Chapter 337 I Will Take Responsibility for You

Evelyn's eyes widened, her entire body tensed, and her red lips trembled in shock!

She wasn't slow to react, but the incident happened too suddenly.

"Mr. Alexander!"

Curtis screamed at Gilbert with all his might, desperately trying to rush over to protect him, but it was too late!

The black horse, which had gone berserk and charged into the arena, was panting heavily, with bloodshot eyes. It was charging madly towards Evelyn!

Evelyn's breath caught in her throat. She wanted to run, but in her immense panic, her legs wouldn't move!

"Evelyn!"

At the critical moment, Evelyn's pupils contracted, and her vision went black!

Gilbert leaped at the last moment, and wrapped his arms tightly around her; then they both tumbled heavily to the side!

Dust flew up as they both hit the ground.

Gilbert's back hit the ground first, with Evelyn protected in his arms. Apart from some minor scrapes, she was almost unscathed.

Even so, she felt a violent jolt at the moment of impact, making her feel extremely uncomfortable as if her internal organs were all tangled together!

How much pain Gilbert must have felt when his body hit the ground!

"Gilbert! Are you okay?" Evelyn asked in a panic, her eyes turning red.

"I, be careful!"

Gilbert's face turned pale. Despite the pain, he tightened his grip on Evelyn and rolled to the side with all his strength!

The black horse suddenly changed direction and reared up on its hind legs!

Gilbert felt a sharp pain in his back, causing him to break out in a cold sweat, soaking his suit almost completely!

"Gilbert!"

Evelyn felt as if an invisible hand was squeezing her chest, making it hard for her to breathe.

At that moment, Curtis and two horse trainers arrived, working together to subdue the frenzied horse and giving it a strong sedative.

Under the effect of the medication, the horse's emotions gradually calmed down, and its bloodshot eyes returned to normal.

"Mr. Alexander! Mr. Alexander!"

Curtis cried out as he ran over, seeing Gilbert lying on the ground, pale and unable to stand. He was so anxious that he didn't know what to do, almost scared out of his wits!

"How do you manage these horses?" Curtis angrily scolded the two horse trainers, "If anything happens to Mr. Alexander, you two won't get away with it!"

The two horse trainers were trembling with fear.

Evelyn desperately tried to calm herself down and said, "Let's not talk about that now; saving him is the priority!"

Evelyn's forehead was covered in cold sweat. She gently laid Gilbert on the ground and ordered Curtis to call an ambulance immediately. She then began to check Gilbert's body for injuries.

"Where does it hurt? What does it feel like? Tell me now while you're still conscious!" Evelyn spoke to him in a doctor's tone.

Seeing Evelyn's serious expression, Gilbert's lips curled into a slight smile, filled with affection and joy. "Evelyn, seeing you so concerned about me, I don't feel any pain at all, really."

"Gilbert, is this the time to joke?" Evelyn said, both anxious and angry.

Gilbert didn't dare tease her any longer. Enduring the pain, he said softly, "My arm, my back, they both hurt a bit."

Before he could finish speaking, Evelyn's hands paused as she found the location of his broken arm.

Feeling the protruding bone and recalling the harrowing moment earlier, she felt a sharp pain in her heart.

"It's okay, Evelyn." Gilbert looked at her deeply, his voice gentle.

"You say it's okay? Your arm is broken!" Evelyn shouted at him, her eyes red.

Even though he was the one injured, he was still comforting her, making her feel even more guilty.

Evelyn said, "Don't worry, as long as I'm here, I'll fix any broken bone in your body. Even if all your bones are broken, I can fix them all. I will take responsibility for you!"

I will take responsibility for you.

Warmth filled Gilbert's heart.

No woman had ever dared to say she would take responsibility for him, Gilbert.

What others didn't dare to do, she did, and that was one of the reasons he was deeply infatuated with her.

"This is really strange!" One horse trainer scratched his head in disbelief, "This black horse is usually the most docile and obedient one in our stable. It's usually so timid, how could it suddenly lose control today?"

Curtis glared at him, "Who are you asking? Don't you know what's going on? Useless!"

"Generally, horses exhibit such abnormal behavior when they've been severely frightened," Evelyn said thoughtfully, her brows furrowed.

"How is that possible?" The other horse trainer said, "This black horse has been quietly staying in the stable. No one has approached it or let it out. How could it have been frightened and lost control?"

Hearing this, Evelyn and Gilbert's faces both darkened.

Mugden Convention Center was hosting a high-profile banquet.

Patrick was mingling with familiar business owners, chatting and laughing.

"Patrick! Long time no see!"

Patrick turned around in surprise to see Bradley walking towards him with a champagne glass, smiling.

"Bradley, nice to see you." Patrick nodded slightly.

Compared to Bradley's enthusiasm, Patrick's attitude was evidently a bit cold.

Although Bradley was Charlie's only brother and held the position of Vice Chairman at KnightSpear Group, everyone knew that most of KS's shares and assets were still controlled by Charlie and his children.

Bradley didn't carry as much weight in the company as Landon, the CEO.

Barring any surprises, Landon was expected to be the future heir of KnightSpear Group. In a few years, Bradley, the so-called second-in-command, would be completely overshadowed by Landon.

The business world was always so pragmatic, aligning with those in power. Although Patrick didn't like Charlie, at least Charlie's status was worthy of a conversation.

Bradley, on the other hand, was a different story.

"Bradley, isn't Charlie here? Did you come alone?" another businessman asked curiously.

Bradley replied, "Charlie has been busy with family matters lately and couldn't make it."

Bradley sighed with feigned concern, "Joyce had some issues recently, you might have heard. She's been so down that she almost couldn't go on. Charlie has been by her side day and night, so he has no time or mood to attend any events."

Patrick remained expressionless, though his eyes showed a hint of complex emotions.

"I heard about that incident too. It happened so many years ago, and someone still brought it up. They must have bad intentions!"

"Jealousy, probably! Seeing her birthday celebration, marrying the richest man, and being so beautiful, it's common for people to play dirty tricks out of spite. My entertainment company's artists often fight like this, it's just ridiculous!"

Patrick pursed his lips and frowned.

Although the comment wasn't directed at anyone specifically, it still felt very unpleasant to him.

"Mr. Taylor is truly a man of deep feelings and loyalty."

"Indeed, Joyce only gave Mr. Taylor one daughter, yet he never treated her poorly. It speaks volumes about his character!"

The guests nodded in agreement.

Bradley forced a smile and felt quite disgruntled.

He had brought up the topic thinking people would mock Charlie, but it backfired, earning Charlie more praise instead!

Patrick glanced at his watch and scanned the room, but Edward was nowhere to be seen.

"Patrick, at such an important event, why isn't Edward here?" Bradley probed.

Patrick, "He'll be here shortly."

"Really? That's great!" Bradley's eyes lit up, and his tone became more eager, "Our group has a promising project related to environmental protection, which the government is heavily supporting. Charlie put me in charge of it, and we're looking for partners."

He then briefly explained the project, and Patrick nodded, showing some interest.

"My daughter Lori has come up with a couple of good collaboration plans recently. She'll be here later. After the banquet, why don't we sit down and discuss them in detail?" Bradley suggested with a smile.

"Your daughter?" Patrick raised an eyebrow.

Bradley replied, "Yes, I have one daughter, Lori. She's the same age as Evelyn, just four months younger. She studied in Lisbon on a full scholarship every year and even worked as a translator for the President of Lisbon."

"After returning, she joined KS on her own merits and has been serving as the Director of Product Design." Bradley proudly introduced Lori, as if he were showcasing a finely crafted product.

The guests nearby thought to themselves, 'Does your daughter really need merit to join KS? Who are you kidding?'

"She sounds impressive." Patrick had no choice but to offer a polite compliment.

Bradley continued, "Then it's settled. After the banquet, I'll make the arrangements!"

Patrick was slightly taken aback.

Settled? Who said it was settled?

He might not be young anymore, but he certainly wasn't senile. Couldn't he see that Bradley's business talk was just a pretext, and his real aim was to introduce Lori to Edward?

"Mr. Taylor, my father hasn't agreed to anything yet. How can you say it's settled?"

Everyone was stunned and turned around.

Edward was striding towards them with a stern expression.

"Edward, why are you so late?" Patrick complained, secretly relieved.

Bradley's smile froze, and just as he was about to speak, Edward coldly said, "If you're sincerely discussing business, you should choose a more appropriate time, not rush into it like this. At the very least, you should go through the proper appointment process. After all, we're not close enough to meet anytime, anywhere."

"If your intention isn't business but something else, like introducing your daughter to me," Edward's eyes turned cold, showing no mercy, "then I'm sorry, but I won't entertain any matchmaking attempts."
