Chapter 348 My Wife, and Only Her

In an instant, Edward felt ridiculous.

He thought that although Jessica had gone astray, she should still retain a bit of the innocence from her childhood. After all, she was the only sister of his best friend, Eric.

But the result was that he had overestimated Jessica's character.

She and Eric were only related by blood; in other aspects, there was no reference value at all!

Since that was the case, he had no reason to hold back.

Maurice stroked Jessica's hair and glared angrily at Edward, "Jessica may be a bit spoiled, but she has never lied since she was a child! Does Edward dare to do something but not admit it?"

Edward clenched his fingers tightly.

Jessica's eyes flickered with a sinister light. This time, she had brought Maurice over with great fanfare to use his influence to force Edward to marry her!

"Patrick, I have two demands!" Maurice's face suddenly darkened, "First, I want Edward to apologize to Jessica right now! After all, it was all because of him that night that Jessica was surrounded by reporters and almost ruined her reputation!"

"Mr. Clark! What did Mr. Wellington do wrong? Why should he apologize to Miss Clark? Isn't this too much bullying?" Everyone turned around in unison and saw May storming out, standing up for Edward.

Tiffany, hiding behind Patrick, was first stunned, then revealed a sinister smile. She had long disliked May. Over the years, May had relied on Edward's support and didn't even put her in her eyes. Now, for standing up for Edward, she was going to suffer!

"May, go back." Edward was taken aback and urged in a deep voice.

"Mr. Wellington, I'm afraid you'll be bullied!" May's eyes were brimming with tears. She had been watching from upstairs for a long time, enduring it. Hearing Maurice forcing Edward to admit his mistake to Jessica, she couldn't stand it anymore!

"Mr. Wellington, Mrs. Wellington, does your servant dare to come out and speak so rudely? Such disrespect?" Sophia glanced at May with a cold sneer.

"Sophia, you don't know our situation. Although May is a servant, holds a very high position in our family," Tiffany began to subtly jab at May again, "Not to mention you guests, even we, the hosts, are not in her eyes."

"Why is May's position high, Aunt Tiffany, you know very well." Edward walked to May's side, shielding her behind him, his gaze icy towards Tiffany, making her shiver, "After my mother passed away, May has always been by my side, taking care of me like her own son. In my heart, her position is as important as my mother's."

"Mr. Wellington," May was moved to tears.

"And I've already said, in the Wellington family, May only takes care of my daily needs, not your nanny. Isn't it normal that she doesn't put you in her eyes, Aunt Tiffany?"

Everyone chuckled.

After all, in the Wellington family, May was much more popular than Tiffany!

"You!" Tiffany gritted her teeth in hatred, but to argue further would be too disgraceful.

"Besides the apology, there's a second demand." Maurice ignored their dispute and continued coldly, "Patrick, given the current situation, there's only one way to resolve it properly. That is for our two families to unite through marriage, for Edward to marry Jessica!"

Everyone was shocked.

"Marry Jessica?" Edward chuckled, "Mr. Clark, who do you think I am? Any woman is fit to be my wife?"

These words left everyone stunned!

Jessica's lips trembled.

"Edward, watch your behave!" Patrick was naturally unhappy with the Clark family's coercion but didn't want the two families to fall out.

"Edward! How dare you!" Maurice slammed his cane on the ground, his anger rising, "Jessica is a match for you, and you still feel wronged. How dare you insult Jessica!"

"In this life, my wife will only be one person. She was, and she always will be."

As soon as Edward finished speaking, the butler hurried over, "Mr. Wellington, Mrs. Wellington, Ms. Taylor is here!"

The crisp sound of high heels echoed in the hall.

Edward's breath deepened as he looked at the slender yet striking figure walking towards them, his gaze intense, as if he could ignite the beautiful silhouette before him.

Jessica watched as Edward was completely captivated by Evelyn. She was so jealous that her face twisted, but she was helpless!

Edward cared only for Evelyn, leaving no room for any other woman.

If it weren't for that person helping her strategize, if it weren't for her willingness to go all out, she might never have had the chance to be in the same room with Edward in this lifetime!

"Mrs. Wellington!" May exclaimed in surprise. "It's really you!"

The servants didn't dare to speak loudly, but they all cast surprised and expectant glances at Evelyn!

By now, everyone knew that Edward's heart belonged to Evelyn!

Why had Evelyn suddenly appeared at this moment? Was she here to save Edward from the Clark family's forced marriage?

Evelyn was wearing a black tight-fitting dress, draped with a black velvet, sharply designed shoulder-padded blazer, looking both glamorous and dashing.

Two originally conflicting qualities always blended seamlessly on Evelyn, even creating a stunning spark.

Just one confident look from her completely crushed Jessica, who couldn't even lift her head.

Sophia, seeing Evelyn suddenly appear, clutched her tightening chest.

Her heart wasn't in great shape to begin with, and thinking of Evelyn's illustrious deeds made her feel that even if their whole family joined forces, they couldn't match her. How could her heart not feel strained!

"Grandpa, she's the one I told you about, that Evelyn!" Jessica whispered anxiously in Maurice's ear, "She bullied me a lot before, Grandpa, you have to stand up for me!"

Maurice stared gloomily at Evelyn, feeling a bit complicated.

Although it was his first time meeting Evelyn, he was an old acquaintance of her father, Charlie!

They weren't friends, but Charlie's character was top-notch in their circle. He could fall out with Patrick, but facing Evelyn, he found it hard to make things difficult!

"Mr. Wellington, good evening. Sorry for the sudden visit. Mr. Clark, you're here too."

Evelyn's beautiful eyes smiled as she greeted Maurice with neither humility nor arrogance.

Jessica anxiously urged in a low voice, "Grandpa! Why aren't you saying anything? She not only bullied me, but she's also my rival in love, competing with me for Edward!"

Maurice paused, saying nothing; he really couldn't stand up for Jessica in this case!

As a prominent figure, how could he stoop to bickering with a junior? It would be so undignified!

Edward's gaze was as fiery as ever, fixed on Evelyn.

His mind knew he ought to be angry at her for the hurt she'd caused before.

Yet, his heart and body blazed with desire, craving her presence despite everything.

"Ms. Taylor, what brings you here so late?" Patrick asked distantly.

"Yes, Ms. Taylor, as you said, it's quite presumptuous to visit suddenly," Tiffany said with a gloating expression, "Can't you see? We're entertaining important guests, and discussing important matters. It's not appropriate for outsiders to listen in. If there's good news, we'll let you know."

Her words were barbed and full of insinuations.

Edward's handsome face turned cold, just about to speak, but Evelyn smiled lightly and said, "Mrs. Wellington, you misunderstand. I'm not interested in your two families' conversation at all. I'm here to see you."

Everyone was stunned, looking at each other in confusion.

Tiffany was taken aback, her brows furrowing tightly, "See me? Why?"

"Do you want to talk to me alone, or should I speak openly here?" Evelyn's beautiful eyes curved, flashing with cold light.
