Chapter 394 Did You Have Sex?
KnightSpear Hospital.
Evelyn was admitted to the VIP ward, lying on the bed with an IV drip. She was physically and mentally exhausted, yet she couldn't sleep.
Landon sat by the bed, holding Evelyn's foot on his knee, carefully treating her ankle wound with a cotton swab.
It was only then that Evelyn felt a slight pain, furrowing her brows slightly but remaining silent.
"Evelyn, you didn't return to the Mugden villa or Hameen last night. Where did you go?" Landon asked softly, his hand trembling slightly as he applied the medicine.
Evelyn remained silent.
"Did you go to see Edward?"
Edward's name was like a ticking time bomb; every time Landon mentioned it cautiously. "Adrian said you took him to see Edward yesterday, and the conversation didn't go well. Later, you received a phone call and left alone. Did you go to see him?"
"Landon."
After a long pause, Evelyn finally focused her vacant eyes on Landon's face and replied hoarsely, "I hate myself right now. I feel so stupid."
"What are you talking about? Don't belittle yourself."
Landon's heart ached, and he leaned in to hug her. "Anyone who dares to say a word against you, I'll make sure they never have a good life."
Gods, faith, in the face of blood ties, were insignificant.
He only wanted Evelyn to have a smooth, safe, and happy life.
Evelyn sobbed in Landon's arms. She didn't understand why she felt such a strong impact when she saw the photo of Edward and Nicole.
It was as if her soul had shattered into pieces.
At that moment, a nurse entered the room.
"Mr. Taylor, it's time to change Ms. Taylor's dressing."
"Okay."
Landon released his embrace and stood up, ready to step aside with a worried look.
The nurse helped Evelyn remove her loose hospital gown. Underneath, she wore a silver silk camisole, her exposed skin smooth and delicate, her arms so thin they seemed fragile.
Although Landon had helped her change clothes and put her to bed when she was little, Evelyn was now a grown woman, and he needed to avoid such situations.
Just as he was about to leave the room, he caught a glimpse of Evelyn's neck and collarbone, covered in fine red marks!
Not just her neck, but down to her chest!
For a moment, Landon was stunned, his Adam's apple bobbing up and down. He stepped forward and gripped Evelyn's thin shoulders, his fingers almost digging into her flesh.
The nurse was startled and, seeing Mr. Taylor's grim expression, wisely stepped out for a moment.
"Evelyn, did he touch you?"
Landon's eyes were intense, his voice hoarse, "Did Edward touch you? Did you have sex with him?"
Evelyn looked at him with dim eyes, her dry lips twitching.
She didn't answer, but that was an answer in itself.
"Did he force you?" Landon almost spat out the words through gritted teeth.
"No, I was willing."
Landon felt as if the softest part of his heart had collapsed.
When Landon came out of the ward, his face was terrifyingly grim.
Upon hearing about Evelyn's car accident, Simon and Peter, who worked in Mugden, and Jennifer, who was in class, all rushed over. Even Ulysses sped to the hospital.
For Evelyn, the Taylor family kids rarely gathered like this, only missing Aaron, who was in the military.
"Landon, how did Evelyn get into a car accident?" Jennifer was scared, tears welling up in her eyes.
William saw this and wanted to gently hug her, but with so many people around, he, as a secretary, couldn't act too presumptuously.
He could only keep his concern to himself, but his intense gaze never left Jennifer.
Perhaps, for someone like him, the only qualification was to stand silently behind her, guarding her without a word.
"Yeah, Landon, Evelyn is an underground racing legend. Her driving skills are as good as mine. How could she rear-end someone? People shouldn't even be able to see her taillights." Ulysses was equally puzzled.
His heart had been in knots the whole way. He had faced life-and-death situations under criminals' guns without flinching, but Evelyn had thrown him into disarray.
Simon and Peter also looked at Landon nervously, the atmosphere in the hallway heavy.
Landon's handsome face was as cold as frost, his jawline tight, and he remained silent for a long time.
"Landon?" Simon nudged him. "Say something."
"Evelyn's car accident is not serious, just some superficial injuries and a scare."
After a long time, Landon finally pulled himself out of his anger and said calmly, "You guys will have to take turns watching over Evelyn for the next couple of days. Don't tell Mom and Dad about this for now. They're with Joyce, and Evelyn wouldn't want to add to their stress."
"Landon, your words make me angry. Are you treating us like outsiders?"
Ulysses frowned, annoyed. "Evelyn is our sister. Taking care of her is our duty. You don't need to say that; we'll stay."
"Yeah, Landon, nothing is more important than Evelyn," Simon and Peter quickly agreed.
"Simon, Peter, you both have work. I have nothing to do, and William and I can watch over Evelyn 24/7. You guys should go back and rest." Jennifer and William exchanged a knowing look, both with unspoken feelings in their eyes.
"I'm fine. I've already informed my workplace."
Peter immediately declined, sighing with guilt. "As Evelyn's brother, I've never really done anything for her. Now that she needs someone by her side, how can I not be there? What kind of brother would I be?"
The Taylor family kids never had the scheming and infighting seen in other wealthy families.
They were always united, a bond others could only envy.
"Landon, you've arranged for all of us. What about you? Do you have something to do?" Simon, as a prosecutor, had a keen intuition. He sensed that Landon was acting a bit unusual, as if suppressing some kind of anger.
"I have something to take care of."
With that, Landon glanced at the ward door again, hesitated, and walked back in.
At this moment, Evelyn had finished changing her dressing and was back in her loose hospital gown, curled up on the bed with her eyes closed, motionless. It was unclear if she was asleep or not.
Landon's eyelashes trembled slightly as he silently approached Evelyn, gently leaned down, and kissed her forehead.
"Rest well, my princess. I'll come back to see you."
"Landon." Evelyn didn't open her eyes, only spoke weakly, "I'm fine. I'm really fine. Don't worry about me."
If she hadn't said that, it would have been better.
But her pretense of strength pierced the softest part of Landon's heart. His eyes welled up with tears, almost unable to hold them back.
