air.

"William, contact our family doctor immediately and take Landon to the hospital; he might need his stomach pumped," Evelyn instructed seriously.

"Stomach pumped?! Isn't Landon just drunk?" William asked.

"Landon isn't drunk."

Evelyn's sharp gaze swept angrily over the Wellington family, "His reaction shows he was drugged!"

Everyone was shocked.

Meanwhile, Tiffany, Nicole, and Debra had different expressions, especially Debra, whose legs were trembling.

Charlie's face turned frosty. 'From the beginning, I felt something was off with Landon. He could hold his liquor and was disciplined; it was impossible for him to get drunk and lose control at Byron's birthday party. Something fishy is going on!'

William helped Landon away.

Byron, pale with anger and trembling, said, "Lily, what exactly is going on? Tell me in detail!"

Although he now knew she was the daughter of the Taylor family, Byron still couldn't change how he addressed her immediately.

"How is this possible?!" Patrick, thinking his family had strict discipline, felt deeply humiliated by this scandal and eager to save face. "The security level in the villa is very high, and under heavy guard, it's impossible for outsiders to get in!"

"Everyone here tonight is a friend or family member. In broad daylight, who could do something so dirty? Maybe Landon has food poisoning or an allergy."

"It's okay if you don't believe it. The Taylor family's hospital is efficient. Once Landon gets a physical and blood tests, the truth will come out."

Evelyn raised her chin slightly, her eyes cold. "And you said the villa is heavily guarded and everyone here is family. Doesn't that imply the culprit is from the Wellington family?"

Patrick's face turned pale, unable to respond.

Nicole, terrified, stumbled backward.

'It's okay, Debra did it all; I didn't do anything!'

Meanwhile, Debra's heart pounded.

'We agreed I'd drug Landon and Nicole would deal with Lily. How did Landon get drugged and Lily stay fine? Did Nicole not act at all?!'

Debra glared at Nicole, gritting her teeth.

"Ms. Taylor, isn't that a bit much to say?" Tiffany, fearing the truth, quickly spoke up. "The Wellington family and the Taylor family have no grudges. Why would we harm Landon?!"

"Enough! This isn't your place to speak!" Byron shouted, his voice full of authority.

Tiffany, scolded like a servant, seethed with anger inside.

"Maybe it's not about harming Landon, who is just a pawn. The real target is me." Evelyn's gaze was calm, without fear.

Edward's brows furrowed, his eyes suspiciously sweeping over Tiffany and Debra.

'From the start, it was strange when Charlie and Landon, who weren't on the guest list, suddenly attended Byron's party. Then, Tiffany exposed my relationship with Evelyn in front of Charlie, followed by finding Landon and Evelyn in a room together. It's all too coincidental, like a chain of events!'

"After performing for Byron, a maid told me Landon was resting in a room because he felt unwell and asked me to check on him. I was worried and went without much thought. I didn't expect this situation." Evelyn clenched her teeth, her eyes red. "To protect me, Landon held a piece of broken vase, using self-harm to stay calm, preventing some people's plans from succeeding! Because I hid my identity, no one in the Wellington family knew I was the daughter of the Taylor family, so they targeted me. But they didn't know Landon and I are siblings. If they had known, they wouldn't have used this trick."

Charlie, heartbroken, suppressed his anger, smiling coldly. "Patrick, you must explain tonight's incident, or don't blame the Taylor family for disregarding the Wellington family's reputation!"

"Mr. Taylor, there must be some misunderstanding!" Patrick was almost tongue-tied with anxiety.

Charlie impatiently waved his hand. "I don't want to hear that! My son and daughter were schemed against in your house, and one was harmed! I don't care if the culprit is from the Wellington family or not; the incident happened here, so you must explain!"

"You're making things difficult for me!" Patrick's face turned red with anger.

"The drug wasn't put in your son's drink, so what's difficult for you?"

Charlie squinted his eyes. "Patrick, are you incapable of investigating, or are you afraid to?"

Patrick gritted his teeth, his head spinning with anger.

Seeing Charlie backing her and Landon, Evelyn's eyes welled up, feeling warm inside.

Despite his flirtatious nature, Charlie knew how to protect his family!

Nicole's dress was soaked with cold sweat, and Debra, with even weaker nerves, was already retreating, lifting her dress and tiptoeing, ready to slip away.

"Debra, where are you going?" Eric asked.

Debra almost screamed, looking up suddenly, as Eric walked towards them with a cold, determined look in his eyes.

Everyone saw he was holding a sleeping girl in his arms.

Debra was furious, her lungs aching, and hatred spread uncontrollably in her red eyes.

'The girl Eric is holding and carefully protecting is clearly Molly!'
