Chapter 91 Really Want to Protect Her

The next afternoon, Edward finally woke up.

He'd been having the same dream all night.

In the Liberland battle, he and fifty others were sent to infiltrate the enemy camp, take out the terrorists, and rescue ten hostages.

Those criminals were heavily armed, and the young boys, who started killing at five, still had an innocent look.

Edward wasn't originally part of the mission, but he volunteered.

"Young man, are you married?"

"No."

"No wife, no kids, why take this mission?"

Edward had smiled, carefree about life and death.

"I have no attachments, so I have no fear."

At that time, the two most important women in his life had left him. His heart was dead, so what did it matter if his body perished?

He feared loneliness more.

In the end, forty-nine died, and fewer than ten survived.

Edward had gunshot and knife wounds on his leg, shoulder, and waist. When he thought he was going to die, a girl in a white coat appeared and saved him.

She wore a thick mask and had short hair. Her white coat was torn and dirty, but her eyes shone brightly.

That woman was Elaine, the lifesaver he'd been searching for years.

After seeing Lily last night, he dreamed of Elaine again.

Different people, but he saw Elaine's shadow in Lily's eyes, which he couldn't explain.

Edward rubbed his temples, realizing his head no longer hurt.

Just then, May walked in with a medicine box, smiling as she saw Edward awake. "Mr. Wellington! You're awake? How are you feeling?"

"Not bad."

Edward propped himself up, noticing he was in pajamas, which startled him.

"What's with these clothes?"

"You came back soaked last night. I helped you change."

May chatted while tidying up. "You're thirty, you need a wife to take care of you."

Edward frowned, tugging at his hair.

He remembered his head hurting badly last night. He went to the study for medicine, then blanked out.

"May, did you change my clothes?"

"Who else?"

Edward covered his face in embarrassment. "May, I'm thirty, not thirteen. Can you stop undressing me?"

"You think I want to? I could be your mother!"

May switched to her acid-tongued mode. "You're heavy and exhausting. I'm sick of every part of your body!"

Edward stayed silent.

"Who drove your wife away? Now there's no one to take care of you. One day when I'm gone, you'll be a mess!"

"Hurry up, take off your clothes!"

"What now?" Edward backed away.

"To apply medicine to the wound on your back! You need it consistently. Hurry up!" May urged, holding the ointment Eyelyn had given her.

Edward's eyes narrowed. "How did you know I had a wound on my back?"

"Isn't it..." May hesitated, remembering Eyelyn's instructions. "I saw it when I changed your clothes last night. That big bruise scared me to death!"

Edward recalled holding Lily last night, her warmth and soft waist melting in his hands. He felt an urge to protect her.

His Adam's apple bobbed, eyes filled with desire, but soon his gaze turned cold again. He had pride. 'I apologized, but Lily slapped and humiliated me.'

Just then, the butler's voice came from outside.

"Mr. Wellington, Mr. Clark is here to see you. He's in the living room."

Edward's lips pressed together. "Send him to the study."

Eric's visit made Debra's heart race. She quickly changed into a new pink dress, touched up her makeup, sprayed perfume, and went to see her crush.

Opening the door, she saw Molly with her teddy bear, hopping around the hallway.

Wearing high heels, Debra walked up behind Molly and gave her a hard push.

Molly stumbled and fell, but still clutched her teddy bear tightly.

"My dear sister, didn't I tell you not to hop around? See, you fell."

Debra flicked her hair and walked past Molly, feeling great. If she were in a bad mood, she would've stepped on her.

After Debra left, Molly slowly got up. She knew Debra's personality well. Acting silly and clumsy kept her from getting hit and scolded as much.

"Molly!" May ran over to help her, eyes full of pity. "What happened? How did you fall?"

"Nothing," Molly bit her lip. "I was careless."

"I saw Debra walk by. Did she push you?" May asked angrily, her eyes red.

"No! I'm fine! I'm leaving!"

Hearing Debra's name, Molly hugged her teddy bear and ran away, enduring the pain.

May watched her pitiful back, gritting her teeth and sighing.

Eric wandered the back garden, then returned to the living room, bumping into a beaming Debra.

"Eric!"

Debra smiled brightly, her voice sweet. "Why are you here? Looking for Edward?"

"Of course," Eric replied casually.

He and Edward were like brothers, and he knew the Wellington family well. Tiffany wasn't a good person, so he was cold to Debra.

But Debra thought she had the looks and background to win Eric over. She subtly pulled down her neckline, pushing her chest forward and clinging to Eric's arm, pouting.

"Eric, come on, I'll take you to Edward."

Unexpectedly, Eric's eyes turned cold, his gaze icy.

"Let go. Your perfume is too strong; don't dirty my clothes."
