Chapter 587 Perfect Match, Incredible!
Evelyn slept in until the afternoon.
She had trouble waking up, but Edward was a light sleeper, only needing three or four hours before he was up.
After waking, he didn't leave the room. Instead, he quietly sat on the couch, handling urgent matters from his company remotely while keeping an eye on her.
"Ah!"
Suddenly, Evelyn woke with a start, sitting up abruptly in bed.
Edward immediately put down his papers and quickly walked over to the bed to hold her, gently asking, "Evelyn, what's wrong? Did you have a nightmare?"
Evelyn clutched her chest, her face red like a cherry, and grabbed his hand. "Edward, you... You won't believe what I dreamed about!"
Edward's throat tightened as he leaned in to kiss her, but she dodged him. "I dreamed that Landon and Adrian got married!"
"What?" Edward was stunned, staring at her.
"We all went to their wedding, and I even caught Adrian's bouquet!"
Edward was speechless.
"Just as they were about to kiss… I woke up! Ugh! Why did I have to wake up at the best part?" Evelyn ran her fingers through her hair in frustration, her heart still racing.
"Evelyn, you're too cute."
Edward sat on the edge of the bed, wrapping an arm around her shoulder and gently tapping her forehead with his finger. "What goes on in that little head of yours every day?"
"I was so exhausted when we got back that I fell asleep the moment I closed my eyes. But I have so much to talk to you about."
Evelyn swallowed nervously, locking eyes with him. "I have this feeling that Adrian likes Landon. And Landon doesn't seem to mind him at all.
Last night at the police station, they came in together, and I don't know why, but they seemed so close. Even though they didn't do anything, I just felt they were so in sync, so perfect for each other!"
Edward didn't dismiss her words as mere post-sleep ramblings. He didn't brush her off; instead, he seriously pondered her thoughts.
"I know Mr. Mays's orientation, but Landon isn't like that."
"That's true. Maybe I'm just confused, but I had such a vivid dream."
Evelyn sighed, taking a deep breath. "Growing up, I always thought Landon was the best man in our family, and no woman was good enough for him. It's not that those girls weren't good, just that something always felt off.
But that subtle sense of perfect compatibility, I felt it with Adrian. It's really unbelievable."
"Evelyn, even if it's true, would you be unable to accept it?"
Evelyn shook her head repeatedly. "I'm worried Charlie wouldn't be able to accept it. Landon says he has faith, so he doesn't plan to marry or have kids, which Charlie has reluctantly accepted. But if Landon likes men…
Ugh, what am I thinking? Even if it's true, Charlie has slowly accepted you, so what's there that he can't accept?"
Edward wasn't sure whether to laugh or cry.
Just then, May's concerned voice came from outside the door:
"Mr. Wellington, Mrs. Wellington, are you awake? Come down and have some food before you go back to sleep."
Edward looked helpless, and Evelyn clutched the blanket in embarrassment.
After a quick wash, Evelyn changed clothes and went downstairs to eat with Edward.
It had been a while since she tasted May's cooking, and she ate heartily while May watched her with loving eyes.
"Wow… this is amazing!"
Evelyn licked her lips and let out a small burp, then eagerly held out her plate to May. "May, can I get another plate, piled high?"
"Of course, Mrs. Wellington!" May replied, delighted.
Like all elders, seeing the young ones eat heartily always brightened their mood.
"Evelyn, slow down a bit." Edward's voice was filled with affection as he pulled out a napkin and carefully wiped the grease from her lips.
"Why are you eating so little? Are you trying to lose weight?" Evelyn leaned toward him, enjoying the pampering.
"I'm just not that hungry."
"If you weren't hungry, you should have told me earlier. May's fried fish and shrimp are so good. I saved some for you, worried you wouldn't have enough."
Evelyn reached for the fried fish. "If you're not eating, I'll eat it all!"
Edward's deep eyes overflowed with tenderness, almost melting her.
This was how it should be. He wanted her to be completely herself with him. He didn't want her to be overly gentle or considerate; he just wanted her to be free and true to herself.
After a satisfying meal, Evelyn lay contentedly on the living room sofa.
Edward took the fruit platter May had prepared and was about to carry it to Evelyn when May suddenly pulled him aside, lowering her voice:
"Sir, I've asked some old friends in Mugden who work as housekeepers for wealthy families. Many of them have dealt with issues related to having children.
They recommended a few methods to me. I'll send them to you later; maybe they'll help Mrs. Wellington."
"May." Edward's face darkened slightly.
May raised three fingers, her eyes full of concern. "Sir, I swear to God, I only said it was a relative's child who was sick, and I didn't mention Mrs. Wellington! Plus, these are friends I've known for years. They wouldn't have any ill intentions!"
Edward's lips tightened, his brows furrowing in displeasure. "May, I've told you more than once.
I don't care if Evelyn can get pregnant or not. No matter what, I love her. Even if I can't add to the Wellington family's lineage, even if Patrick takes back my position as CEO because of it, I wouldn't mind.
I just want Evelyn to be safe and happy by my side. Raising a child is hard work, and trying various methods just to have a baby would be not only hard but painful. I can't bear to see Evelyn suffer, not even a little."
"Sir… didn't you contact Avalonia about it? I thought I could help." May's voice choked.
It wasn't out of feeling wronged, but out of deep concern for Evelyn.
"I canceled it."
Edward lowered his lashes, shaking his head. "At that time, I thought the same as you. I wanted to heal Evelyn, partly to restore her health and partly to make amends.
But I gradually realized that doing so only brought up her painful memories repeatedly and made her think I cared too much about having a child."
"I wasn't thinking clearly."
May rubbed her sore eyes. "Let's not talk about it anymore. As long as you and Mrs. Wellington can be together forever… what else matters?"
Edward steadied his emotions and carried the fruit to the living room.
He was so engrossed in his conversation with May that he didn't notice Bart had arrived.
"Mr. Wellington, Mrs. Wellington, I have a few matters to report to you both!"
