Chapter 461 How Could It Have Nothing to Do with Me?
Patrick glared at his troublesome son, his expression stormy.
Behind him, aside from Carl and the bodyguards, stood Debra, her face full of resentment.
Debra hadn't wanted to come see Tiffany. Since the horse race, she hadn't left Riverside Villa even once.
Tiffany, her own mother, had utterly disgraced herself!
These past few days, Debra hadn't dared to look at Twitter or watch TV. Even glancing at her social media, she saw people making snide comments about Tiffany.
She had blocked her Mugden social circle, but they were constantly gossiping about her and her mother.
[Poor Mrs. Wellington. Mr. Wellington probably hasn't touched her in ages. Who else would be so desperate to pleasure themselves, and so passionately at that?]
[Middle-aged women who have had kids are just like sex slaves to men. Even a former star like Mrs. Wellington couldn't escape that fate.]
[What does age have to do with it? Mrs. Wellington is a drug addict and incontinent. If I were Mr. Wellington, I'd kick her out. What a disgrace!]
[The real pity is Debra. She doesn't even have a boyfriend, and now her mom's been arrested in front of everyone. What wealthy family would want to marry into that mess? So embarrassing!]
Her once-close friends were now mercilessly mocking her.
But at this moment, Debra had to show that she cared deeply about Tiffany's situation. No matter Patrick's attitude towards Tiffany, she needed him to see her as a devoted, loyal daughter, far better than that foolish Molly!
Debra had just witnessed Edward attacking Gordon, and they all heard every word Edward said.
She couldn't help but sneer inwardly.
'Edward, go ahead and make a scene for that worthless woman. In the end, Patrick will despise you, and your position as CEO won't last long!'
"What I'm doing is quite clear, isn't it?" Edward's face was cold as ice, his eyes narrowed.
"Do you know your status? This is a police station! You're acting like a street thug. It's disgraceful! Foolish!"
Patrick had started to see Edward differently after he failed Amanda, but now, seeing him act so recklessly for Evelyn, Patrick found him utterly detestable again.
Peter and the surrounding officers heard the absurd comments from the chairman of the Wellington Group and shook their heads in disdain.
"What kind of leader is Mr. Wellington? And he runs a corporation? Unbelievable."
"Exactly. It's not just about the act of violence; he only cares about status and reputation. His values are incomprehensible!"
"These tycoons are truly heartless. Hopeless!"
Patrick wasn't deaf; he heard bits and pieces, which made him even angrier with Edward!
"I know my status." Edward didn't hesitate to return to Evelyn's side, firmly holding her hand.
Edward looked at her with a gentle smile, "I'm the man of Ms. Taylor. My woman was scared by this jerk. Shouldn't I hit him?"
Evelyn's heart raced, her small hand curling in his large palm.
"You!" Patrick was stunned.
"If your woman were humiliated by such a scumbag, could you remain indifferent?" Edward suddenly smiled, "Oh, right, you value your reputation above all else. Of course, you wouldn't care."
Everyone was shocked! The conflict between Patrick and Edward had escalated to a confrontation!
Patrick was left speechless by Edward's retort. At that moment, Debra stepped forward to defend Patrick, "Edward, how can you talk to Dad like that? Hitting someone is wrong, and it affects the company's image. What's wrong with Dad criticizing you? Are you really willing to ruin your reputation for a woman?"
Evelyn couldn't stand seeing her man being criticized by someone like Debra, but this was a family matter of the Wellington family. Even though she and Edward had pledged their lives to each other, she had no right to intervene.
If she stepped in now, it would only worsen Edward's relationship with Patrick.
She wasn't afraid of Patrick looking down on her, but she feared that Edward would face even more difficulties in the Wellington Group.
"The person being criticized? You must be talking about Tiffany."
Edward didn't even glance at Debra, his voice cold and threatening, "I advise you to behave. If you keep trying to clear Tiffany's name, I'll make sure you follow in her footsteps, and you two can keep each other company in prison."
This wasn't just for Debra; it was also for Patrick.
In other words, Tiffany was beyond saving!
"Edward! You... you... How dare you!"
Debra was so angry that she stomped her feet, grabbed Patrick's arm, and shook it, almost in tears, "Dad! What is Edward saying? He wants to destroy my mom, your wife! He wants to destroy not just Mom, but me too! What did I do to deserve this? Who's really being cruel here?"
Patrick's mind was even more muddled and irritated, unable to free his arm.
"Mr. Wellington... Mr. Wellington..."
Gordon saw the father-son relationship deteriorating and thought he had an opportunity.
He quickly got up from the ground, wiping his bloody nose, and stood before Patrick, "Mr. Wellington... I've always worked tirelessly for you and the Wellington Group. You know that. I understand Edward has deep-seated grudges against Tiffany, but as a lawyer, I'm just doing my job... Yet Edward took out his anger on me. Mr. Patrick Wellington, I'm so wronged!"
Patrick glanced at Gordon, whose face was covered in blood, and couldn't bear to look a second time. He said flatly, "Gordon, I'm sorry. I'll handle this matter."
Edward had grown utterly disgusted with everything about the Wellington family.
"Evelyn, let's get out of here."
He didn't want to stay in the same environment as Patrick any longer. Holding Evelyn's hand, he walked out boldly, ignoring the stares from everyone around them.
As they passed Gordon, Edward paused and said casually, "Send your medical bills to my secretary. Getting hit by me is a rare opportunity; make sure you ask for a lot."
Gordon's face contorted with rage, aggravating his injuries and nearly making him cry out in pain.
Evelyn followed obediently behind Edward, her eyes fixed on his broad shoulders.
Peter watched in astonishment.
Evelyn had always been different from other girls, with a strong personality and self-awareness. But now, in front of Edward, she was completely gentle and demure. It was so unusual that Peter almost wanted to take a picture to remember it!
"Ms. Taylor," Patrick suddenly called out coldly.
Both of them stopped.
Edward tensed up immediately, pulling Evelyn protectively into his arms.
"Mr. Wellington, do you have something to say?" Evelyn asked calmly, without a hint of fear.
"Do you dare say that the events at the horse race, the public video, her arrest, and Percy testifying had nothing to do with you?" Patrick gritted his teeth, furious.
Edward's brows furrowed, "Mr. Wellington, if you have something to say, say it to me. Don't trouble Evelyn."
But Evelyn remained composed, even smiling at Patrick.
"How could it have nothing to do with me? It has everything to do with me."
Everyone was stunned.
The Wellington Group members were dumbfounded, and even Edward was surprised by her candor!
Debra seized the opportunity, shouting angrily, "Evelyn! So it was you who framed my mother! I knew she was innocent, and it was all your doing! How could you be so vicious? You've turned our family upside down, and now you're seducing Edward to achieve your dirty, ugly goals! You're a devil!"
Peter couldn't hold back any longer and was about to speak up for Evelyn when she calmly said, "Mr. Wellington, Percy is indeed my person. But from the moment Tiffany approached him, obtained drugs, became addicted, and later took risks to get more, including the deal on the day of the horse race... all of it was her voluntary actions. No one forced her. This was indeed a setup, but Tiffany had the choice from the beginning."
With that, Edward gently wrapped his arm around Evelyn's shoulder and led her out of the police station.
"Dad! Are you just going to let her go? She's the one who framed Mom!" Debra cried out desperately.
Carl couldn't stand it anymore and sarcastically remarked, "Ms. Taylor's words need evidence to back them up. If you can't provide proof, please be careful with your accusations, or Ms. Taylor could sue you for defamation."
Debra glared at Carl.
"Peter, I want to see your chief," Patrick said coldly, looking at Peter.
Peter stood tall, arms crossed, leaning against the wall. "The chief isn't here. He's very busy and has gone out."
"Then call him now and tell him to come back immediately to see me."
"Sorry, I'm just a low-ranking officer. I don't have the authority to summon the chief at will."
Peter yawned and waved his hand dismissively, "If you want to find him, call him yourself."
Patrick's anger flared even more at this disrespect!
He knew this kid was Charlie's second wife's son, Evelyn's brother, and wouldn't show him any courtesy.
Debra continued to whine, "Dad... Evelyn doesn't respect you at all... Are we just going to let her manipulate the Wellington Group and do whatever she wants?"
"Absolutely not. No way." Patrick's face was ashen, his teeth nearly grinding to dust. "I know what she wants. She wants to marry Edward again. But she can forget it. I will never allow such a scheming woman to join the Wellington family. Even if Byron supports her, it won't happen!"
On the way home, Evelyn leaned softly against Edward, tracing circles on his firm chest with her fingers.
"Don't keep antagonizing your dad because of me."
"I'm not afraid," Edward replied hoarsely, lowering his head to kiss her forehead.
"Patrick is still the chairman. The Wellington Group is under his control. Aren't you afraid he'll fire you in a fit of anger and hand the billion-dollar business to your brother?" Evelyn voiced her concern seriously.
"If Patrick really intends to discard me, if I'm no longer the CEO of the Wellington Group, then you might have to support me," Edward said with a bitter smile.
"The Taylor family doesn't support freeloaders," Evelyn teased, raising an eyebrow.
"I can do my part. I'm very capable," he said, his chest muscles tightening, making her fingers bounce.
"How capable?"
Edward's large hand gripped her slender waist, lifting her into his arms. His eyes were filled with intense desire as he whispered, "You'll find out when we get home."
Evelyn's cheeks flushed, and she wrapped her arms around his neck, kissing him deeply.
The car stopped in front of the villa.
Bart got out first to open the door for Edward and Evelyn. He noticed a black limited-edition Rolls-Royce parked at the entrance. Even in the dim light, the car exuded an imposing presence.
As Edward stepped out with Evelyn in his arms, the door of the Rolls-Royce opened simultaneously.
"Evelyn."
Both of them froze, and Evelyn's eyes widened in surprise. She quickly jumped down from Edward.
"Dad...?"
