Chapter 276 Shameless

KS WORLD Hotel.

Evelyn was in the office, poring over the banquet planning proposal with even more seriousness than when she was planning Ada's wedding.

Last time, she was all in because the client was a big deal for business; this time, it was because Joyce was family.

"Miss, you're working too hard. You've pulled three all-nighters. Take a break," William said, handing her a glass of orange juice, worried that too much coffee would mess up her stomach.

"I can't rest now. The banquet hall is sorted, but Joyce's dress isn't done," Evelyn said, putting down the documents and rubbing her tired temples.

Evelyn was always buried in piles of paperwork and endless data, leading the hotel staff and figuring out how to boost performance. Feeling exhausted was just part of the job.

"Set up a visit to Betty's studio for me later," Evelyn instructed.

"Are you still working on the dress?" he asked.

"Yeah, if we don't work overtime, we won't finish in time."

William sighed, feeling sorry for her.

Just then, his phone buzzed.

Landon sent him a message with the guest list for Joyce's birthday party, adding: [Pass this to Evelyn.]

William opened the image, and the names of the three sons of the Alexander family jumped out at him.

Thinking about that night when Calvin threw money at him and Brenda with her tacky makeup insulted Jennifer, he felt a wave of anger surge inside, making his eyes red.

"William, is there something wrong with the list? You look weird," Evelyn noticed his expression and asked.

"Miss, there's something I need to tell you." William then recounted what happened when he took Jennifer back to school that night but left out Calvin's humiliation towards him.

He had wanted to handle the problem for Jennifer himself, but he realized that Brenda being Calvin's mistress made it more complicated.

He was just a secretary, too weak to protect Jennifer effectively.

Plus, Brenda and Jennifer were at the same school, and she had probably caused Jennifer trouble before. He couldn't always be there for Jennifer. So he had to ask Evelyn to step in.

Evelyn listened with a frown, her clear eyes darkening with anger.

"Brenda, just a mistress of Calvin, dares to mess with my sister." Evelyn's eyes widened in anger, and she slammed the table, "She really needs a reality check!"

William couldn't help but laugh.

"She thinks she can do whatever she wants because she has Calvin backing her?" Evelyn's eyes flashed coldly, "If she knew Jennifer had the entire Taylor family and KnightSpear Group behind her, she'd be on her knees apologizing. Let's see if Calvin dares to say a word for her then!"

"So, are you planning to deal with Brenda?" William asked cautiously.

"Is she even worth it?" Evelyn leisurely picked up the glass and took a sip of juice, "I'll deal with Calvin for what happened to Jennifer."

"But Miss, maybe Mr. Alexander doesn't know that the person who clashed with Brenda that night was Ms. Jennifer Taylor. If he knew in advance..."

Evelyn raised an eyebrow, "I don't care! Ignorance is no excuse!"

In the evening, Evelyn drove her Bugatti La Voiture Noire to Betty's studio without William following.

"Alexa." Betty personally came out to greet Evelyn, originally thinking that being the daughter of the Taylor family and having the identity of Sharon was already impressive. Unexpectedly, she was also Alexa!

In the fashion and jewelry world, Alexa and Sharon were top figures.

"Alright, I know I should apologize for hiding my identity from you. So how can I make it up to you?" Evelyn said with a commanding presence, wrapping her arm around Betty's slender waist.

"Just come to see me often, that's better than anything." Betty pouted, "Don't just come to me when you need something, okay?"

Evelyn gently tapped Betty's upturned nose with her finger and sighed, "I'm really too busy. Once I'm done with this, let's go abroad for a vacation and have some fun for a few days, okay? I'll cover all the expenses!"

"That's great!" Betty shouted.

With no time for coffee, Evelyn hurried to the studio with Betty. In the center of the studio, a mannequin was dressed in a nearly finished red and black chiffon gown. The high-end, stunning color scheme exuded an eye-catching elegance.

Under the spotlight, it looked luxurious and ethereal.

Betty's eyes lit up with admiration again. "So beautiful!"

"This dress has been hanging here for two weeks, and you still haven't had enough of it?" Evelyn walked up, her fingertips lightly brushing the silky fabric, her eyes sparkling.

"How could I ever get enough!" Betty's eyes were full of admiration and reverence for Evelyn's design. "The craftsmanship is intricate and the fabric is top-notch. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to auction it off!"

"This fabric is from my personal collection. For my family, only the best will do." With that, Evelyn rolled up her sleeves, ready to continue working on the birthday gown for Joyce.

Downstairs at Betty's studio, a black Maybach drove into the vintage-style courtyard.

Bart was the first to get out of the car, just about to open the door for Edward when he immediately noticed the globally limited Bugatti La Voiture Noire parked at the entrance. "Mr. Wellington! Mrs. Wellington is here!"

Edward's somber eyes instantly brightened, and his long legs quickly stepped out of the car.

Sure enough, it was Evelyn's car.

The "Toretto's Garage" sticker was still on the rear.

Edward's eyes softened, a gentle smile gracing his lips.

Suddenly, he remembered something and quickly turned to the dark reflective car window, checking his appearance and tightening the Windsor knot on his collar.

Seeing Edward so nervous, like he was about to meet his sweetheart, Bart was astonished.

Edward was usually so confident in his appearance, yet here he was, flustered over a woman.

"How do I look today?" Edward turned and asked calmly.

Bart closed his gaping mouth, then opened it again, giving a thumbs up. "Great!"

As they stepped through the door, they were stopped by an assistant. "Sorry, Miss Anderson is currently entertaining an important guest, with no time to see anyone else. Please leave."

Edward's stern face turned serious and he asked, "Is the important guest Ms. Taylor?"

The assistant asked, surprised, "How did you know?"

"Because I'm here to see her." Edward's starry eyes narrowed confidently. "I am Ms. Taylor's husband. Coming to see my wife shouldn't be refused outside, right?"

Bart was shocked.

The assistant frowned, sizing up Edward, and coldly said, "Mr. Wellington, do you think I can't recognize you? If I remember correctly, a few months ago, your fiancée Ms. Adams ordered a dress here, didn't she? And she announced your engagement at her birthday party, making quite a stir, with everyone knowing about it."

Hearing Nicole's name, Edward furrowed his brows tightly, feeling uncomfortable all over.

"Now, you're telling me that Ms. Taylor is your wife. Isn't that a bit too ridiculous?"

Edward's thin lips parted and he was about to explain when a sharp voice suddenly came from above.

"Edward! What did you just say? Say it again! Who is your wife?" Betty ran down to Edward, her eyes wide open.

"Evelyn is my wife." Edward paused, feeling that insisting on this would cause unnecessary misunderstandings, so he added softly, "Ex."

Hearing Edward say this, Betty was stunned, but she still couldn't believe it. "Don't spread rumors. If you try to ride on Evelyn's fame and ruin her reputation, we will sue you!"

"If you don't believe me, you can ask Evelyn and she will tell you herself." Edward remained calm and composed.

"It's impossible. I don't understand! Evelyn is neither blind, crippled, nor stupid, why would she be interested in you?" Betty jumped back a step, avoiding him like the plague.

Edward pressed his thin lips together and thought, 'Why did Evelyn like me? Even though I saved her life once, that was thirteen years ago. She, only eleven then, would think of repaying me with marriage when she grew up? It doesn't quite make sense.'

"Yes, Edward is my ex-husband."

Everyone, including Betty, looked up in unison towards the second floor where the voice came from.

Wearing a white silk shirt and black trousers, Evelyn leaned on the railing, looking down as if she was looking at Edward, or perhaps not seeing him at all.

"Forgive me, everyone has moments of confusion." Evelyn said.
