Chapter 304 You're More Effective Than Medicine
Eric's furious outburst left a severe psychological scar on Jessica.
Right in front of her, the female secretary and Alfonso were punished. Alfonso had followed Eric for so many years, but his tongue was cut off just like that. Judging by his condition, he probably didn't have many days left!
Eric did all of these for Molly.
For a fool, he would go to such lengths?
In comparison, what did she count for as his sister? She was a colossal joke!
Jessica left that villa with immense resentment, returning to the Clark Manor.
All the way, memories of Eric's past affection for her kept flooding her mind, making her angrier and angrier, so she cried the entire way.
Finally, she made a decision. No matter what it took, she had to break up Eric and Molly!
"Jessica! You're finally back!" Susan hadn't seen Jessica for a long time. She was so emotional that she rushed out to hug her. "Jessica, didn't your plane arrive a long time ago? Why are you back so late? You had me worried sick!"
"Mommy," Seeing Susan, Jessica's eyes reddened as she thought of her grievances.
"What’s wrong, Jessica? You look unhappy. Who bullied you?" Susan asked with concern, "Where's Eric? Did he go to pick you up? Why didn't he come back with you?"
Jessica lowered her eyes and shook her head pitifully.
"Eric is really something! He used to pamper you like a treasure, while now he sent you to Mugden and ignored you because of Debra. Now that you're finally back, he didn't even go to pick you up! What is he thinking?" Susan tenderly stroked Jessica's cool cheek.
Susan continued, "These days, Eric hasn't come home even once! I know he's usually very busy and does things his own way, but he never used to disappear like this without a word! He doesn't come home and doesn't care about his sister. I really don't know what he's thinking every day!"
"I know why Eric isn't coming home," Jessica said.
"What? You know?" Susan was taken aback.
Jessica clenched her fists tightly, her voice turning sinister, "Mommy, I'm going to tell you something, but you must stay calm."
"What happened, Jessica? Don't scare me!"
"Eric is with Tiffany's younger daughter, Molly," Jessica said through gritted teeth.
"Who? Tiffany? That shrew's younger daughter?" Susan was indeed shocked, her eyes wide open.
"Yes, Debra's younger sister, Tiffany's daughter, Molly!" Jessica clung to Susan's arm and shook it. "Mommy! What is he thinking? Tiffany and Debra came to our door, slandered us, and even tried to get me imprisoned! It hasn't been long since that happened, but Eric is already involved with Debra's sister! How can he do this? He doesn't care about me, his sister, anymore!"
Susan felt very uncomfortable hearing this news. After all, Eric was perfect in her eyes. Though the Wellington family might be prestigious, and Eric had a close relationship with Edward, she still comforted Jessica, "Jessica, although I don't like Tiffany's daughter either, you know Eric's personality. He likes to make friends, and most of the girls from the elite families in Mugden have some connection with him, but he has never brought a girl home. He has never been truly interested in one."
Susan added, "He often interacts with Edward and frequently visits the Wellington family, so it's normal for him to be interested in Molly for a while. But I think, before long, he won't pay attention to her anymore. Hasn't it always been like this over the years?"
"No! It's different this time, Mommy!" Jessica's eyes were bloodshot with hatred, and she was trembling with anger. "The reason Eric hasn't come home for so long is that he and Molly are already living together! Eric even bought her a property!"
Susan was thunderstruck, her face turning pale!
"I hate Tiffany and Debra so much, and of course, I don't want Molly to marry Eric. But Eric is determined to be with Molly! For Molly, he even got mad at me! And..." Jessica deliberately trailed off, keeping Susan in suspense.
"And what?"
"He hit me!" she said, tears streaming down her face.
"Hit you? Where did he hit you?"
"He hit my face! Even it was in front of the servants and that bitch Molly! Mommy, my face hurts so much!" Jessica covered her face and threw herself into Susan's arms, crying uncontrollably.
Susan's heart ached as if it were being squeezed. This was her beloved daughter!
Eric, whom she had pinned all her hopes on, had torn apart his relationship with Jessica for Molly.
What next? Would he even stop recognizing her as his mother?
"Mommy! You must prevent Eric and Molly from being together! If Eric really marries her, the Clark family's reputation will be ruined! Eric will become a laughingstock in the Clark Group!" Jessica's voice was hoarse with anxiety.
"What do you mean by that?" Susan was utterly confused.
"Molly, she's mentally challenged! She's an autistic patient with developmental delays!"
Susan's vision went black!
Her exceptionally outstanding son, who was more than a match for Evelyn from the Taylor family, how could he marry a mentally challenged woman?
She wouldn't allow it!
"Mom! Even if Molly is the daughter of the Wellington family, aren't you afraid that if she marries Eric, your future grandchildren might also be mentally challenged? Who knows if her condition is hereditary!"
Jessica's words hit Susan right in the heart!
"Jessica, thank goodness you told me this. I know what to do now!" Susan's usually gentle and kind eyes flashed with a hint of coldness. "Don't worry, I will protect you all. I will never let Eric marry such an unworthy woman and ruin his life!"
Jessica, hiding in Susan's arms, showed a dark smile upon hearing this.
Days passed, and the birthday parties hosted by the Taylor family and the Wellington family were just around the corner.
These days, Tiffany, constrained by Patrick, didn't dare to publicly announce her birthday, but she still sent invitations to all the prominent figures in Mugden's high society, subtly spreading the word.
Although her reputation in Mugden wasn't what it used to be, she was still the wife of the chairman of the Wellington Group. With that background and status, she didn't believe her event would be outshone by Joyce's!
On the Taylor family's side, they also hadn't publicly announced Joyce's birthday party; everything was being done in secret.
After all, high-society ladies aren't celebrities who need to expose themselves for attention and publicity.
The night before the birthday party, Joyce was blindfolded and led into a room by Donna, Susan, and Evelyn.
"What's going on? Why so mysterious?" Joyce asked with a smile.
"Three! Two! One!" As the countdown ended, Evelyn removed her blindfold.
Joyce adjusted to the light, widening her eyes in astonishment.
Under the dazzling spotlight, a mannequin was dressed in a luxurious black and red evening gown. The skirt shimmered beautifully under the light, breathtakingly stunning!
"So, so beautiful," Joyce murmured in awe, lost in admiration.
"Joyce, this dress was personally designed for you by the top international designer, Sharon, whom Evelyn found!" Donna affectionately wrapped her arm around Joyce's shoulder, her eyes glued to the dress. "I thought I had seen it all, but seeing Sharon's design up close, I can't help but want to scream! It's too beautiful!"
Evelyn, who had heard countless praises since she emerged as Sharon, felt happier hearing her family's compliments than any other.
Evelyn felt a warm joy in her heart and secretly smiled.
"Sharon! Evelyn, this is too precious!"Joyce quickly grasped Evelyn's hand, her cheeks flushing with shyness. "Evelyn, you must have spent a lot of money and effort to get her to do this, right? You really didn't have to go to such trouble!"
"It wasn't any trouble at all! I'm the daughter of the Taylor family. If I revealed my identity, Sharon wouldn't dare refuse to make a dress for me. She wouldn't want to ruin her reputation, would she?" Evelyn said playfully, hands on her hips.
"Then can you have her design something for me too? I want a biker jacket! A leather one!" Susan's eyes sparkled with excitement. "I've recently gotten into riding motorcycles. I joined a Hameen motorcycle club that has events every month. So I've been missing a good-looking biker jacket. Can you have her design one for me? I'll reimburse you!"
Evelyn and Donna fell silent.
Sensing the awkward atmosphere, Susan coughed and said, "Is it that Sharon doesn't handle that kind of work? Forget I said anything."
"Aunt Donna, Aunt Susan, don't worry. When it's your birthday, I'll have Sharon make clothes for you too. You won't be left out!" Evelyn said with a smile, hugging them both.
"Isn't Sharon known for being particularly aloof and hard to get? How can you get her to work for you repeatedly?" Donna eyed Evelyn suspiciously. "Evelyn, could it be that you are Sharon?"
Joyce and Susan also turned to look at her.
"How could that be!" Evelyn laughed awkwardly, waving her hands. "I'm already Alexa; how could I also be Sharon?"
Donna, Joyce, and Susan said in unison, "It's possible."
"Wait! There's more," Evelyn ran behind the mannequin and pulled out a delicate red velvet box, presenting it to Joyce with both hands. "Joyce, I might be very busy tomorrow, so I'm giving you your gift in advance. Happy birthday!"
Joyce felt a surge of emotion, opening the jewelry box. Inside was a beautifully crafted aquamarine ring. Fresh and elegant, like the clear ocean under the bright sun, it was love at first sight.
Joyce's eyes welled up with tears, "Evelyn, thank you. I really love it. Thank you."
"I didn't use very expensive gemstones, partly because I didn't want to overshadow Dad, and partly because I think this serene aquamarine suits you better," Evelyn smiled with satisfaction and confidence. "I like to choose main stones that match the wearer's personality and temperament when designing jewelry. Because I'm Alexa, my designs are worth more than the jewelry itself."
Afterward, Donna and Susan also took Joyce to see the birthday gifts they had prepared, making the room lively.
At that moment, Evelyn's phone vibrated.
She took a moment to check it and then left the room, heading to the end of the hallway.
She took this call."Ms. Taylor, This is Edward. I'm feeling much better and wanted to report my condition to you." Under the moonlight, Edward's voice was exceptionally gentle, with a seductive magnetism. "In the future, if you want to know how I'm doing, you can call me directly. No need to contact Bart privately."
Evelyn's heart trembled, and she bit her red lips.
"Or, I can call you. I'd be more than happy to," Edward's rich, magnetic voice sounded in her ear, proactive and unlike his usual self.
"There's no need. I'm not your primary doctor, and I don't have the time to monitor your health 24/7," Evelyn's face remained stern, her voice cold. "It's good to hear you're fine."
"Thank you for taking care of me last time. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have recovered so quickly," Edward chuckled softly, his voice husky and low, teasing her ear. "You're more effective than medicine."
"Edward! Are you tired of living?" Evelyn's cheeks flushed as she recalled being pinned down and kissed by Edward that day. She pounded the glass window with her fist. "If you keep acting like a rogue, I will make you regret it! I mean it!"
"How could I regret it more, Evelyn?" Edward's laugh was bitter and humble. "Divorcing you is my lifelong regret."
"Serves you right. I'm hanging up; I'm busy."
"Evelyn! Wait!"
"What now!" Evelyn was annoyed and didn't want to be nice to Edward anymore.
"Can I attend your family's birthday party tomorrow? Can I?" Edward asked cautiously, lacking confidence but full of longing.
He longed to see her again.
Evelyn snorted lightly, pouting, "Edward, the birthday party will be full of Taylor family members. Do you think you have the face to show up?"
"I know, I understand," Edward's tone was particularly serious. "Is it okay, Evelyn?"
Evelyn remembered that night when Patrick beat him severely over this matter, leaving his back covered in wounds.
She bit her lip, reluctantly agreeing, "Remember to bring a gift."
Edward's face lit up with joy, his voice brightening. "Of course. How can I come empty-handed to meet the family?"
Evelyn gritted her teeth and growled, "Get lost!"
