Chapter 586 His Eyes
Evelyn and the others followed William's intense gaze.
There she was, Jennifer, standing under the dim streetlight, her slender figure looking fragile. The evening breeze tousled her soft, long hair, revealing her pale face still streaked with tears.
"William..."
Her voice was hoarse as she responded to his call, tears continuing to fall.
Her frail form seemed ready to be swallowed by the night, so pitiful it could break anyone's heart.
William ran to her, ignoring everything else, his eyes red, embracing her with all his strength, as if he wanted to squeeze out every drop of her blood.
"It's so late, why did you come here? It's not safe," he said, trying to steady his voice but unable to control his erratic breathing.
"William, I just wanted to wait for you... I missed you..." Jennifer cried harder, her tears soaking his shoulder.
In fact, she had been standing there waiting since before nightfall. She had made the calls to Evelyn and Edward for help from this very spot.
She had been waiting all along, waiting for William to come out with his head held high.
She didn't know how long she would have to wait, but no matter how long, she was willing to wait.
"I missed you too... I'm going crazy," William said, his eyes full of pain, gently wiping away her tears.
His hand pressed suddenly against her waist, his damp eyes lowered, and he kissed her deeply, passionately, and longingly.
Evelyn watched the two lovers reunite after their ordeal, smiling through her own tears, rubbing her sore eyes, "This is wonderful."
Edward wrapped his arm around her waist, his lips brushing her ear, whispering hoarsely, "Evelyn, when we get home, I'll give you something even better."
Evelyn nestled into his embrace, her face flushing with a shy red hue.
"Evelyn, you two go home and rest. We're heading back to Hameen. We'll be in touch if anything comes up," Adrian said, waving at them with a smile.
"Adrian."
Evelyn no longer pretended to be the aloof heiress in front of him, "Thank you so much for this. Tell me, how can I repay you?"
Adrian's captivating eyes blinked, glancing deeply at Landon's back.
But he couldn't bring himself to speak, afraid of scaring her.
"You're Landon's sister. It's my duty to help. No need to thank me."
Evelyn and Edward returned to their cozy home in Mugden.
Landon and Adrian shared a car, while William and Jennifer were together, heading toward Hameen.
The dark sky was beginning to lighten, like a vast, serene expanse of deep blue velvet.
Adrian lowered the car window, his alluring, lazy eyes narrowed, resting his chin on his hand, gazing at the distant, mysterious sky.
It felt so refreshing, so exhilarating.
For the past twenty-seven years, he had been immersed in academic research and the materialistic, fast-paced world, with extreme stimulation and profound solitude pulling at his nerves, making him live each day like he was on the verge of a breakdown, his personality becoming increasingly eccentric.
He had met countless people, yet still felt as lonely as an old man nearing the end of his days.
The more people he met, the tighter his heart locked. Until he met them, met him.
Adrian's eyes lingered, filled with emotion, as he glanced at the calm, composed man beside him.
What should he do? He loved him so much.
Loved him to the point that he wanted to give up everything he had in Mythorica and come back to stay with him forever.
"Mr. Mays," Landon finally broke the silence.
"Finally remembered I'm still here?" Adrian teased, turning to look at Landon's handsome profile. "You've left me hanging for over half an hour. I was gonna give you one more minute, and if you still ignored me, I'd never talk to you again."
Landon's heart trembled at Adrian's playful tone, but he kept his voice steady. "Do you often have afternoon tea with the ladies?"
"Yep."
"You're so young, spending all your time with women. Isn't it boring?" Landon's gaze was ambiguous. "You're free and unrestrained in Mythorica. Don't feel constrained when you come back."
"Think you can handle my constraints?" Adrian's lazy tone teased him, his seductive demeanor hard to resist.
Landon's throat tightened, but he kept his voice cold. "That's your problem, not mine."
"True, Mr. Taylor is always busy, with so many things to manage. How could he have any energy left to think of me?" Adrian's tone couldn't hide his disappointment.
Landon pressed his lips together, hesitating.
"I want to get closer to the elders in the family. If we really become a family, it will save me the trouble of building relationships. That's what social etiquette is all about, Mr. Taylor."
Family?
Landon's thoughts were in turmoil when Adrian leaned closer, his enticing voice whispering in his ear. "But my Aunt married into your family, so we're already family."
In the dimly lit car, Landon sat upright, while Adrian's eyes held hidden affection.
"Joyce says you love dried fruits."
Landon stared straight ahead, his muscles tense under his suit. "Yeah, I've loved them since I was a kid. Hazelnuts, pistachios."
Adrian, though a man, showed a girlish excitement. "When I was little, Aunt used to shell them for me. She never complained, and only stopped when I was full."
Landon looked at him deeply, his voice hoarse. "Next time, I'll shell them for you."
Adrian's heart leaped with joy, his fingers tracing Landon's chiseled jaw, his warm breath hovering over his cool lips. "Alright, I want to eat them, but only if you shell them for me."
Landon clenched his fists, seeing through his heart. He didn't just look forward to his promise; he yearned for him.
When Evelyn returned home, she was exhausted, complaining all the way about how tired she was.
Firstly, she was genuinely tired.
Secondly, she was subtly signaling to Edward not to tire her out once they were in bed.
Edward carried her all the way from the car, her slender legs swinging, high heels falling off one by one.
Edward didn't have time to worry about them, so Bart had to follow behind, picking up her shoes.
Back in their room, they showered, and Edward patiently waited for Evelyn to finish her skincare routine, from her hair to her nails.
By then, the sky was completely bright.
They lay down, tired, Edward eagerly pulling Evelyn into his arms, Evelyn using his muscular arm as a pillow, closing her eyes in a daze.
"You're quite well-behaved today."
Edward kissed her forehead, smiling. "If I weren't, you'd only get to sleep in the afternoon."
"Good thing you're sensible sometimes."
Evelyn mumbled, pecking his lips. "Good morning, sleep now."
Then, she fell asleep instantly.
Edward listened to her sweet, even breathing, his deep eyes filled with tenderness. "Good morning, my dear wife."
