Chapter 543 Why Don't You Go Die?

"Landon."

Edward's voice was so raspy it sounded like it had been dragged through gravel, barely audible.

"Edward!"

Landon's eyes were bloodshot with rage, his heart burning with fury. Like a wild beast, he charged straight at the motionless Edward!

Edward saw the cold, hard fist coming towards his face, but he didn't move an inch.

'Go ahead, hit me. I deserve it.'

Even if Landon beat him to death, he wouldn't utter a single complaint.

"Landon! Stop!"

Just as Landon's iron fist was inches from Edward's face, Adrian appeared just in time, wrapping his arms tightly around Landon from behind.

"Let go of me," Landon growled, his lips bleeding, his heart aching.

"No way!"

Adrian's arms trembled as he held onto Landon's waist, panting heavily. "What good will it do to hit him? Will hitting him bring back what Evelyn lost?"

"But... he deserves to die!"

Landon's cheeks twitched with anger, his strong body struggling violently. Tears he had managed to hold back now streamed down his face. "Why doesn't he just die?

"Evelyn... Evelyn can never have children again!"

"She's only twenty-five and has lost the chance to be a mother forever! All because of you, Edward! Why don't you just die?"

"Why don't you just die?"

Yes, he truly deserved to die. Edward stood lifeless, his eyes dull and desolate, as if covered in frost.

Adrian noticed how disheveled Edward looked.

His once pristine suit was soaked, his pants and shoes caked in mud, filthy beyond recognition.

It had just rained.

Edward had chased the Taylor family's car through the pouring rain for miles, but he never even got to see Evelyn.

"I'm sorry... It's all my fault... It's all my fault." He kept mumbling, lost in despair. "It's all my fault... I'm guilty... I'm sorry."

"Edward, do you know how much Evelyn loves kids? Do you know how much she wanted to have a child with you?"

Landon, a tall and strong man, was now crying uncontrollably, tears streaming down his face. "For the three years she was your wife, she told us countless times... she wanted to be a mom... she even called me late at night, crying secretly because of your coldness and your sham of a marriage."

Edward's heart wrenched, as if a poisoned blade was slicing through him, the pain spreading through his entire body, overwhelming his senses.

His eyes reddened, his shoulders trembling violently.

All he could feel was pain, excruciating pain, as if the world was collapsing around him.

"I didn't know... I really didn't know." Edward's tears welled up, his pale lips trembling, almost incoherent. "If I had known... I..."

"You didn't know?" Landon laughed bitterly, his anger boiling over. "You didn't know you had a one-night stand with Evelyn? You didn't know she was pregnant with your child? Are you kidding me, or are you just that clueless?

"But no matter which it is, I can't forgive you."

"If I let Evelyn be with a heartless guy like you, I don't deserve to be her brother!"

Adrian sighed helplessly.

He had been back in the country for a while, experiencing many harrowing events with them, fully aware of how much Edward loved Evelyn.

But... the three years of a hopeless marriage had hurt Evelyn too deeply.

If he were in her shoes, even if he loved this man deeply, he would still be in constant pain, unable to bear the thought of never being able to have children. That kind of self-torment would erode the happiness of love day by day.

What a tragic pair, what an unsolvable problem.

But Adrian feared things would get worse, so he could only plead, "Landon, no matter what, Edward saved your life. If it weren't for him risking his life, you wouldn't be here. I wouldn't have seen you again! You'll only cause more pain for everyone! Including Evelyn!"

Landon's eyes were still bloodshot, but he slowly lowered his fist.

"Edward, you saved my life, so I'll let you go. But from now on, don't ever show your face to me or Evelyn again. I can forgive all the past hurts you caused her. But this one, I can't forgive."

With that, Landon gritted his teeth and turned to leave.

Adrian looked at the pale-faced Edward and could only follow suit.

"Please... give me one more chance, one last chance to make things right!"

Edward's cheeks were streaked with tears, just like Evelyn had begged him not to divorce her, even more pitiful than she had been. "I really... really love Evelyn. Please give me one more chance, just one more! Let me atone, let me make it right!"

"Fine." Landon's voice was cold and mocking. "Give me back my sister's healthy body, a healthy womb. Then I won't stop you from being together."

Edward couldn't remember how he walked out of the parking lot.

The long-forgotten severe headache returned, his ears buzzing as if countless nightmares were mocking his stupidity.

'Edward, you deserve this, you really deserve this!'

'You deserve to die!'

"Edward!" Eric had been shouting his name countless times from behind, but Edward heard nothing, standing in the rain like a lifeless shell.

Suddenly, the headache intensified, and Edward swayed!

The rain-soaked scene before him blurred and overlapped, as if time and space were distorted.

If Eric hadn't rushed to his side to support him, he might have fallen heavily into the puddle in front of him!

"Edward! Hold on!" Eric held his trembling body tightly, his eyes full of worry. "You can't give up on Evelyn, and you can't give up on yourself!"

"Can't you see? Evelyn still loves you deeply, even now. If you love her too, you have to pull yourself together and face all the challenges!"

"Her body... I ruined it... Eric, what should I do?"

Edward's handsome face was deathly pale. "What should I do? How can I give her back... what she lost?"

"There must be a way! With today's advanced medical technology, what can't be cured with money? Even terminal illnesses can have their lives extended for years with enough money!"

"We'll find a way together, Evelyn's body can definitely recover! But if you give up on her, then you'll truly be harming her, and it'll be over for both of you!" Eric shouted anxiously in the rain.

Edward clutched his head, gasping in pain. "Back then... I told Evelyn I liked kids, I even said I wanted to have kids with her..."

"If I had known... if I had known it would be like this, why did I mention kids? Why did I bring it up? A lifetime without kids, so what? How could I be so selfish!"

Eric felt a deep sorrow, shaking his head in frustration.

Evelyn had already shown great courage by deciding to let go of all her emotional baggage and love Edward again.

However, even so, every time Edward mentioned children, her heart must have ached.

"Edward, I think right now, you need to find out what really happened when Evelyn lost the baby. Only then can we start treatment!"

Edward pulled at his hair, trying to recall everything.

The medical report said Evelyn's baby was two months old when she lost it.

So, two months after they had been together, what had happened?

"Mr. Wellington!" Bart ran over, panting in the rain, full of worry. "Mr. Byron Wellington couldn't reach you, so he had Tyler contact me. Mr. Byron Wellington knows what happened at the party and wants you to meet him at Half Moon Bay immediately!"

Jessica's revelation of Evelyn's infertility at the Wilsons' party had spread like wildfire that night.

Due to the high security at the event, there were no media present, and the guests, fearing the power of the Taylor and Clark families, didn't dare leak any footage or information.

But the news still spread.

Byron had been at home, but he knew everything that had happened at the party, and he had almost had a heart attack from the anger.

Tyler, terrified, immediately called the family doctor, ready for an emergency.

"Lily! My poor Lily!" Learning that Evelyn had once been pregnant with a Wellington family child, Byron was both shocked and heartbroken, tears streaming down his face. "How could she be so careless with something so important? Losing the baby is one thing, but damaging her body, how can we bear that?"

Tyler patted Byron's heaving back, equally tormented.

He vividly remembered the scene of Evelyn bleeding and begging him to keep it a secret, the memory still painful.

Tyler took a deep breath, about to speak, when Patrick interrupted, "Dad, your health is already poor; you can't get too emotional!"

"How can I not be emotional? Lily was pregnant with Edward's child, the Wellington Group's bloodline! A living child lost for no reason, how can I not be heartbroken, not feel guilty?"

Byron was in despair when Edward, looking utterly defeated, walked in.

"Grandpa..."

"Edward, where's Lily? Did Charlie take her home?" Byron asked urgently.

Edward nodded heavily, his throat too choked to speak.

"How could you be so careless, so foolish?"

Byron slammed the table in frustration, wishing he could slap Edward. "Lily was your wife! You didn't even know she was pregnant? Are you an idiot?"

"Dad, don't blame Edward. It's all in the past; saying this now won't help."

Patrick's expression was cold. "Besides, you knew Edward didn't love Evelyn, but you forced them together, making Edward avoid home. How could he have noticed?"

"Evelyn didn't say she was pregnant, and she hid the miscarriage. I bet she didn't even know she was pregnant back then."

"So it's not our fault, it's her own inexperience that caused this mess, making both families look bad."

Edward's heart ached, his eyes burning with anger, his muscles tensing under his wetsuit, veins throbbing.

He opened his pale lips to speak, but Byron, enraged, grabbed a coffee cup from the table and hurled it at Patrick!

"Ugh...!"

Patrick felt a sharp pain in his forehead, his vision darkening as he staggered back.

The coffee cup hit him squarely on the forehead, instantly raising a blood-red welt!

"Dad... you... You!"

"I'll hit you, you cold-hearted bastard!"

"Lily lost her child, and you don't care? You blame her instead? Are you even a man?"

Byron was furious, his face pale with anger. "I used to think you were just influenced by that witch Tiffany! But now I see you two are a perfect match! Neither of you is any good!"
