Chapter 400: Stop Humiliating Me!

During the day, William and Landon left, leaving Jennifer to take care of Evelyn at the hospital.

Naturally, Ulysses couldn't feel at ease with the two girls alone in the hospital, even though Landon had left his bodyguard. He still couldn't relax.

It was late at night.

On the long bench in the corridor, Ulysses sat side by side with Jennifer. Jennifer had been watching over Evelyn all day and was now so tired that her head was nodding, her eyelids drooping, and she was struggling to stay awake.

Her drowsy look was quite adorable.

Finally, Jennifer, too sleepy to hold on, leaned her head on Ulysses' shoulder.

Ulysses was momentarily stunned, looking gently at his half-sister, not daring to move.

From childhood to adulthood, his attitude towards Charlie's other children had always been rather indifferent, as if he didn't consider them family.

But as time passed and he experienced so much, his mindset subtly changed.

Who knew how long had passed when Jennifer suddenly woke up with a start.

She sat up straight, staring blankly ahead, and wiped the drool from the corner of her mouth.

"Why did you wake up? Sleep a bit more." Ulysses couldn't help but chuckle at her dazed look, just like Evelyn when she was little.

"I'm sorry, Ulysses!" Jennifer panicked, seeing her drool on Ulysses' shoulder, her face turning as red as a peach, "I dirtied your clothes. I'll wash them for you! I'm sorry!"

Seeing her so flustered, Ulysses couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for her.

They always revolved around Evelyn, always subconsciously thinking the youngest in the family was Evelyn.

Little did they know, Jennifer, the youngest and most in need of care in the Taylor family, was often overlooked.

"It's okay, it's nothing." Ulysses smiled gently like a big brother and patted his thigh, "Come, lie here and sleep. It's more comfortable."

Jennifer's face turned even redder, "No, I can't."

"Evelyn used to sleep on my lap all the time, and she slept so soundly."

Jennifer bit her moist lips, her hands nervously twisting together, turning red.

Ulysses knew she didn't dare and couldn't.

She was just a half-sister. In Jennifer's eyes, having him acknowledge her as his sister was already enough.

Ulysses sighed lightly, took off his coat, and draped it over her shoulders, wrapping her small frame.

"Ulysses, I'm not cold. You wear it." Jennifer said, trying to take it off.

"Be good, wear it." Ulysses looked at her gently, pressing her shoulder, "If you really consider me your brother."

Hearing this, Jennifer didn't refuse anymore, feeling a warmth in her heart, even tears welling up in her eyes.

Because of Evelyn, she also had a brother who cared for her.

At this moment, a commotion came from not far away.

"Jennifer, wait here. I'll go check it out."

Ulysses stood up and walked out with large strides.

When he saw Edward and Eric, his expression turned icy, his handsome features dark and cold.

"It's him!" Eric recognized Ulysses at a glance, remembering the time he beat Edward nearly to death, and goosebumps rose all over him!

"You still have the nerve to come here?" Ulysses' muscles tensed, his eyes fierce as he walked straight up to Edward, "Get out now, before I get angry. Disappear from here immediately!"

Edward raised his pale, sorrowful face, his throat choking, "I want to see Evelyn. I have something to say to her."

"She has nothing to say to you. Get out." Ulysses glared fiercely.

"No." Edward took a deep breath, his eyes bloodshot, "I won't leave until I see her!"

As he spoke, he tried to force his way in, like a madman.

Ulysses intended to stop him, but Eric, prepared, took out a stun baton and jabbed it into Ulysses' lower back!

Ulysses' body convulsed heavily, falling to the ground, paralyzed and unable to stand!

"Sorry, but you'll have to lie down and rest for a bit. This thing doesn't cause any harm."

Eric smugly raised his eyes, weighing the stun baton in his hand, "The Taylor family, with such high combat skills, I had to use some special means to break through your fortress."

"Despicable!" Ulysses glared at him, his eyes alone could tear him apart!

"For my only friend, I'll be despicable this once." Eric shrugged helplessly.

Edward ran to Evelyn's room but was stopped by Jennifer.

"I want to see Evelyn." Edward looked down at Jennifer's innocent face, sweat dripping down his haggard cheeks.

Jennifer bit her lip.

"Please." Edward's hoarse plea came from deep in his throat, "Let me see her."

He couldn't bring himself to hurt a girl; he could only beg her.

Jennifer stared deeply at Edward for a long time, sighed, and stepped aside.

"Thank you."

Edward was about to push the door open when Jennifer suddenly said, "If you knew this would happen, why did you do it in the first place?"

Edward's body froze, his chest heaving, his red eyes filled with shattered tears.

The moment Edward entered the room, Evelyn's beautiful face turned cold.

The kind of distance and resistance pierced through his heart.

Gilbert glanced at Edward with contempt, his lips curling down, the look of seeing an enemy.

Edward was stunned, meeting Gilbert's gaze.

"Edward, I don't want to see you. Please leave." Evelyn's eyes reddened, directly asked him to go.

"I have something to say to you." Edward's Adam's apple moved with difficulty, his voice hoarse beyond words.

"Get out!" Evelyn sat up abruptly, shouting at him, pounding the bed with her fists.

"Evelyn! Your body hasn't recovered, don't get agitated! Calm down!" Gilbert quickly held her trembling shoulders, full of concern.

Evelyn's hysterical state almost tore Edward's soul apart.

He stiffly took a step towards her, his feet feeling like they were filled with lead, his vision blurred, "I came to say I'm sorry. Two years ago, what I did to you was wrong. I hurt you, Evelyn, I'm sorry."

Gilbert's brows furrowed deeply at these seemingly random words.

Two years ago, they hadn't divorced yet. What happened that Edward needed to apologize for?

The next second, Gilbert clearly felt Evelyn's body trembling more violently, her eyes bloodshot, staring at Edward with a look of deep pain.

Suddenly, she grabbed the water cup from the bedside table, raised her slender arm, and threw it at Edward!

With Edward's quick reflexes, he could have easily dodged, but he didn't. He just stood there, letting the ceramic cup hit his forehead, then fall to the ground, shattering into pieces.

His clean, handsome forehead immediately swelled up.

But Edward didn't feel the pain; his mind was blank.

"Edward, who wants to hear this? Who cares about your apology?"

He stared blankly at Evelyn, seeing her eyes full of tears, his heart breaking.

"We ended long ago. Stop tormenting me!"
