Chapter 418 A Trip to the Police Station

"About Kimberly... I heard." William thought of Kimberly, who had taken a bullet for Evelyn, and his heart ached unbearably. "Is there any news on the murderer?"

"It shouldn't be long now. I'm currently keeping a 24-hour close watch on Tiffany and Debra's every move. Tiffany went out tonight, likely to meet Lloyd. I expect my people will bring back news soon."

Edward's eyes burned with a sharp, cold light. "Don't worry, I want that murderer's life more than anyone. I've looked into his background; Kimberly isn't his only victim. He's a notorious criminal."

"The reason he's been able to stay by Tiffany's side for so many years without incident is because Tiffany cleaned up his record and gave him a new identity."

"Tiffany is quite a character. It's a waste for her to just be your stepmother." Ulysses sneered, "The Wellington family sure has its share of villains."

William nodded in agreement.

Edward remained silent.

"Next time I get a chance to see Tiffany, I need to thank her," Ulysses said sarcastically.

"Thank her?" Edward frowned.

"Evelyn's been married to you for three years, stayed in your house for three years. Shouldn't I thank her for not killing Evelyn?"

Edward fell silent again.

Ulysses's words were too sharp.

Back in military school, he was a man of few words, even more silent than Edward. It turned out it was all an act.

Just then, the hospital room door opened, startling them all.

Evelyn had changed out of her loose hospital gown and was now wearing a black suit. Her face was bare of makeup, yet she was still stunningly beautiful.

She stood there silently, her expression solemn, as if she were paying silent tribute to Kimberly.

Edward's heart raced, his ears turning red as he gazed at Evelyn.

His lips parted slightly, almost calling her name, but he couldn't muster the courage.

The situation had been chaotic then, and he had a reason to be close to her. But now, what reason did he have?

"William, are you okay?" Evelyn's sorrowful gaze fell on William's left shoulder, her voice choked with emotion.

"I'm fine, Evelyn."

William wanted to lift his arm to show her, but he couldn't, so he smiled awkwardly. "Don't worry, I'll be back to normal soon and continue working for you."

"Once your arm heals, you shouldn't stay by my side as a secretary anymore."

"Evelyn, you don't want me anymore?"

William's lips trembled as he stumbled toward Evelyn, dragging his heavy body. "Are you abandoning me? I admit my skills are lacking. Please give me another chance. I'll train hard in combat skills! I can protect you!"

Edward's brow furrowed, feeling a mix of sour, bitter emotions.

Evelyn never lacked people willing to protect her. What he did for her seemed insignificant.

"William, you've misunderstood." Evelyn gave a bitter smile. "I'll be joining KnightSpear Group to take over Landon's position. Having you as my secretary would be a waste of your talents. I want you to head the legal department, where you can fully utilize your expertise. There, you can still help me and my father. Isn't that good?"

For a normal person, hearing this arrangement would be thrilling, but William looked crestfallen. To him, it seemed Evelyn didn't want him anymore.

She never knew what he truly wanted.

What he wanted was to stay by her side for a long time.

But after what happened last time, he felt he couldn't protect Evelyn anymore.

And the person who could protect Evelyn was right in front of him.

With this thought, William's eyes reddened with tears as he looked at Edward.

Edward, at that moment, was staring intently at Evelyn.

No matter when or where, as long as Evelyn was there, Edward's eyes were only on her.

"In any case, the most important thing now is for you to heal. That's more important than anything."

Evelyn composed herself and smiled warmly. "You need to come back to me healthy and whole. KnightSpear Group doesn't keep idle people."

William could see that Evelyn had made up her mind and could only nod heavily.

"Ulysses, is Kimberly's body in the morgue?" Evelyn asked Ulysses, her voice hoarse.

"Yes. We notified her grandmother yesterday, and she's coming to Mugden to claim the body."

Ulysses looked somber. "She begged us to get justice for Kimberly."

"Kimberly's funeral should be grand and dignified. We need to take care of her family's needs. Kimberly's grandmother won't ask for much, but we need to consider everything and fulfill all her needs."

"Got it, don't worry."

Ulysses looked at her in surprise. "Are you planning to leave the hospital dressed like that? Landon strictly forbade you from leaving. If you go, he'll kill me!"

"Every day I lie here, watching the sunrise and sunset, living passively. It's meaningless. Is my phone fixed?"

Evelyn suddenly changed the subject, catching Ulysses off guard. " It's fixed, but not by me."

"Who then?" Evelyn frowned.

"Peter. Kimberly's phone is evidence and had to be taken to the evidence department for repair and inspection. But he told me last night that it was almost fixed. We should have results today."

Evelyn's eyes darkened as she walked straight to Edward, looking up to meet his gaze.

Edward's heart trembled at her look, his fingers curling tightly into his palms.

"Edward, come with me to the police station." Evelyn's gaze was heavy with determination, as if she could see through his soul, making it impossible to refuse. "We need to cooperate with the investigation, and there's something important you need to know."
