Chapter 262 What Have You Done for Her?

"Edward." Evelyn, half-asleep and out of it, mumbled his name, her lips dry and cracked.

"I'm right here, Evelyn." Edward's eyes were locked on her as he knelt down. "Feeling any warmer?"

"Edward, you jerk!" Evelyn groaned, still stuck in her nightmare. Even in her sleep, she managed to slap him with her dirty hand.

Edward couldn't help but chuckle, feeling a mix of amusement and helplessness.

'Man, even in her dreams, she's cursing me out. Guess I've really messed things up. Am I seriously thinking about spending my whole life making it up to her? Have I actually fallen for her?'

His heart pounded at the thought. He leaned in, wrapping her soft, limp body in his arms, and pressed his warm lips to hers.

Evelyn let out a soft moan, making his eyes burn with emotion.

Their lips locked, and the kiss grew deeper, more intense.

Evelyn's eyes stayed shut, and Edward closed his too.

It was all pure instinct, body and mind. He just wanted to hold her, kiss her, and never let go.

Then, a fierce wind howled outside the cave—the sound of a helicopter!

"Evelyn! Don't worry, someone's here to save us. We're gonna be okay!"

Even though Edward was sure he could save her, the relief of being rescued made him hug Evelyn even tighter.

A powerful gust hit as a sleek helicopter landed smoothly.

Edward squinted against the bright searchlight to get a clear look at the chopper.

'This isn't the Wellington family's ride. Who found us? Doesn't matter, as long as they can help Evelyn,' he thought.

He scooped up the sleeping Evelyn, who was wrapped up like a burrito, and headed for the helicopter.

"Evelyn!"

"Evelyn!"

Landon and Aaron's frantic shouts cut through the night as they jumped out of the helicopter.

Edward felt nothing seeing Landon, but Aaron, in his dark green military uniform and black boots, with the rank of colonel, stirred something in him.

Seeing Aaron was like looking at his old self in a mirror.

Even though he was a CEO now, he missed those glory days in the military.

But now wasn't the time for nostalgia.

He was more worried about Aaron's connection to Evelyn.

"Edward, give Evelyn back to me!" Aaron's anger was palpable. His uniform was soaked, water dripping from his cap, but the storm couldn't break his resolve.

Compared to Aaron, who had never dealt with Edward, Landon was calmer, but still dissatisfied.

Seeing Edward almost shirtless in the cold, with all his clothes wrapped around Evelyn, Landon frowned slightly, feeling a bit moved.

"Evelyn! What happened to her?" Aaron rushed over, but Edward stepped back, eyeing him coldly.

"Who are you to her?" Edward asked, his voice icy.

"He's my brother, Evelyn's third brother," Landon explained quickly.

Edward's eyes widened.

Looking closer, Aaron didn't look much like Landon, but he had a strong resemblance to Ulysses. How had he missed that?

Edward had no idea Evelyn had a brother in the military, let alone one with such a high rank!

His lips pressed into a thin line, a bitter feeling stabbing at his heart. He held Evelyn tighter, thinking, 'Why are all the guys around Evelyn so damn impressive?'

"Evelyn." Aaron's voice cracked with heartbreak, his eyes red, desperate to take her from Edward's arms.

Among Victoria's four sons, Landon seemed like the gentlest, but that was just a front. Aaron, with his special status, was always seen as the cold, strict, no-nonsense type. But out of all Charlie's kids, he was actually the softest and most emotional.

Even this year, Aaron couldn't make it back for Evelyn's birthday because of his military duties. He'd hide under the covers at night, secretly wiping away tears.

Aaron was a guy with a super soft and sensitive heart.

"Let me hold her," Edward said, looking down at Evelyn, coldly refusing.

"You're not worthy!" Aaron, thinking of the divorced Evelyn, shouted at him with red eyes, "Do you have any idea how you abandoned her and how you hurt her? Stop pretending to be the good guy! Even if you saved Evelyn, I will never be grateful to you!"

"I never expected you to thank me." Edward paused, his voice hoarse, "Evelyn is very important to me. I admit that I once hurt her. What I'm doing now is just trying to make it up to her."

"You can't make it up!" Aaron interrupted him harshly, "If you knew this would happen, why did you do it in the first place? You killed the lively, carefree Evelyn with your own hands, and nothing can bring her back!"

Edward felt like he'd been struck by lightning, standing there stiffly.

"Go home. I want to go home." At this moment, Evelyn shivered in Edward's arms, murmuring softly in her sleep.

"Evelyn, I'll take you home!" Aaron stopped arguing with Edward and quickly took Evelyn from his arms.

As Aaron lifted Evelyn's soft body, her hand tightly clutched Edward's black vest, refusing to let go.

"Don't go. Don't go," she mumbled in a daze.

"I'm not going anywhere. You're still running a fever; how could I leave you?" Edward, always a cold man, felt his heart melt like ice and snow for Evelyn.

He turned to Aaron, almost pleading, "Let me take her to the hospital. Once we're there, I'll leave."

"In your dreams!" Aaron shouted angrily.

"Aaron." Landon called out to him, stepping forward with a stern face, "Let's do as Edward says. Let him come with us to take Evelyn to the hospital."

"Landon!" Aaron was reluctant.

"Edward, no matter what, I have to thank you for saving Evelyn. Come with us on the helicopter." Landon said as he looked at Edward calmly.

Edward's heart tightened, and he replied with a somber "Thank you."

Evelyn was once again cradled in Edward's arms. He carefully protected her, as if she were a lost treasure found again.

At this moment, the Wellington family's helicopter, sent by Bart, also arrived. But Edward waved it off, choosing to board the helicopter in front of him with Landon and Aaron.

The helicopter took off, soaring into the night sky.

Edward held Evelyn the entire time, not relaxing for a moment.

Aaron touched Evelyn's feverish forehead, his breathing growing heavy, tears welling up in his eyes. "Evelyn, open your eyes and look at me. I'm right here. I've come back."

"Aaron, Evelyn just has a fever. Don't worry too much," Landon comforted him softly, though he was also extremely anxious.

"Evelyn went through a lot today. She almost fell off a cliff." Edward gazed deeply at Evelyn.

Even now, thinking of that terrifying moment, he still felt a lingering fear.

Landon and Aaron were both stunned, filled with dread.

"I just lent a hand. The one who truly saved her was herself." Edward added.

"Edward, you really deserve to die." Aaron cursed, "All the suffering, pain, and grievances Evelyn has endured in her life are because of you."

"I know, it's all my fault." Having gone through so much, Edward had long seen and understood how cold and cruel he had been. He accepted all the blame calmly.

"Why did you marry her if you didn't love her? Why give her so much hope?" Aaron glared at him with hatred, tears streaming down his face, "It's because of you that she has a special attachment and feelings for this mountain. She has lived her whole life for you, and what have you done for her?"
